Where that info come from?...

I only read that theory on the forums to justify the car polycount on Forza3, but it's ridiculous that would imply infinite detail and spline modeled cars, Turn10 would be promoting that to the death because no game render like that except for simply or minor things like terrain surface, the amount of processing power to render a full car game is out of this generation consoles and the fact that T10 are speaking in polygon terms confirm that they are working the same as the rest, polygons and LODs.

Maybe in Photomode or menus but in-game the cars look nothing like 10 times more detailed, even the E3 trailer had some exact F2 models.

Yeah, I heard about the tesselation on Beyond3D, but it seems it was only offered as a hypothesis for the ten times polys..

But, in my defence, here is a good thread on there about tessellation and the 360
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=50486

I can see why it's been suggested Tessellation could be the reason for the inflated 10x claims, and I don't see why that would imply infinite detail and spline modeled cars, sounds like deformation maps could be used for damage modelling very efficiently.

Anyhoo, I agree they don't look ten times more detailed etc, that's not really up for debate (well not by me), I'm just wondering under which 'context' the marketing spin is being made, I'm sure it's based on some fact that isn't apparantly obvious..

The Mazda example was more of a tongue-in-cheek comment inferring that the "ten times the poly's" was referring to their lowest LOD from FM2.. not to be taken literally.

This is not how FM3 looks in-game.
We already had a comparison, the textures (sponsor logos especially) and a lot of details are not even close to that.

EDIT: Too slow, thanks. 8)

Actually it is in game. That has already been confirmed by Turn 10.

Never too slow. We can't go by phone cam and cam shots of alpha code video play back. Granted, we could go and post crap images of GT5p cars in replay, but no reason to do that either.

But then again, I have no idea of Turn 10 and PD lie. So that is beyond me.

Dude, the static pic of the 908 is from the same build.
They either up the texture resolution in photomode alot, or the screenshot(s) are faked.
The game doesnt look like that (i already got this confirmed from people who played it at E3), theres also a lot of anti aliasing on these screenshots.

EDIT: God damn Rand, please go to the PlayStation forums...

The off-topic banter and useless drivel will stop.

Either debate the merits of each game, or this thread will come to a full stop in short order.

As far as the polygon count in Forza 3 being 1 million polygons per car - I really can't believe that. On top of the fact that they don't look remotely that high, if it were true, then Turn 10 really didn't make good use of them if they can't top the car models from GT Prologue, which is a few years old. ;)

As for Gran Turismo 5 and it's polygon count - read this:

"One of the impressive stats offered up at the meeting was that in terms of polygon count a car from GT4 is equivalent to one of the headlamps in Gran Turismo 5."

Yeah... it does not matter that it was a off cam photo, I can tell there is a difference. Personally I do not really care as the the in game footage looks good enough for me.

Case and point GRiD. You can do everything right, but if you get the gameplay wrong it does not matter.

That is so true. Game play is the most important aspect of a game. Graphics are pointless without enjoyable game play.

For me, the order of importance of a game to be of value for me, with 1 being the best:

1. Game play
2. Bug free (or free of bugs...as humanly possible)
3. Replayablity/longevity
4. Graphics

I am going by what Turn 10 has said (like I go by what PD says), and then I wait until I actually play the game to make my determination. But then again, I hope they concentrate more on the game play, and bug squashing then graphics. I just want to RACE RACE RACE!

Agreed 100% 👍

Agreed 100% 👍

It's kinda like Oblivion. It looks like manure, has glitches and bugs to no end, but the game play is addicting as heck.

GT5 and Forza 3 are going to be long, with very in depth careers and features, and are improving their game play and physics more with each release. I wouldn't care if the cars looked like turds to be honest, just give me the awesome depth that those games have always given us. I don't mind the good looking cars too..that is just the icing on the cake! BOOYA.

Now...just PRINT the disks, SLAP them in the cases, and let me hand over my hard earned money TODAY so I can play them PLEASE!:bowdown::cheers:

Within 6 posts of mine, someone posted an off-topic and useless paragraph of drivel.

This thread will remain closed for another hour, to give everyone a moment to breathe and collect their respective thoughts. One of the GTP staff will open it back up at that time.

Now that everyone has had a moment to breathe, and read through the psoted warning, I expect to have civil and respectful discussion debating these two future games.

It is really the lighting and reflections that make GT5:P look so stunning!
What the!? That FM3 F430 looks strange as hell, way out of shape! Also notice the lack of details on the interior, and even more so on the driver. 👎

1 million pollys my ass, Forzas cars are crap compared to Gts, if they really did use that many then that's a very inefficient use of polygons and the modellors should be sacked for wasting graphical resources and time.

gawd, that looks amazing. apart from "gran turismo 5 prologue" in the corner and the racing helmet, id've thought it was real.

The modeling itself isnt even the most impressive thing, just look at the reflections, it reflects the whole environment.

Gran Turismo is said to be laser scanned Cars, who knows if some tracks are laser scanned. As far I know iRacing has 100% laser scanned tracks, and I compared for myself iRacing Daytona (oval and road) to GT5P, and GT5P is almost spot on..

Back to cars, if GT5 is laser scanned, we don't need to compare FM3 pics with GT5, because we know GT5 is more accurate in every way, even lightning.

By the way , that is 100% game play image of that blue Ferrari, all the other pics from FM3 are usually form Photo mode, wait till GT5 has photo mode, Graphics will be way more detail and way more AA

That's crazy! Although I own GT5P and a HD TV I'm still amazed by the game's level of detail. I mean that's just... freakin awesome! And it's not only the headlights, but if you look carefully at every inch of both the exterior as well as the interior, it's just as detailed as everything else. Thank god I'm a GT fan...

Ok, now lets see a close up like that in FM3.
