, and having serious competition in this genre can only be good for all of us.

Nope it doesn't since Polyphony doesn't care about competition. They just build what they think is best, even if that is complete crap by todays standards.
And compairing FM3 to GT5 is just stupid. Comparing FM4 with GT5 makes more sense thats about the time GT5 gets released.

It is clear that the game is near completion.

Uhhhh.... and why should that be so clear? KY mentioned it in a interview, so what? The guy talks more crap than everyone else in the gaming industry, and a part that is true gets translated the wrong way. It is only safe to say that its near completion when Sony releases a press message mentioning the official release date.

It looks like PD wants to implement damage into GT5. But strange enough the entire E3 trailer was made with the ingame engine instead of the damaged Impreza part. If GT5 is really that close to completion than the damage would mainly be in (and at least working on one car) but it seems like so far they haven't build any ingame damage at all. Anyway i wouldn't be surprised if it takes another 2 years for GT5 to be released.

Wow, you know the release date!?! Please tell me!...:indiff:

And bewere, you're starting to sound like a Forza fanboy :P

Maybe "4Ever" isn't quite as long as we thought :P

Uhhhh.... Heard of Dan Greenwalt?:sly:

(Sorry for double post)

Forza 3 cockpit view/ still optimising for 60 fps- My bet is that another car will be taken off the track :) Hopefully they'll achieve it or they might as well cap everything at 30fps.

Oh brother.

Look, I got bored one day and decided to do a little torture testing, and ran on the Sunset/Nissan Speedway oval backwards, with Simulation damage. I hit a bot driver head on. And we both kept going. And I did it again. Several times. And yes, I did go slower each time until I was finally crawling, but tell me that's realistic.

I have to ask if YOU'VE played FM2 with Simulation damage.

And yes Amar, that is a great summation. 👍

I play forza2 all the time in simulation mode.
At least Forza2 has damage.
All the GT games have had no damage.
Crash and just carry on as if nothing has happened.

I also play GT prologue.
I hope when GT5 is released all the problems that Prologue has have been rectified.
Racing on the indy track most of the time all you get is wall riders its a bit like wipeout.
Also lets wait and see what damage if any GT5 has.
Will the cars roll over etc.

I'll trade WRC and NASCAR just to have the awesomeness and definitiveness of rollov...oh, wait, no I wouldn't.

I have to say, if all the cars in Forza 3 are going to roll over as easily and as laughably as the Audi does in that FM3 trailer, then FM3 will be carving out a new genre for itself in "comedy simulator"...

On the rollover nonsense... Do you know what it takes to roll over a Super Car? An act of God. They are designed specifically not to roll over. When in any of these celebrity car crashes do you ever see "so en so rolled over their Ferrari"? Never. On top of that I have never seen a single race in all my life where a race car actually rolled (haven't seen Nascar). The only cars that roll are pedestrian cars driven by lunatics and SUV's. I have played rFactor and GTR. It calls for a truly unique situation to flip a car in those games. Like smashing into the side of the Nurburgring (which is like this / ). In GTR you have to be going at top speed and hit something angled very very hard and if you are lucky you might rollover. Sure it does happen in real life but do not tell me it is a staple of realistic racing. You what is a staple of realistic racing more than 8 cars on the track at once. I am sorry but this is not a Wednesday track meet this is a race. Even 16 is on the thin side. I have played GTR2 with over 35 cars on screen at once at Le Mans and while it may not be the best looking game out there it does offer an amazing experience. Seeing 15 other cars all right next to you on the Mulsane straight knowing that in about 3 seconds you all will have to break and enter a hairpin corner is something else.

Did you read the post on the last page that proved this statement is wrong? GT2 had damage, not visual, but if you hit something hard enough your car wouldn't track straight anymore.

Nah, i don't know the release date (no one does since there just isn't any). And i'm far from a Forza fanboy :ouch: But it just seems like everyone on GTPlanet is extremely confident about a release between now and 12 months, and I just don't want to get disappointed. Just helping you guys not to be too optimistic and hurt yourself when the release date appears to be some years away :) If the release date is so close I don't see any reason for PD to put a CGI part in a ingame trailer to show the damage.

Yes i read the post.
Without visual damage to me its a bit pointless even bothering to have damage at all.

I have seen cars roll over watching the British Touring Car races on tv.
I totally agree with you all the GTR games on the PC are a lot better than console games.

That's ridiculous.

It's pointless having damage if it's just cosmetic and visual. Sure, it might look good, but so what?

Having a dented bumper doesn't really have a significant impact on a cars' performance. Sure, you can see the bumper is dented, but that's it.

On the other hand a knackered steering rack or broken axle is going to have a significant effect on the car. You can't see it, but it's damage that is far more significant than seeing some scratch marks on the paint, dented parts or a bit of cracked glass.

The PC sim world has a leg up on the console scene because they have been doing it for a much longer time and have far less restrictions in their development. But to this day there is NO PC sim that accurately replicates production cars (ie road cars like the M3, GTR, 911 etc). GTR Evo has some, like the R8 and the Gumpert but they are not even close to real life(there is no way to correct oversteer). The physics engine in Evo is meant for race cars. rFactor has mods but to be honest I have not played a single mod for a production car that has felt as real as GT5p. PC sims have nailed "race cars". No console can match PCs in that respect. But in my opinion when it comes to road cars GT is still the king.

It's pointless if they only have one. You need both in order to have a good damage model.

he has a very long time to go before he hits the BS heights of dyack or che.

Forza2 has both.
You can see the bumpers fall off and the scratches and dents.
You also have the steering pulling to one side and lack of engine performance with smoke coming from the exhausts.

That still proves nothing. You can't say one game is any better then any other game when neither game is actually out. Saying GT5 has nothing to prove is a real fanboy-ish statement. They do have a lot to prove to the gaming community.

Just because someone thinks I'm intelligent I have to prove it to them? I didn't say I was in the first place.

It's the same thing with GT5. Yamauchi didn't say it was the best game, never. GT5 doesn't have to prove anything to the gaming community. If it does, tell me what exactly does it have to prove to it.

Forza 3 developers say their game is the best simulator. Now I ask you: who do you think is going to get bashed to death once the other game is revealed to be better than the other one? The one that didn't claim anything or the one that claimed everything?

I'm tired of the "fanboyism" already. It makes me think you are a Forza fanboyism, because that is what fanboys do. Once a person defends a game, they call it fanboy. Why can't I have an opinion of my own, without being called a fanboy? It's because I'm right and the real fanboys don't want to admit it?

Do you know what the main problem with the opening comment is? He's comparing Forza 3 to something we know nothing about and saying Forza 3 is better. Do you know why some people are calling you a "fanboy" despite your "history" or whatever else you said previously here? It's because you're assuming the worst for GT5. GT5 won't have this that and will suck even though not a single thing has been mentioned about it.

There's not really much else to say about this thread then this really...

First off, I'm not saying Forza doesn't have anything to prove. They made claims and yes I agree they need to fulfill those claims. However, without the gaming even being out how can you make a comment one way or the other on it? It's either going to live up to the hype or it's going to disappoint.

You do realise PD calls their game the "Real Driving Simulator" though right? That right there is making a pretty bold claim that they have yet to hold up. If it's truly the real driving simulator then why doesn't it have damage? 100% accurate physics? 100% accurate car models? etc. etc.

You say you are tired of fanboyism yet you are saying GT5 has nothing to prove, thus saying that GT is the "real driving simulator" without even playing either FM3 or GT5, that sounds like a typical GT fanboy attitude to me. For all we know FM3 could be better, it could be worse, it could be even, or it could even be a different kind of game altogether. The exact same thing goes for GT5. Since no one has played either yet, it's really to early to say or even compare. You can have whatever opinion you wish, but just be prepared to be criticised for it or to back it up. So once again, prove to me GT5 is going to be a better game then FM3, because I really bet you can't.

Label me however you wish, but if you took the time to read my posts you would see I'm pretty far from a Forza fanboy. I enjoy the game but FM2 was a pretty big disappointment in many areas and I think FM3 has a lot to improve on if they want a good game and to live up to the hype.

I feel like you just read the opening comment. And nothing else.

I made a misjudgment with the op. Im not comparing the two. I'm not here taking shots at GT either.. I've responded to a few people earlier on that summed up my intentions. The only thing I'll stand by is that PD has competition, and if they haven't modernized GT, yes it will suck. GT has been stuck in a rut, and hopefully F3 will bring the best of GT out. Just by the basic nature of competition. I just remember this time - GT4.. i knew about night stages... previewing replays on tracks.. i mean.. I was damn excited due to the content that was being shown.

GT5 is now like that movie "AVATAR" to where even talking about it gets you killed. I'm expecting it to be good, because I know the meat & potato functionality of GT is phenomenal. But it is dated... and it would be great to get that push into the world of modern sims, not so much damage, but stricter penalty systems, better online, etc.

I'll think a bit more before I post with my irritated fingers again. :dunce:

Did Amar confirm livery editors?

I didn't.

This pretty much summs it.

You may call it a rut by to some it's adhering to a very particular aesthetic value :) Seriously, GT4 (there's Tourist trophy but that's another story) was the last full game by PD and while there wasn't much improvement over GT3 except in the area of graphics, it's no doubt due to the fact that it's still on the same generation console. Relatively speaking, FM2 was hardly different from FM1 despite being on a next generation console. Personally, what's important to me is the basic concept of a game and in racing game, I much rather have things that would improve the sense of immersion which include (not in particular preference)- good graphics, decent physics, good FFB implementation, realistic tire modeling, great racing atmosphere: good grid count, weather, night/day cycle, good penalty system, customization, tracks, cars and damage. The best racing game is the one that manage to get a good balance when it comes to realism. And if it's missing any of the elements, it's good enough that you can actually live without it. And while all the accoutrements can enhance the game, they don't mean ****all if the racing itself is half assed.

I didn't.
I'm sorry amar, but all those TBA might as well be "No"'s, because they don't give GT any "leeway" over Forza 3 & I haven't seen anywhere that GT5 will actually have 700 cars. In fact, I've been hearing it'll probably be less.

Both of these games are going to be great racing titles. I don't know why people have to join one side or the other. Come the end of october forza 3 will probably be the best console racing game ever made. Until GT5 comes out, forza will be on top, and all we can do is guess about GT5. The way it's looking, we could we guessing for a long time.

One thing is for sure though, I will have both games, and hopefully the porsche wheel for both(if it ever actually gets released), and more then likely play an entirely unhealthy amount of time on both games.

-snip-

It probably has something to do with the "us vs. them" mentality that seems to pervade a significant portion of western culture.

I think GTPSP and being able to swap cars between 5 and the PSP game is at least a good sign of.. around 800ish cars? maybe..

Like i Posted on Another Thread, The thing of trading cars between GT5 and GT: Portable, Isnt good news because of some thoughts i had:

-First of All, if theres None Porsche/Lambo in GT:Portable (Not Sure), why are they going to be in GT5, but you just cant trade em with GT:Portable

-Customization, If theres a possible Livery Editor/Body Customization, How is that going to Reflect in GT:P, since theres no customization in that game, Only Quick Tune.

BUT, I may be completely wrong.
