That’s interesting, I always plug my Wheel to front USB on my PS5 though.
I never tried to use the rear USB Port. So completely opposite to your approach.
I did try to connect my Wheelbase with USB C though and it happens too.
What I noticed is that if I unplug the Power Supply from the Wheelbase over Night and than re attach it when I want to play, the intensity and duration of this ”Grainy Feeling seems to be somewhat lower and shorter until it disappears completely.
Strange, but at least it always disappears after 5-8 Minutes and doesn’t reappear from there on.
I‘ll try to directly plug it to the rear USB Port the next time I fire up my PS5.
Something I haven’t tried at all.
Maybe it’s the complete opposite to what you have experienced but anyway I’m glad it disappears after a few minutes every time.
I had the wheel USB cable from the back of my PS5 to the front and it seems to fix it, and some people over at the Fanatec Forum done the same as me but the problem still occurs. Whether changing some of the wheel settings makes the sandy feel go away, but I don't really know why it does it but I fix it some how.

I‘ll try that tomorrow and report back 👍

@CBH hey Man, so today I did some more testing using every single USB port available on my PS5, even the usb c port. I used different Cable Types and lengths.
The result was always and every time exactly and surprisingly the same.
In start up of the Wheelbase everything feels super smooth. After exactly 5-7 minutes there slowly starts this grainy feel like a hard disk drive booting up.
Micro Vibrations in the Steering Wheel, sometimes a bit more and than less.
But everytime after about 5 minutes with this strange Vibrations it slowly starts to fade and after roughly 8 minutes it’s completely gone and doesn’t come back.
I have absolutely no idea what it might be, maybe some Magnets causing some Electrical Interference inside, but anyway thankfully it stops after a few minutes and I can live with it.
I‘m not going to sent Fanatec the Wheelbase for a replacement one.
I have 2 years Warranty so if this Behavior should get more pronounced during the next time or if the grainy feeling shouldn’t go away at all, I’ll contact them.
Until then I’m going to enjoy my DD Pro 😁

It's a strange one about the grainy sandy feel, and as I said I just put the USB cables in the front of the PS5 and the grainy sandy feel has gone for some reason. If the grainy sandy feel with a vibration comes back, I will return the base for another one.

Hmm, that is definitely strange but lucky for you it solved the issue.
I was hoping your advice would or could fix the issue for me too, but nope 😅
At least like I said it’s just a very short period while the Base is acting like it does and thankfully it disappears very fast and doesn’t return no matter how long I play.
But yes I can fully understand you saying that you would send your Base in for some Inspection or have it replaced by another one 👍

Perhaps changing a few wheel settings on my wheel at the time made it go away for good, but it's a strange one my friend. When people have replaced the base with another one from Fanatec, they got a different model number on their base and the issue was fix.
People say it might be the early model number on the base is the problem, and the late model bases fix the issue.

Have been using my new DD Pro on GT7 for less than a week.

The game only seems to recognize it as a CSL Elite... not a DD Pro. So none of the special buttons work and I'm not even sure the FFB is correct. Anyone else experience this? I am pretty sure it was ok for a day or so before, because I did flip through the TCS/Fuel/Diff controls directly at one time, I am sure, but now when I go to the 'options/controller' menu after I am in a race, it seem to think the wheel is a CSL Elite... any ideas?

@Fanatec...
Sounds like you have your wheel base in purple mode instead of blue.

The Power Button might be your best Friend to solve your problem 😉
Just make sure that the Wheelbade is set in the PS5 Mode ( blue light )

I'd like to say I'm colorblind... but I'm just an idiot that didn't read the complete manual... got it!

Hard enough to get used to a power button after using a G29 for a while, but I didn't realize it had the mode switch function built in... clear now.

Owners manuals are your friends guys. Don't be like my wife who rips everything out of the packaging, plugs it in, then wonders how it works .

I thoroughly read the GT DD Pro manual and scoured forums with info on the bundle as well as my McLaren and WRC rims and my Clubsport V3 pedals. It's exciting when you get things you like and I like to read up on them and make sure I know what to do and what not to do. Right now I am reading the manuals of the WRX that will be delivered soon. Yeah, I have an Outback and Crosstrek that are loaded with features so for sure I know how to drive a base manual WRX but, I'm excited, so why not read the manual to get even more excited and who knows, maybe I will learn something about the car I didn't know about?

The other day at work someone was struggling putting desks together, the cheap Chinese ones, and I stopped to help. Asked where the instructions were. In the box, he said. So I grabbed them and we knocked them off quickly.

Manuals exist for a reason. Give the people who write them some credit by using them!

Didn't expect this but the latest 1.110 update improved Fanatec wheel support, now more buttons can be used!
(I haven't tried it myself tho, really really need to sleep right now… lol)

Edit:
Tried my wheels on it, but the support is still very limited, very disappointed that the extra buttons are only allocated to fixed functionalities, no mapping is allowed. And rotary encoders are still unusable. I guess it's better than nothing, but this is merely returning to GT Sport's level of support. Oh, I also noticed that you can only use the analog to look left and right, but not back, this is just so dumb…

Just a question to you CSL DD users.
I noticed when I start up my Wheelbase that after a few Minutes my Base starts to produce this strange Micro Vibration/Grainy Feel in the Wheel.
Almost like a booting hard disk drive.
It happens every time after 4-5 Minutes.
During that period the Wheel feels very grainy. During that Period I continue to drive as it doesn’t distract me too much and after 5 more Minutes it slowly disappears and everything feels super smooth and it doesn’t come back for the rest of my playing Session no matter how long I play.
Does anyone else notice this strange behavior???
Maybe @super_gt knows what that might be???
Anyway the CSL Dd is awesome and anyone who thinks about upgrading and if it’s worth to upgrade from a non DD Wheelbase, YES, do it.
I drive for almost 25years with Steering Wheels in Video Games but this DD Technology is a whole new Step in my Experience.
I highly recommend to switch to a Direct Drive Wheelbase.
It’s a complete Game Changer, one you definitely are never going to neglect after you‘ve you‘ve once discovered it 😁
I have the same on PS4 Pro, also plugged in from the front. Also the wheel is never centered, always wants to go a bit right or left of center and is oscillating around.

Well, it says:
Allocated features to extra buttons that become available when attaching replacement wheels such as the Fanatec Club Sport Steering Wheel Formula V2 on the Fanatec GT DD Pro*
It speaks of ”wheels such as” so was curious if some options become available.

Does the 1.11 update introduce any new options for the Mclaren V2 wheel on the GT DD base?
while the the mclaren rim works on the dd pro, it's technically an xbox licensed product so it's unlikely ever to have full support in a ps exclusive game.

I get by fine with how it is currently but it would be great to have expanded mapping like you can in f12021. I imagine through superGT's endorsement it's the rim of choice for many.

Just a sort of 'first impressions' review, as a G29 user who upgraded to the DD Pro. It is certainly night and day compared to the G29... and I have to say I was never unhappy with the Logitech wheel- you simply can't beat it in bang-for-the-buck. And with the AXC Sim TrueBrake, the braking control was a little better than the stock one, for not a lot more money.

That said, I was convinced that I would not only get more fun out of a better wheel and pedal set, but that I could eventually race better and maybe be a little quicker in spots, with more feedback and control. When I got a taste of how much better the physics model was in GT7, I knew I had to upgrade.

I bought the DD Pro GT7 bundle wheel/pedals and added the Load Cell pedal. I skipped the 8 N-m power pack for now. I left the original brake pedal on as a clutch, though I've never used one in the game, so it's superfluous. I wish they just offered a package with the LC to avoid the wasted cost, etc.

Pluses:
  • Good build quality and it's nice to have a great, smooth, quiet, solid wheel and pedals both. Sturdy brake plate and good quality stiff pedals, and the compact wheel base seems really well made.
  • The elimination of the notchiness of the (gear-driven?) G29, it's almost too smooth!
  • More feedback info is available for sure... I've not driven back to back, once I tore the G29 down it was down, but there must be lots more info provided through the DD Pro
  • It did ship a little before their promise date, that was nice (but...)
  • The load cell offers really nice brake control, and is much more realistic in 'feel' esp when combined with the improved GT7 model. Modulation is more natural, even than the TrueBrake (to be fair, AXC Sim was very open about that reality compared to the load cell).

Minuses (not strictly compared to the G29 but overall):
  • Rubber grip is not as nice as the leather one on the G29, which I was always really happy with. Sweaty hands are again a problem and I don't want to wear gloves.
  • High frequency feedback seems muted in the DD, maybe this could be overcome with the 8 N-m power pack? I could play with damping settings, perhaps, but haven't had a chance to really explore those. I do think it makes sense that the single motor and lower powered DD unit would fall a little short here.
  • Power cord was a little short, had to use the Logitech one to reach my outlet
  • Didn't come with screws for hard mounting... come on, $1000 in and I still need to buy $3 worth of screws? My $400 OW seat came with hardware to mount three different wheels, as an example. (though not quite exactly what I needed for this, as it turns out)
  • Wish the D-pad on the wheel was really a D-pad and not a little joystick, harder to use and also seems less robust.
  • Thought the special (TCS/BB/FuelMap) controls were dials, but they are also little joysticks... they seem kind of cheap in feel and when clicked it's not a really high quality tactile response.
  • Maybe I'm just used to where the buttons on the Logitech wheel were, but the placement of some of them on the Fanatec seems less than ideal, and not as easily accessed in the heat of the battle.
  • As a side note: Fanatec didn't send me the FedEx tracking info when it shipped, they shipped it ground (again... kind of cheap on a pre-order...) and required a signature... so it was a bit of a hassle to get it received. Not the best, given the premium nature of the company overall.
Overall though probably a really good option if a G29 isn't 'good enough' for you. I don't regret it and am looking forward to racing with it more, to get more familiar with it. Anyone on the fence should feel ok with the idea of upgrading it, if you are somewhat serious about the game and want the most immersive experience.

Now, as to whether I can put that all to use and be faster and race better... TBD. But I'm looking forward to it.

Good news, everyone! For those who were aware, finally got my pedals back through Fanatec's RMA process. Everything works. It is good to push against them to get Fanatec to process and give you what you need to ship it back to them.

While frustrating, i am satisfied to now finally have a fully working set of the pedals and the wheel. It is definitely a step above the G29 i had (which was wearing out from heavy use). The smoothness in the DD Pro is a huge delight over the occasionally jerkiness from the gearing of the G29, and the DD Pro allows for finer adjustments that the deadzone in the G29 just simply doesn't allow for. I will warn you though, the torque on the DD Pro can be aggressive, and prolonged usage did have me tuning it down some to save my wrists (it aggravates an old injury), so be mindful of it.

Yeah, when you set torque to 5 or more in game it feels amazing but it’s bloody hard work! One spirited lap of the Nordschliefe and it’s like a workout.

Greetings! Help please! Just got my GT DD Pro Base-only in the mail, I'm using it with my existing pedals (CSL Elite via telephone-style jack) and steering wheel (which is a Clubsport universal hub+rim). I set it up on PC and all is well, updated the firmware using Fanatec Control Panel and played a bit of PC assetto corsa. All good.

Here's the problem, though - it's not at all detected on the PS5 in GT7! I tried both the blue mode and the purple mode on the base, but the game simply doesn't see the wheel at all. Any ideas?

EDIT: answering my own question - finally discovered I have to press the funky switch in which is the "Playstation" button to wake up the controller. All good now!
