Formula 1 Gran Premio de España Santander 2012

I think Lotus did pretty good this weekend. Sure they lacked the pace of the two front runners but they managed to run away from Vettel, Rosberg and all still shows that the car is capable of showing more. Shame that Raikkonen only get to reeled in the front runners on the very last stint. True enough, they could've done better but not bad this weekend.

Not bad at all. I should have said not _as_ good.

They were a bit conservative/safe. I heard the radio to Kimmi "they still have to pit once more", which they didn't. And when they gunned it, it was too late.

Still great pace and only team succeeding with 2 cars besides McLaren.

Never take the radio conversation seriously because the radio transmissions through the TV were actually delayed. The radio conversation with Kimi might have been done well even before both Maldonado and Alonso made their last stop. Obviously because these conversation needs to be processed first by the FIA before they broadcast it on the TV.

I guess so. Still didn't make it any easier for Schumacher to judge the situation, he just had too much speed to judge properly, thus the stupid-ish mistake.

The guy has been doing this for nearly 2 decades. He knew what was going to happen and pressed the issue thus the mistake and this is something I've become somewhat use to from Shumi. Since his return I've seen a fair number of wrecks from him, not saying he's bad just not all that surprised.

It looks closed to me.

yup... saw a much better video from above and behind shows DRS closing. I'm out of excuses, but I still think he messed up.

I guess he's just being consistent then. He's been complaining and blaming Sennas since 1994, why change now :D

If you look on the left of the middle section, you can see Sir Frank being wheeled away.

Everything has it's prize I guess. :boggled:

I can see that option.

Ginsters, you can win the race, but in doing so you will stir the evil spirits, and the consequences will be that your garage, a lot of the equipment will be damaged beyond repair and several people will be injured. Will you take this option?

Yay or nay?

From the way I see it, Raikkonen missing out on the win may have been because the team expected Maldonado and Alonso to go on 4 stops, and made him stretch his first set of softs for too long for a 3 stop strategy...
If he pitted earlier for his first stop, he would've a better chance perhaps :(

Oh well congrats to Williams and Maldonado on their win, its nice to see Williams back on top once again :D

Liquid
Any more news on the casualties? One was airlifted to hospital.

One Caterham mechanic broke his wrist, a Williams mechanic was airlifted to hospital for burns and the rest was all smoke inhalation I believe.

Schumacher will have 5 place penatly at monaco .

It's worth noting that in Radovan Novak's world (looked this guy up yet? You should), a technical breach in fuel volume is a 23 place penalty but driving like a complete stool pirate and smashing into the back of another car is a 5 place penalty.

Yep, looked him up. I'm guessing the incident you were refering to was his allegations of Max Mosely's going's on having something to do with the mclaren spying scandal.

He once said McLaren - Ron specifically - were the source of the allegations against and video of Max Mosley.

I couldn't stop myself from laughing at that word.

TBH, a 5 place penalty at Monaco would be like a 10 place penalty anywhere else, because of its narrow nature.

Gutted I missed all the action as I was flying down to London today it sounded like yet another good race as well.

I think most people were harsh on Ginsters last season as he was up against the most experienced teammate possible and driving a poor car. I don't know what has changed at Williams but they have really changed and by the sounds of things are heading back towards where they belong. Well done Ginsters and the perfect present for Sir Frank.

The fire in the garage is quite a worrying thing and reminds me of when a car caught fire being refuelled at a pit stop. I hope everyone is fine and to hear all the other teams rushing to help is brilliant.

I hope that Monaco follows the unpredictability of this season and gives us more great racing. I hope I can watch it as I'm coming back from New York on the Saturday and will be shattered.

Wow what the hell. Thats all I can say. This is turning out to be one of the best F1 seasons in history.
Amazing win by Maldonaldo - I don't think many people genuinely believed he had it in him! Fantastic to see Williams winning again!

I can't believe Williams has suffered such a catastrophic pit fire though but I'm heartened to see mechanics and personnel from many teams jumping in to help immediately - in the Sky shots you can see guys from Caterham, HRT and Marussia instantly on the scene helping out and by the sounds of it Force India and others helped.
Glad to hear no one is seriously injured.

Kobayashi once again spicing up any part of the race which seems to be getting boring!

Easily the best Spanish GP I've witnessed - dare I say better than 1996?

I'm going to call it now and say Lewis will win at Monaco.

Hope you're right...

Don't know if many agree with me, but I think if it wasn't for McLaren's dodgey strategy pitstops and all around shinanigens, Hamilton would be miles ahead by now with a couple of wins under his 2012 belt.

So, so happy to see Williams win again, after 8 years of hurt. I've been a Williams fan since I started watching F1 in 1996, and I haven't been this happy for a race result in years... but the edge has been taken off somewhat with news of the pit fire. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for all the mechanics involved.

Cracking drives from all the top 5. Easily the best Spanish GP ever.

It's still not easy being a Button fan...
