The fifth Sprint round of the year is upon us at the only circuit to have hosted Sprints in every season since the format was introduced. Interlagos has been on the Formula 1 calendar on and off since 1973, but is always one of the most anticipated races for drivers and fans alike. The singular trip to South America is met with fantastic racing, incredible fan atmosphere and support, and the legendarily changeable weather. Who can weather the storm to come out on top at the SÃO PAULO GRAND PRIX!

Ayrton Senna and the nation of Brazil are more or less permanently linked at this point. If I remember correctly there are at least a couple charitable funds with his name attached that are meant to help young people get involved with sports, among other things. It's not really a surprise that he's still idolized there.

Circuit has been resurfaced since last year so will be interesting to see how that affects things. It will be crucial for Lando to try and get close to maximum points this race weekend given this was one of the stronger circuits last year for McLaren of the remaining races, Qatar too. Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi were more challenging and apparently Ferrari are bringing their last upgrade for Qatar so constructor's battle might go down to the last race. Need Mercedes to up their game and make it more difficult for Max to score decent amount of points so he starts scoring more like Checo has done in recent races, good opportunity for them to beat Max again if he is getting a new engine for this race.

Kmag ill & misses Friday's running, plus Saturday sprint. Bearman stepping in again for Haas.
Well that ruins the "Haas is the only team where both drivers have scored a Pole Position at Interlagos" statistic. Pressure's on Bearman to bring it back.

Wait, is it allowed to switch driver between the sprint and main race? Normally qualy and race have to be the same driver. Not sure how this affects sprints.

Well, if they're doing it it's probably alright. I guess this never happened before in a sprint weekend.

Also depends on KMag being able to qualify for the main race tomorrow. If I were Haas I'd probably just put Ollie in for the main race anyway. Get next years driver a bit of extra experience.

Yes, because KMag will miss today's sprint qualifying he'll have to sit out the sprint race tomorrow even if he's feeling better. He could then do the main race qualifying tomorrow and Sunday's race.

They should just scrap the sprints and make things simple again. Or, instead of giving a young driver 2 FP sessions, give them a sprint race replacing a main driver.

This is the rule folks have cited that permit a driver change after the Sprint.
Provided any change proposed after the end of initial scrutineering receives the consent of the stewards, a change of driver may be made:
At each Competition where a sprint session is scheduled, at any time before the start of the sprint qualifying session for a driver who will participate in the sprint session, or at any time before the start of the qualifying session for a driver who will participate in the race.

New engine confirmed for Verstappen, so 5 place grid penalty for the main race.

New rear wing design for McLaren - hopefully it's as controversial as the Baku one.

So that's two drivers ill after Mexico, don't drink the water!

Bearman has to be the luckiest reserve in a long time.

Dang, Lando putting down some monster SQ1 and 2 laps.

edit: Wow, Bearman doing very well.

moar edit: I wasn't expecting Albon, Lawson, and Bearman to make SQ3. Nice laps.

McLarens got some pace on all tire compounds today. Hoping that holds out for the rest of the weekend. 😮

Bearman was very impressive, even with the deleted lap.

There is a chance of Ollie Bearman getting another crazy statistic this weekend.

If he manages to turn that good Sprint Quali result into a point or two in the Sprint race, but then cedes the car to Magnussen for the race, Bearman will become the first driver to score points despite being a DNS for the Grand Prix!

It's already been confirmed he will race the whole weekend. Probably not a good idea to return to a circuit so physically demanding if you are ill. Wonder how this circuit will impact plank wear and if floors will get damaged due to how bumpy it is.
