Formula 1 Gran Premio de España Santander 2012

Massa just keeps getting worse, the best he has been since his accident was 2010, its just been downhill from there, massively moreso this year. I can't see him seeing out the season at this rate, he's cruising around at the back while Fernando is up on the podium joint leading the championship.

Nice to see Williams back on the pace, but Bruno was nowhere this weekend.

Congrats to Maldonado, great race from him! Hopefully there'll be more wins for him or another driver from either Williams or Sauber, would be nice to see them take the championship this year. No Vettel please!

I called it. Fifth race winner from fifth team in five races...

Just to remind everyone what I posted one race ago...

Oh, drives of the day:

1. Lewis Hamilton: Absolutely heroic third stint
1. Pastor Maldonado: Perfect, perfect race.
1. Kamui Kobayashi: Kamikazeeee! Banzaiii! Yatta!!!

That race was also some intense 🤬

Hamilton rescues a few points, which is great.

Maldonado drives an incredible race, acheiving many a milestone which is really good to see :)

Best of all Raikkonen gets awarded another trophy and shows not one hint of a smile. Love it :P

Driver of the race: Sebastian Vettel.

:embarrassed:

Which race were you watching?

Best Drivers:
Maldonado.

BRILLIANT job defending from maybe the best driver on the grid on your 1st win, dealing with the pressure, better than Perez did a few weeks back when he went wide in a similar situation.

Alonso.

Fighing for the win when his teammate, the 2008 runner up, is at the back of the midfeild. He must be working wonders in that car.

Hamilton.

Just an awesome drive. I mean, starting from the back and still manages to beat his teammate who had no issues in the way of incidents. And, the overtakes on the Torro Rosso's...:drool::drool:

Worst Drivers:
Button: Finishes lower than his teammate despite qualifying over half a grid ahead. Never showed signs of doing anything decent all race.

Schumacher: Stupid move was stupid, and then had the cheek to blame Senna for it.

Almost no post-race coverage on Speed.

They skipped the press conference, because of the soccer match. Why is soccer even on speed? It's a motersports channel. Such a big moment for Williams and Maldanaldo and speed skips post coverage.

Nice to see BBC have an interview with Frank Williams. Really sums up how important this race was for them.

I guess Fox Soccer takes precedence over everything when they are showing every game today...

I prefer BBC coverage to sky for many reasons (not inc. Lee McKenzie), I watch the F1 there where possible :).

Was anyone able to keep track of how many pit-stop problems there were during that race??? :ouch:

I like Senna, but what the ****? I'm not saying it was his fault (I need to watch more footage before forming an opinion.), but he's in way too many incidents.

Anyway, a very, very mature drive by Maldonado. Congratulations.

Schumacher: Stupid move was stupid, and then had the cheek to blame Senna for it.

Was just a racing incident. A miscommunication between both of them and not all Schumacher's mistake. He may went a little overboard by calling Senna an 'idiot' but I can understand his frustration. This is his what, third DNF of the season?

That was an amazing race. Great work from Williams and Maldonado to get back in front of Alonso, and then stay there. And good to see Williams back in business. The pace of the Lotus at the end surprised me, they're definitely in for a win this year if they sort out strategy.

As I said in another thread during November last year:-
Quite frankly, I believe these harsh criticisms towards Maldonado are unjustified. Indeed, he made errors. Quite a few in fact, I'll be honest. Overall however, his pace was decent. Seven times during the season, he out qualified Barrichello, on merit. For a rookie, that isn't at all disappointing. Even when beaten by his team mate in qualifying, Maldonado wasn't always left wanting. On some occasions, the time difference between him and Rubens wasn't exactly what you would call substantial. Another interesting point to note is that, had Hamilton not foolishly wiped him out during the closing stages at Monaco, Maldonado could well have out scored Rubens this season. Of course, it isn't all about points, race-by-race performance is key. By observing his races this season, you'll realize that, he hasn't been anywhere near as awful as some people suggest. In truth, he's performed quite well, especially when you consider that the Williams FW33 was by far the worst car in the field to be produced by an established team. All that this widespread resentment towards Maldonado comes down too is the stereotype that pay drivers are useless. Anyone who pays for their drive is instantly regarded as unworthy. Petrov is an example, some (not you prisonermonkeys) still regard him as mediocre, because he has sponsorship. People seem to forget Abu Dhabi 2010 and Australia at the beginning of this season. On both occasions he demonstrated he could withstand pressure from a double World Champion. Not to mention he has shown that he can overtake. His team mate Bruno on the other hand, hasn't shown as much yet. As he hasn't had the same chance, he is still a relative unknown. However because of his last name, many are already assuming he is rather good. Although he too, brings sponsorship. Still, I've ranted long enough. Hopefully I haven't come across too harsh or personal. If I have done so, then I apologize.
To still doubt his talent now would be foolish. Pastor wasn't in anyway lucky to win today. Sure, the obstacle of Hamilton was more or less removed; however he still had Alonso to deal with. And lets be honest, Fernando is the toughest driver out there. Nonetheless Pastor kept his composure despite coming under extreme pressure from Fernando and he didn't put a foot wrong; not to mention his pace has been fantastic all weekend. Brilliant win! :)

Thankfully I had the BBC coverage streaming on my laptop.

Great race and win for Maldonado. Very happy for he and Williams.

The Venezuelan national anthem ain't too bad! If Spain was that good I can't wait to see what Monaco has in store for us!

Well I certainly didnt like him but Im glad he did win for Williams sake and I hope he can keep it up... consistency is the key this year

I agree. I think Senna moved into Schumi's way twice? I guess Senna got confused about his throttle and brake pedals:lol:

Senna moved to defend and moved back. Crucially he left a car width between himself and the track edge (as Alonso says, "all the time you have to leave a space"). Not only did Schumacher brake too late, he was right behind in the braking zone, when he should have stuck with the outside line.

It just sums up how unpredictable this season is, so many drivers and so many teams are really in good positions to win their respective championships.

At this rate we will have the championships decided at the final round of the year. :)

Aren't drivers allowed to only move one time anyway? Thus making Senna being at fault here.

Schumacher did stick with the outside line, while Senna moved in his path again. And while looking back, Schumacher was a whole lot faster than Senna who seemed to be having problems with his car. Moving twice into the line of a car far faster than you is a bad thing IMO :indiff:

One more lap for Kimi.. :(

It wasn't the best race of the season but still enjoyable. Hope Monaco will be good.
