I hate my car right now in the rain. I think it is less hate for the car and more hate for the way PD programmed rain driving. On every race track in the world, there is a rain line once surface water has passed a certain point. GT6 programming should gradually move grip from the primary race line to the wet line as surface water gathers. The driving line indicator should change too.

It feels to me that all PD did was add a multiplier to reduce grip. So cars that understeer like crazy already, just get worse. I have been a bit of a fan boy for the GT series, but this game could have been so much better.

2nd phase tuning/testing, my Zero Sports STi managed low 1:05s at Tsukuba, targeting to get close to 1:03s of the original replica lap time.

The Evo did almost flat 1:04s at Stowe, with real life 60/40 weight :P based on Kamiya Wangan Midnight Evo, 70% same tune.

I think I may stick to low grip tire this time, so much fun finding the grip limit.

I can understand your view point and agree with you. PD could have made the wet surface dynamics a lot better. They like to challenge us with these things I think.

Dang, Was hoping to get a full board of 10's for enthusiasm and carnage on the race track. I better take the Evo back to the drawing board then.
Mate you get a 10/10 for enthusiasm no doubt at all. She looks a handful but I'm sure you'll tame her evil ways

If you two are that fast on the wet, I am going to finish dead last:lol::lol::lol: need to figure this one out as I am a few seconds off on Silverstone:irked:
You will figure it out, you always do.
I have a sneaking suspicion on what your problem is, this a different challenge than most lots of choices that can make or break you and you have to get them right twice

Here are my two tunes for this challenge

Nice tunes, I never did like the type 2 STi on the wet couldn't get it to turn worth a hoot. I'm looking forward to driving yours see how you got working.

@Motor City Hami I agree on the wet track dynamics it just feels like harder tires not a change on road grip.
I do think that PD is a bit understaffed for how Kaz wants things to work in the game so they take functional short cuts to get the games rolled out

Pro spec is proving to be a fun one. Running a combined 2.15.xxx right now finally got the curbing issue sorted out. Didn't help my time any by made it more user friendly on the tarmac little less so on the dirt...gotta fix that part lol

well my street racers evo is done and I just cannot get any feel through race tires so Im tuning it for dirt I guess. I really do hate racing tires. For me they suck all the fun out of this racing sim and turn it into a casual game. Oh well we will see how it goes and ill have mine up in the morning.

With the last FITT Challenge, I was the only person to pick a Mini for the Hot Hatch and I was pleasantly surprised by the feedback given on that. I dare to be different and hopefully this tune pays off again. If it doesn't, well.. ill live and learn. Its all a bit of fun at the end of the day.

I am happy enough with the Subaru, more so than I was with the Evo but I couldn't really get a feel for the Evo as easily as I could the Subaru. Those two cars are different animals completely!!

I agree on your wet track/grip multiplier reduction theory. Although I have been pleasantly surprised by the tyre modelling! ;)

Wet simulation works as it should, in fact PD gives a bit too much grip on certain tires in the wet when water is not 100%. The grip limit for CS tire should be somewhere in the middle between CM and CS when wet, still surprised by how much I can push the car at Tsukuba and Stowe  I once drove a WRX owned by a a fellow Uni student, '94 white STi with 300+AWHP - it was bad enough with brass button twin plate clutch and half worn tire ( it was the worst in traffic and the loud exhaust did help ease the pain a little - can tell a Rex is coming from afar ), and it was raining hard and the water was literally like a stream, the Sti got sticky RE Potenza for the dry, not good for the wet , can't even take 90 degree turn above 40kmh, loses traction like a V8 Falcon Ute in the wet, it was like a rain drift on a big roundabout, ran low boost for the whole trip :D
Somehow I think 100% water means a little flood - maybe an 1/2 inch high, just like back in the day  Sports tires / semi slick should be undriveable at 100% water/ water stream, only a fool will do so in real life :P

I just turned green with envy :ill:
Track days are great, you get to put your foot down in a powerful car (albeit supervised :( ) The amazing thing about the Subaru in real life was how good the brakes were and how little braking pressure was needed when entering a corner, nothing like a normal FWD road car at all! I preferred the purr of the Ferrari 360 engine though. That car was immense! felt like I was in a go kart as I was so low to the ground. You never get enough laps though. I had 6 laps in each vehicle and only felt I was getting good by the 5th lap. I look forward to the day I win the lottery and I can buy myself a Ferrari 458.

I've had the pleasure of driving 2 Formula Fords at Sandown & that was without a doubt the best day of my life.
First 6 laps in a Listech that had horrible handling. Understeer into a corner followed by Oversteer out.
The next 6 laps were in a Van Diemen RF85, the first racer owned by Craig Lowndes. What a complete contrast. Beautifully setup & a strong engine.
I had to drive in my socks as the footwell was to small for my shoes.

I respectfully disagree. I have raced more than 15 times in the rain in SCCA. Many times being caught on the grid on slicks and the rain cloud reached the track before the weather radar indicated. In real life I was able to disconnect the rear sway bar, soften the rear damping and run the rain line pretty effectively. None of this is simulated in GT6 (or GT5).

What I meant was the tire physics in the wet, and the certain tires were comfort tires :) Track driving with slick is different than on the street where water do not get dispersed quickly in heavy torrential rain. The example I gave was heavy rain that it was like a little flash flood , I have driven WRX with Azenis in the rain, it was scary to drive faster than usual. I do agree that wet driving line is badly needed in GT6, I also thought GT5 has wet driving line, or was it not ?

I really need to know what it means to have 100% water in GT6, is it like standing water IRL ?

My thinking, wet driving line, then a bit less grip from the comfort tires in the rain, but more when on the wet line, slippery on the outside. Drying track portion has different grip, sports tire should have less grip in the wet and racing hard/medium/soft ( slick ) should not be easily driven in the wet :)

So far, I have been driving with constant / static water level. I am thinking of using variable water level, to see if there's any difference, heavy rain at 100%, 100% water then gradually drying ...

40% at Tsukuba and 100% at Stowe, they both felt like the track surface has standing water all over.

Our Audi R8 and Murcielago are the same way but for different reasons lol. The tires are so wide (315's on the murc !) that they just bounce over the water. Both 4WD cars are a nightmare in the rain compared to the Ferraris and even the Gallardo wich has 285's i think.

The 360 is a lot of fun. the 430 is everything the 360 is just better and then multiplied lol. The 458 is much faster but not more fun. It's so responsive and sensitive to input that it's not fun to drive on the road. just hitting bumps in the road make you speed up and slow down because your foot moves on the throttle. the best of both worlds is the 599. i'm 6'1" and fit with room to spare, it has a trunk, a ferrari V12 that screams at 9K rpm, and more than more than enough HP. Dont get me wrong, they are all fantastic but if it were my money it would be a 599. I haven't driven the F12 yet though... :)

Ya let the cat outta the bag lol, can't put that one back. :P

More tread=more water dispersal=more heat=more grip was my theory?
Pretty much correct more tread= more water removal

Most designers use images of fighter jets, hammer head sharks and swedish furniture to bring out their artistic side. I decided that I should use something a little more carnal. A visit to a race track was my preparation.

Your a beast Hami taking down a vette dodging a couple three crashes and taking the win.

I was surprised when I could lap faster with 40% water compared to dry on Tsukuba with CS, but I was able to go decently faster on wet with sports on.

I found the SM tyres faster in the wet than the SH tyres on one tune and in my other tune, the CS tyres were faster in the wet than the SH tyres.. It never made much sense to me why it was different. I think this discussion has started to clear up some of that confusion.
