Cheers fella.

Turned in game up to 10/10 on our t300 the other day, after running it around 5/5 and I was blown away how much better it felt to me. Unfortunately the trusty old t300 couldn't keep it up for longer than three or four minutes and the ffb just faded away to hell.
Supposedly anything over 5 for FFB max torque results in clipping, I don't go any higher than 6. Do you play ACC as well? The FFB and detail in that is so much better than GT7.
Forgot to ask, what did you end up ordering?

Cool. I'll try your settings first and take it from there. Never played ACC but planning on giving it a spin next time it's on sale in the playstation store, heard it had nice ffb.

I went for the entry level kit + the 8nm booster and I needed a better folding stand so also ordered a next level 2.0 thingy

Good choice with the boost kit, makes a big difference.

You can go higher than 5-torque IG. Hell, I would often run up to 7 in game to get the feeling I wanted out of road cars.

I still do it with my DD1 in road cars just to get the detail I want despite maxing out my wheel base torque values

Thankee sai.

Thankee sai.

Nice! Another DT fan 😎

Another word on the wheel. Yes, it is cheap feeling. But it serves its purpose very well in Gran Turismo (if that’s your game) with the hard coded mappable axis’s. And they work well in other games too. But its light weight and smaller diameter also aids in making the FFB detail more nuanced. There was a small, noticeable drop off in detail when I would use my McLaren GT3 rim.

I don’t think I would even like using one of my heavier podium wheels with the DD Pro. But this is only applicable if you like running heavier settings

These are mine (8Nm).

SEN AUTO
FFB 100
PEAK
NDP 5
NFR 10
NIN OFF
INT OFF
FEI 100
FOR 110
SPR OFF
DPR OFF

In game 5 & 1.

Wheel arrived today and spent a couple hours with it.

Super impressed.

First hour I stayed with the 5nm power supply and it felt really good - a noticeable upgrade from our t300 but nothing major if I'm honest.

Then we plugged in the 8nm booster and yeah, that's what you pay the money for - a big step up.

As an aside, I've been playing with ps5 controller for the last few days and I've spent a good amount of time setting a qualifying lap in daily race B (Atlanta). I was at the point where I couldn't find time anywhere...

...I plugged the fanatec in and within 3 laps I knocked a second off my time. Another few laps and there goes another half second.

Fyi: I am using the next level racing wheel stand 2.0 with dd pro 8nm + load cell, works fantastic. Best wheel stand out there (almost cockpit feeling if you have the right chair)

I also got the fanatec shifter mounted at it, lots of fun

Heya.
So i also recieved the 8nm bundle and for 8hrs it was amazing. Then i read a few things about driving stick with gt7 and decided the clutch maybe wasn’t so necessary. Unfortunately, removing it and going with lode//theottle..fried the throttle. So as i sit here waiting for the rma i keep wondering about the shifter. To the point:

-you can’t use it in gt sport races, correct?
-can you make mistakes and grind gears?
-can you depress the clutch and coast freely. If so, can you release the clutch and pop back into gear?

I grew up learning to drive stick and do really miss it from time to time but if im going to drop another $400 on the shifter, and if it were awesome, potentially another $600 on the sweet pedals eventually, i want it to be realistic. If things are still kinda gimmicky, i’m content using paddles and the csl’s…whenever they arrive.

Thanks!

Ps: is there any reason anyone knows why you shouldn’t drive barefoot with fanatec(csl’s)

Yes to all 3. Despite how few will actually use it, PD’s clutch implementation is surprisingly good. These days, I spend much of my time just hot-lapping about. Manuals only!!

One tip with the clutch, is go into the pedal calibration section and set your “max travel” to about 70%. That way you can ‘nip’ the clutch to get it in and out of gears like IRL.

Why can't you use the manual shifter in GT Sport races?

Is it a PD or Fanatec issue, and do you know if there are plans to address the issue? (I know I'm asking a lot).
I highly doubt it. IIRC it was the same in GT Sport. It's not Fanatec related as it's the fact you have an clutch and shifter and not if it's Fanatec, Logitech or Thrustmaster.

I haven't really followed it much because I don't have one, so I don't really know for sure, but I think this is due to the way the auto-clutch and gear ***** work especially in road cars, where with the default gear box the shifts are fairly slow.

It worked in GT7sport mode for the first week or so. Then they quickly nerfed it.

Whatever. Buying an H-pattern was one of the best investments I made for this game. It’s such a joy to drive each car authentically. Including the older GT300-500 cars that you still have to heel-toe on the way down despite them having a stick-sequential.

I even jumped on one of my alt accounts for yesterday’s GR.2 FIA race at Fuji just so I could heel-toe the 2008 NSX GT/500 for 45 minutes 😎

Nice idea indeed. Whats your min travel then? 10-20%? If you leave that to 0%, you could basically just tip the clutch 1% and change gear.

I have never done any heel-toe shifting, but I am still enjoying driving with shifter a lot. I wouldn’t say shifter in GT7 is just a gimmick, definitely more than that (but I have never played iRacing or ACC)

I'm going to get a new wheel for my GT DD, thinking either the McLaren GT3 V2 (with Qr1) or the Formula V2.5. Does anyone have any opinions on which one is better or can suggest an alternative?
I've got pretty big hands and I've seen people saying the McLaren is better for larger hands.
Also are all of the buttons usable in GT7?
Thanks

Formula V2.5 has much better materials than the McLaren, and the price of McLaren with QR1 is quite close to Formula V2.5.
I have both steering wheels and prefer the Formula V2.5 because of the quality, and because of the smaller size the FFB feels stronger.

I've got the McLaren with QR1, really comfortable to use but I didn't like the paddles so replaced them with ones from Sim Makerz. The rotary encoders don't work in GT7 but the toggle switches work the MFD and I use the analogue paddles to look left/right.

I'm happy with the stock paddles 🙂
But yeah, the McLaren wheel does have a severe lack of R2/L2 buttons. So you might run short trying to find buttons for everything.

The rotary encoder is indeed not working great. If fuel usage is enabled in a race then it does work for the fuel, however in the wrong direction. When you're in a race/event without fuel then you can change TCS or brake bias only towards the right with it, not to the left.

I don't know anything about the Formula wheel. When I was looking into buying the McLaren wheel I didn't realize that the Formula had the metal QR included so I thought it was much more expensive in total

I think I have my min set to 12.5%. But that was based on my old pedals which aren’t nearly as stiff as my new set.

As you’ve probably discovered, you don’t necessarily ‘need’ to heel-toe in GT7. The auto-blip feature is built into the game, although it does help to do so if you’re downshifting into a gear that’s a little too low for your current speed. Regardless, it’s extremely satisfying to nail heel-toe downshifts and hear that audible self initiated extra blip of the throttle.

I’ve driven stick all my life, but never learned to heel-toe till last year. I just watched Barry from the Sim Racing Garage YouTube.com channel and imitated what he did. Took me a few days to pick it up. You’re lap times will suffer a bit (if you care about that stuff), but the extra layer of immersion is more than worth it 👍🏼

The spring in the CSL throttle pedal has always felt too weak for me, and swapping it with the one from the clutch didn't make a big enough difference, so I've fitted one of the R/C damper kits. So much better and really recommend it, also much cheaper than the mod kit from Race Sim Engineering. Best £16 I've spent.

Do you have an exact link for it? I only see the throttle kit for 54,95€ on their page? I am ok with the throttle, but if I can increase the resistant for some small money I would also prefer it

Thanks for the input guys, I've got about a week to decide.
Sounds like there are quite a few rotary switches that don't work with GT7 on the formula 2.5 and I will mostly be playing GT7 in VR.
If they made a carbon version of the Mclaren wheel it would be an easy choice.
