Forza 4 sound whining thread

First, the popping-crackling bug that annoyed people since the days of Forza 2 is STILL THERE. And it got worse.

Second, crowd noises are completely gone. I mean, they're just GONE. Remember these awesome moments in Forza 3 when you come out of a tunnel on Sedona? Not so awesome anymore.

Third. Sedona Speedway weird repeating noise. Google it. And no, they're not gonna fix it.

Now to the main part: engine sounds. I don't know. I don't know. They sound real, no doubt. As real as real sounds recorded with a ****** recorded and played back with a ****** player. Everything is distorted and overamplified, not clean. This is how cars sound on youtube. But not in real life to your real ears.

Sorry but you must be the only person who doesn't think the sounds in this game are great

I was driving a tuned Scirocco R earlier with my headphones turned up, and it took me back to last years race of champions, just sounded perfect!

I like the sound design a lot; it's in keeping with the game's overall aggressive style, but there is so much clipping that it really becomes a severe distraction. I don't care much about the lack of crowd noise, and quite frankly, I fear there would be even more clipping if it was in the game.

???? engine noise? that's the sound of a engine, esp a bigger motor.

even more so when they have more aggressive cams put it

It's not like it's too difficult to notice as it happens about a dozen times every race. Maybe I'm just more sensitive to audio problems as I've become accustomed to listening to lossless audio over the years where such problems don't occur.

KT315, have you tried turning the in-game volume down? Perhaps it's just a placebo effect, but I think it makes the crackling/popping (or clipping if you would like the more technical term) from happening as much, or at least, when it does occur, not quite as loud.

Im pretty sure there is in option in the menu that has to do with having engine noise/car noise way more noticeable then other sounds in the game... I know i seen it.. unless i was playing a different game haha.

I've noticed this crackling sound myself, a few times. But it actually never happened that often. Maybe two to three times duing some races, and never during others. I've not had it happen for a few weeks now. Granted, I haven't been playing as much, but still.

This popping and crackling. i can not believe it has not been fixed since forza 2.
it's an utter disgrace.
around 800 pounds ive spent to get the best out of forza, what with CSR wheel and kinect and seats and headphones and all the rest of it. anyway....

the headphones...those were the lastest thing i got to play forza, and i was really close to sending them back thinking they were faulty...and to find out it's a bug in the game causing it thats been an issue since forza 2 is just sickening as it spoils the whole effect(hearing all these popping and crackling noises)
i cant even use the headphones for the game anymore, its too distracting..

PLEASE TURN 10 SORT THIS PROBLEM OUT..if not for forza 4, at least for forza 5.

if you can not do this by the next game, then count me out.
i will no longer purchase anything from turn 10, as you will obviously just ignoring this issue.

Am I really the only person who does not hear popping and crackling whilst playing?

Around three grands worth of AV and I can't say I've noticed it to the point of it being intrusive.

Are the sounds perfect, nope of course not, but they are more than acceptable given the limitations of the 360 in terms of HD audio.

I suspect we're in the majority. I use either a trusty Bose WaveCD or a Yamaha RX-V640RDS/Acoustic Research AR-10 combination.

Maybe it's just a case of turning the Xbox 360 down and the amp up?

ive tried everything mate.
i have about 13 racing games and the 3 forzas are the only games it happens on, well and on race pro, but i managed to stop the crackling by turning the engine noises down*doesnt work for forza though*

First off, use proper grammar and capital letters at all times when necessary, please.

Secondly, you can turn them down in a sense by emphasizing the tire sounds.

first off don't tell me what to do?,:.!!'@
secondly that tyre thing you talk of does'nt make any difference. :P

You agreed to follow the AUP when you joined and as staff we will remind you that it must be followed.

AUP
You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages. Decent grammar is expected at all times, including proper usage of capital letters.

Its not optional, so please don't treat it as such, nor address any member (staff or not) in that manner again.

You're going to deprive yourself of a fantastic game, because of a small glitch that isn't that intrusive?

Personally, I've noticed the occasional 'pop' but nothing too intrusive, so it doesn't bother me.

Can you make a good video/sound recording of this? I'd be interested to see how bad it can get and perhaps it'll help people understand your issue.

I notice very very minor artifacting on my 5.1 setup to the point I really can honestly say it is negligible (but still can hear some unwanted stuff, it's just very very quiet), the whole 'effect processing' they've added to make it sound more 'raw' would be much more of an issue for me, but even that is tolerable as I understand it's an artistic decision (Not quite my bag though)..

Personally if you know a lot of people don't suffer from it (or it's so minor, they don't notice it), then perhaps you could also try and see if you can diagnose it a little, like borrow/steal another 360 that you know it isn't so bad on and try it in your setup? Or take your 360 to another house and try it in a totally different environment?

A video could be difficult to capture the crackling sounds.
With it coming from the headphones i'm not sure it will be loud enough to pick up, but i will give it a go.

It is quite obviously something wrong with your audio setup if it is being rendered as unplayable. Not the games fault.

What kind of headset are you using? I experience no problem even close to this when i use mine. I have an Tritton Ax720(actually its the second set I've owned), and while they are not the most expensive set out, they still get plenty loud with no problem. I have heard a "crackle" and "popping" a few rare times, but nothing like you are making it sound like.

On a side note though, it has only happened on Forza 4 for me. I can play COD all day and not hear it. Maybe its because all i hear is explosions and gunfire? haha i wouldnt doubt it.

The Audio crackle can be greatly reduced by uninstalling the game.
This.

I can feel your pain OP, but unfortunately, glitches gonna happen. It's bloody annoying to have to play with longer load times, but the glitching can get really distracting in some heavy audio situations (such as lots of cars backfiring) if the game is installed.

That being said, my biggest gripe against FM4 audio would rather be the lack of LFE in the engine sounds. I'm using a quite expensive 2.1 setup (ten grands) and there is almost no bass/LFE in the engine sounds. It may be related to the game being optimized for 5.1, I dunno. But I get plenty of bass/LFE from the game's music, so I'm not quite sure it's related to any specific setup or if it's just a weakness in their audio engine.

I don't hear anything abnormal but I also use the TV speakers. And those obviously leave much to be desired.

And imarobot, I do remember an audio setting where you could put more emphasis on certain items like tires or engine. I chose engine as soon as I setup the game and it really overpowered the rest of the game.

I have yet to get a chance to hook up my nice speaker setup to get a good listen. But I do feel for you OP. If you are an audiophile as it sounds like you are, that's a big let down. Maybe i should be glad I only use my tv speakers.
