Quite the convincing victory for Portugal. They are almost guaranteed to go through with a goal difference like that.

Well, gladly to me Portugal decided to contradict my post in this thread after last week's game!

However, knowing the portuguese people (since I'm one of them), it's now time to stop and realize that this was one of those games that happened occasionally, every decade or so...

I'm with Arvore's appreciation at half-time. We did move better than we did against Côte d'Ivoire, but still below what should be expected for a team as Portugal. The second half started well, little bit faster, and Simão's goal led to 'open-up' North Korea's defense entirely. They simply crumbled and, almost, shot-after-shot the count of goals went up (I think we managed to score 6 in 8 shots made at the goal).

In resume, playing enough today and having the luck of the match 2nd half run favourably in every possible aspect (and also merit in serching for that fortune) we pretty much guarantee the presence in the next stage along with Brazil (Côte d'Ivoire has -2 goals / Portugal +7 - so if we loose against Brazil by 1-0, they'll have to beat NK by 8-0. If we loose 2-0, they'll have to win 7-0, and so on...). It's possible but, unlikely.

Nevertheless, today's a good day. 7-0 is our biggest win ever in a big competition and one of the greatest wins of all times in the finals of a WC (the record is 10-1 from Hungary to El Salvador I belive, in 1982)

Do you think Ivory Coast will make 8 or 9 goals?! :sly:👍

EDIT: Stop beeing so negative please... even when we win 7-0 some people are like this... i guess its the Portuguese blood... always aiming low and not believing in our selfs!

I don't think its a case of his negativity, rather a case of rationality. It was clearly a dominant victory, but it was against north Korea and they simply fell apart and invited a 7-0 drubbing. It's clearly a good boost for team moral, supporter moral and some pretty good teamwork was showcased there. Portugal fans have every right to be optimistic from that performance but need to remember that it doesn't mean they are going to go on to win the tournament. The match against Brazil (who are in good form too) should be a better indication of how far Portugal will go, rather than the scoreline against NoKo.

As for Ivory coast slotting 7 or so goals past Noko? I can't see it. Portugal, are as good as through in my eyes. Noko (now they are out) are likely to dig their heels in to prevent any further embarrassment against Ivory coast, it will most likely be a case of defend defend defend, this was not what they started out doing against Portugal. With this in mind, it would take a rather large scoreline in favour of Brazil, and a large scoreline in favour of ivory coast to knock Portugal out.

With Italy, Germany, Spain, England & France either imploding or not playing well, would now be the time to point out that no European team has won the World Cup when it has been held outside of Europe?

I know how to read Footbal thanks... but if the supporter moral is higher doesnt it translate into a good boost for the team moral and therefore we can see some good team work?! Thats my point of view! If every single Portuguese think like that we wont win a single game! I know it was the NK, that is a week team, thanks:odd:! and i actually think we wont win the WOLD CUP but by supporting my country team i want to see till where are we going, and dream of a CUP final! I rest my case!

Watching the BBC website commentary and someone texted in to say that it looked like this was going to be another game ruined by whistle happy referees. The next update has someone being sent off. Brilliant timing!

I just popped out at half time earlier, did I miss much?

:lol::lol::lol:

Well played Portugal, a dominant second half and a perfect example of good team work and creative imagination.

I'm sorry, but if you weren't so negative about Ronaldo, you would have seen that he made a good contribution to the team in the attacks, good passes and giving a good depth to our game, and facts are that he "gave" 1 goal and scored another!

First my comments were about his exhibition in the first half,in the second half the match opened and allowed him ,as well as the team to do a good second half against a completely shattered N.K,THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE WAS AT HIS BEST LEVEL,some misfortune also in some strikes absolutely compensated by that hilarious-even he laughed- goal.
And he clearly has to change his attitude towards referees to avoid sour situations...

EDIT: Stop being so negative please... even when we win 7-0 some people are like this... i guess its the Portuguese blood... always aiming low and not believing in ourselves!

Don't tell others what to think or do:grumpy:
You have your opinion you express it freely, allow other to do the same thing please.
And I wouldn't call it negativeness, more like realism and don't be blinded with patriotism-which you censored others to do in the Football vs Football thread-and think that by a good win against a poorly skilled and psychologically fragile(only they know what waits them back in their country:scared: )-gives us any chance of winning the tournament.
Let's wait for the match against Brazil and if we win by 3-0 I'll give it to You and echo your choir, but until that I will be conservative:sly:
BTW I know You're are a member here longer than me and with much more activity which leads me to believe that someone should, already, have mentioned you the spell checker!!! I write English probably worst than You but I bother to use it:tup:

EDIT:See how much better your quoted posts look now;)

High moral is fine so long as it doesn't translate into complacency, having a bit of rationality doesn't mean that you need to lack confidence in you're team. Bullie wasn't playing down Portugal's performance, he was just putting his sensible hat on and saying 'yeh that was a good performance, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves here'. In my opinion, that is a sensible attitude to take. Take the positives, the teams playing well, the strikers are on form, team moral is high, but there is still some really tough games to come, let's not underestimate our opponents, lets not over estimate ourselves, and with a bit of confidence, Portugal should be able to challenge the best.

If things were that straight-forward as you say, explain me how did we lose the Euro2004 final against Greece...

One thing is to know how to read football. I don't doubt your ability. Other is to overstate a performance based solely on the results. Looking at the numbers we have crushed NK. Analysing the match itself, we played sufficient to win and were lucky enough to be on one of those days were everthing works accordingly to plan.

I was just wondering if Chile gets the first place in this group and then the first one of the group G as to face the spanish team....

I agree with the moral boost comments, Ronaldo alone is pure danger when he's feeling confident. :nervous:

The Chile - Switzerland match has turned into a very dirty game, and the Ref can be primarily blamed for that, showing cards like confetti usually has the effect of heightening tensions.

Where did you see me writing that he was at his best level?! I pointed out that after all, he did a good team work that contributed to the win in some way other than his individual inability (at this moment)!

I say 2-2 in the game against Brazil!

Im a spontaneous guy. I dont really need Google translator to help me write. Im not English, so errors may eccur once in a while! Realism?! ok...

If the Mod Squad;) were thinking like you, maybe half of the GTPlanet community wouldnt probably be here at this time!

I do speak English waaaay better than i write:sly:!

Im not getting ahead of anyone or any team! I simply want to believe in my team having a bit more confidence than you!

Explain how we got there in the 1st place! Only by the team work performance or mostly by the mass supporter motivation the country has ever seen?! (and probably wont see something like that again...)

I didnt said otherwise.

Exactly! What would youre team do (or any other in the globe) without your TORCIDA (fans)?! ;)

It's a shame that North Korea are now out. I was hoping they would go far enough to face South Korea! But that was an incredible performance from Portugal. God knows what their manager said to them during half-time!

It's not really about my confidence in Portugal, I was backing Bullie after you told him he was being negative, when he wasn't. I was also backing, why I thought he was taking a sensible viewpoint. I'm not by any means, telling you not to support, or have confidence in you're team. I'm just reminding you, that you shouldn't to tell others how they should be supporting their country.

It is not about spontaneity it's about laziness!I'm not an English native, either, but this is an English language based site so...it's a question of respect for other members hitting the spell checker button in the toolbar. But hey it's Your call if You deliberately choose not to use it👎

I think it is legitimate to conclude from Your post that You expect the players in the W.C to be lurking GTPlanet looking for boosting their confidence:confused::sly:;)

NK played a great first half but once they got scored on they fell apart.

Hopefully my fantasy team gets a huge boost now. Thanks Ronaldo... If only I had Tiago too.

90% of the times i dont, because i dont need too.

I respect most people in the forum. Besides the errors, and surely most "non native English" member in this forum do respect others.

Legit?! Yes you can say so... in your own way... sure!

Support, should come from every and each one of us. They probably wish for every single fan for their support. If Brazil or anyother team had only 1000 fans, with the GTPlanet members they would be 1006 or 1007. Yes the numbers make all the difference. Ill make this more simple for you to understand: 1+1 = 2, 2+2= 4, 4+4= 8, and so on. Get it now?!

Answering with a question?...

For a number of reasons, some own merit, some enforced due to a lousy 1st game, some by luck. I'll tell you this: the most important of them wasn't the exaggerated fuzz around the team which, ultimately contributed for us to lose the final.

Support, belief an faith in your team is a good positive thing. Over-exaggerated hysterical behaviour isn't. We, portuguese, have the tendency to frequently and fastly move from depression to this and back again.

I support this post. And I'm also not a native English speaker, though it is a second language for me.

So youre depressed now?!

Its not over exaggerated, or hysterical, its about supporting our team when ever we win or loose ! I support my team a game after another. I am supporting my team since the 1st game with Ivory Coast, when everybody around was saying "We shouldnt be in the championship and we will make a fool out of ourselves!"(judging by the qualifies)! Is it the right thing to do only support your country in the happy hours?!

We started changing post because of this reaction of yours to my post analysing today's game, where I basically said that the final result was better than the overall quality of the exhibition, and agreeing with Arvore's reading of how the 1st half went through.

You accused me of being "negative" towards the team and criticize the fact I'm not "thrilled" with the result, although I started my post by referring that gladly Portugal decided to contradict my post from last week. Others, who had understand my point, tried to explain the difference between negative and realist/cautious.

I'm sorry if you are, like I characterized portuguese people, either in euphoric state or depress by football results. I'm not.

So answering your concern about my state of mind I'm happy with today's win but I do not have the illusion to find this as a turning point in our further performance. It might be (I hope) but, at the moment it is not likely. Remember the qualification for the World Cup?...

Finally, your last sentence, seemed to indicate that those who assume your attitude are the ones who support the team whenever they loose or win, while others do, apparently something else... I think you're too fast in judging other people and that, usually, results in bad-judgement.

Respect is something to be spotted in many ways...one of them is ,in my POV hitting the spell checker button in the toolbar.Anyway this is way off topic, and I'm not a Mod.or aspire to be one...it was just a friendly tip(at least I thought I was clear by the use of the blink( ;) )Smiley, it's just the way You type in a Internet Forum is like the way you dress,or shave,in real life.Get it?

No don't get it:rolleyes:
Let me see if I can follow your biased syllogism?:irked:

The more supporters one team has blinding exalting their teams performance enhances the chances of that team having good results:crazy:

Well if that was true Benfica had probably won the last 10 Portuguese League titles,no?:P:odd:

I didn't see the England vs USA opener, and I apologize to all the English members in here for reminding them of the utter keeper horror, but I just have to post the Green FAIL once again:

Yeah Bram that's kinda cruel, but still funny :D. Well for some of us.

And I'm enjoying Horde's avatar, for as long as it lasts ;).

Now let's see how Spain will deal with Honduras. I'm betting in a 3-0. ;)
