Formula 1 Gran Premio de España Santander 2012

So what's the over/under on how many front wings Hamilton will break on his way through the field tomorrow?

I am gutted we have been denied a Hamilton/Maldonado first corner incident!

Nothing surprises me with F1, but this latest escapade almost did. However is guilty for this Mclaren fuel debacle needs the sack. If the ultimate decision is Whitmarsh, then he should go. After the witch hunt for the wheel gun guy, this deserves the same treatment.

Related to qualifying, any driver that doesn't put in a competitive time in Q3, should also be excluded.

Hamilton thought it would be too easy starting from pole, he wants a challenge. But I think that's a tad harsh.

I heard that when putting fuel in for the Q3 run, the refueller had the handle for the rig set to "drain". If it's true I have no idea how anyone can be that stupid.

Justin
How many did McLaren bring along?

Well we know the 1 on the car will be broken at the 1st turn when he hits Karthikeyan and does a Vettel and blames Karthikeyan even though it was his fault.

He hadn't been moved from changing left rear tyres had he? :sly:

Seems ridiculous to send him all the way to the back!!

Why should the driver be punished? He got through to Q2 within regulations so surely he should start 10th anyway?

If you don't have enough fuel then you don't have enough fuel. The issue is, he is sent to the back. Not to 10th place.

Meanwhile there are three drivers who did not set a qualifying time at all starting in the top 10. If they don't set a qualifying time in Q3 then they must start from the back as well.

All times from Q1 are lost when you move to Q2. All Q2 times are lost when you move to Q3. They have not qualified.
I do agree with you two however that sending Hamilton all the way to the back was extremely harsh. I think if each part of qualifying is treated as a separate session during qualifying then they should also be treated as such after qualifying; hence penalties relegate drivers only to the back of their qualifying session (that's the best way I can think to put it, sorry). Personally I think only unsportsmanlike like behavior (dangerous driving) should result in relegation to the back of the grid.

The Mclaren pit crew in practice session...

With Hamilton out, I'll root for Grosjean, with Lotus starting system and Hamilton out of pictures I can see both lotus beeing in front at the end of the straight on lap 1. I hope one of the lotus will win.

Oh btw Liquid wishing that someone crash is against the rules in this part of the forum. Just so you know.

McLaren, what the ****? You are never going to win any championship if you keep doing silly mistakes every single GP.

Anyway, congratulations Pastor Maldonado on his first pole position!

Apparently some guy bet 1 pound on Maldonado for pole and he's 200 to 1
I'd start getting out of my chair if i was him

Well I hope he didn't rip up his coupon in anger. Came good in the end.

Now all we have to do is find a way to slow down that McLaren...

Would be good. Take away half a second and we'd have an unbelievable season. They're doing a pretty good job of slowing themselves down though. 1 win out of four races with the best car.

*tire rant*

You are pretty much the only person (other than Schumacher) to complain about these tires. I'd much rather have some strategy and interesting races than the likes of what we saw with Vettel at Monza in 2010. The fact of the matter is that the bridgestone's were too good.

Kimi will win comfortably.

Changed allegiances have we?

Hamilton starts from dead last, isn't that just great :grumpy:

All I can hope for I guess is some good fortune for McLaren tomorrow, that nobody makes Vettel's race easy, and that a Lotus wins...

Seriously though, McLaren really need to engage their brains if they want the 2012 constructor's title.

Not having enough fuel to get back to the pits is against a regulation.

The drivers that got to Q3 and then didn't set a time start, where they are because they didn't break a rule. Hamilton (McLaren) broke a rule so were punished.

It's one of the few times I will say this, but it is a shame for Hamilton. My theory behind the FIA's reasoning for such a harsh penalty is to send a message down the pitlane. Don't even think of trying something like this. Same as in Canada 2010, not Lewis' fault, but the team were fined and Lewis was given a reprimand.

I'm not suggesting that today or Canada 2010 were deliberate, but it's a good message to send out. There are plenty examples of cheating in the sporting world, this was a message to all the teams out there to not try this.

The rules are the rules so Hamilton's penalty is correct. I don't agree that the punishment fits the crime though so I hope they look at modifying it.
