I dont think i need to remind anyone at the "Which series is better" poll, where T10 tried to bribe voters with free Unicorn cars for FM2 if they choose Forza.

Well, they "lost", which makes the whole thing pretty funny.

I missed this tidbit of news, so I just searched for the whole free Unicorn when voting for FM2, and found out that they are doing it for FM3 for some Cnet Poll.

I seen this banded around but where is the evidence - any photos, video? You'd think they'd take something if their main rivals came to checkout their product. More ******** from the Chemeister?

The source is from Che's blog - correct?

Heres che's comment about being suprised.

"The reason I say I was personally surprised was because PD aren't generally known as a studio to acknowledge that there are racing games that exist beyond their own. Which could explain why the GT franchise has been so stagnant in the racing genre since GT3. So it seems competition is good for the consumer after all. I know for a fact that Turn 10 will never stop pushing racing games to the next level."

Dude you should just say you found the picture, not that its yours ;)

Enh? That is for me? I don´t understand. :nervous:

The Forza 3 photo is quoted, of course, not mine. But the rally Datsun from GT4 I have just made right now on my PS3 60GB in GT4 photomode, copied to a pendrive and uploaded here. Perhaps you saw something similar before.

It is quite funny how seriously people took it..

I was surprised that after getting on several large Sony forums and blue murder being called that it only just swung the other way, the FM.NET community must be quite large..

For the record, I got a free DLC car, and didn't vote (It wasn't a requirement to get the car, but it's intention was obvious)..

In fact, what a cool system they have, the ability to hand out DLC on mass by people posting comments to a thread is quite cool, and I wish they'd promote more things this way.

I don't condone bribery, but I'd love it if PD had some community interaction like that, and awarded DLC cars for various events..

Anyway, enough defending FM from me, there is not nice outcome from doing that!

When the bribe was offered the FM3 votes got way way ahead of GT5, after it wore off GT pulled back until it got the lead then just after that the poll author locked it due to the bribery just when GT was strongly pulling away, so we don't know how far GT would have gone.

I have no doubt that once in on the Sony official forums, it would eventually have swamped FM3 by a huge margin.. :)

It was a bit of a useless poll, some of the voters may have been FM or GT, but I'd wager it was really a front for a Sony Vs MS poll.. You can't ever escape that!

I'm sure most people with GT would vote GT, and most people with FM would vote FM, I think you can look at sales figures to see PD would come out on top!

Yeah, Che himself has brushed off his negative GT comments with "All's fair in console wars". Shows you even Turn 10 or at least Che see it as a MS vs Sony thing.

I love it whenever anyone uses the argument that Gran Turismo is "stagnant" or "not innovative" because they have absolutely no proof to back it up. Compared to GT3, GT4 added over 500 cars, tons of new real world and street circuits, and a photo mode. Compared to FM1, FM2 had only 100 more cars, took away many of the tracks from the first game, added a photo mode and an auction house.

So instead of improving the fundamentals of the game (which they should have been doing in the first place), Turn 10 was more concerned about adding gimmicky side features.

Also, I don't know why every time a franchise copies a feature from another franchise it's made into a big deal. Every company on the planet watches its competition, finds what works and what doesn't, and learns from it. PD is no different. Neither is Turn 10. They're being hypocrtical too, because they copied GT4's photo mode and put it in their own game.👎

"I know for a fact that Turn 10 will never stop pushing racing games to the next level."

They already have.

Sorry for the rant, I just don't know of another developer with so many arrogant and pompous employees.

Now you mention it, It's also amusing another quote of Che's

chespace at Neogaf
Anyway, just feels strange to me that GT has set the bar that all serious racing sims need a cockpit view and then one of their own doesn't have one. But bravo on the 60fps especially on PSP.

So GT set a high bar after GT3's release yet they're stagnant. This quote followed up a comment of his how he is dissapointed GT PSP doesn't have cockpit view (on the tiny screen).

Anyway I don't want to judge Forza 3 on Turn 10 comments.

Sorry I don't use photomode, didn't know there was a Gran Turismo 4/SCEI watermark on the pictures.

To be fair, I never once heard them mention GT5 other then saying they brought their "A-Game" to E3 expecting GT5 to be shown, and the "We where surprised to see PD taking notes"..
“So, props to Kazunori Yamauchi-san and the PS1 team,” said Greenwalt. “That said,” he continued, “I feel that he’s passed us the baton. Perhaps he hasn’t meant to, but we have taken the genre to new levels and they’ve stopped evolving the genre. So again, tremendous respect to him, but I’d say the differentiator is they’re old school.” He conclued, “The emperor’s naked, and I don’t want to, you know, I don’t want to slap him around, but no game competes [with] us right now.”

And a lot of quotes clearly referenced to GT series.

About Che his tag on GA says all, he's well known for trolling GT as its a part of his job.

I'm in the same dillemma. While I really don't like Turn 10 as a company, you have to give credit where it's due - they make a good racing sim. Normally I don't support developers who act the way they do and yet at the same time I will probably spend $80 on the Collector's Edition. So I'm torn. :nervous:

Its a silly comment anyway, GT never "set the bar" for serious racing sims having cockpit views. PC sims have had them for years. GTR, Live for Speed, rFactor, even TOCA had cockpit views before GT... and get this... Test Drive 3 from 1990 :P

EDIT: And just incase you thought it was a one off, STUNTS, also from the same period...

Yeah, good call, not really seen that one..

Che does absolutely no favours to T10, I have seen his Neogaf tagline saying something about trolling, he has some history on there for sure.

I tend to ignore all marketing 'guff', I know T10 have really been bad this time, I watched the E3 vids, laughed at the 'definitive' rubbish, assumed MS are behind it all as usual and just watched the vids..

I don't 'get' why all the passion between the two games/consoles etc, but I can see that if you take a lot of this stuff seriously I can acknowledge that it could make you feel sour towards them.

I know, I found that silly too, I used to play Street rod and Test drive all the time with "cockpit" view on Commodore 64. I used to also play NFS 1 (the original and best) and that was fantastic with the dash view.

Haha reminds me of the cockpit "cheat" from NFS High Stakes on the PS1.
The game had only a real cockpit view on the PC, but there was a cheat (a button combination you need to press down in the loading screen) that put the camera into the car. You couldnt use the bumper cam anymore, you couldnt look back, the cockpit flickered sometimes and the graphics werent that great but i used it all the time, was so much more immersive. :) I also always used cockpit in ToCA2 on the PS1.

Ofcourse PD raised the bar for interior views via consoles, you may aswell do it right the first time for a car sim or don't make a racing/driving game at all.I know the dash views in NFS 3 HP ( pc vers. ) were photos but it looked good combined with the tracks & weather effects.

Haha I remember that, the entire dashboard was a giant 2D texture

I thought that was funny too - and ironic. Polyphony Digital/SONY didn't even have to bribe anyone to put GT5 in the lead! :sly:

What strikes me about this picture, is that the PS2 version of the same car looks better than the FM3 version! And that was on the PS2!

u know this forum should really give people the option to delete their accounts if they think a certain mod is an asshole.

All you have to do is not come here any more if you don't want your account.

I feel the same! Or better, GT give me that feeling, just a fast look and you are inmerse in the racing atmosphere. A little detail for me is the overall brightnes and contrast, in other words, the level of exposure of the camera is the key in that image.

Sorry my english.

I know this is Demonstration/Gameplay video form PD . Kaz menntion that the video was all in game!
Even IGN confirm it, because of many technical glitches that CG would not have.

Look at we got .. SPRINGS and suspension.. Is it me or I never noticed that in GT4 and GT5Prologue?

Any Forza3 screen shots with springs like that since this is whole FORZA VS GT thread?

I would not worry too much about che. He is paid to take pot shots at the competition. The funny thing is it's just not a him but almost a studio policy.

For instance can you imagine kaz saying some of the stuff that greenwalt tool said in E3?

In the end though when GT5 releases no one is going to remember what forza was all about

che

only gullible fools believe that fairy tale story. What does forza have that folks from PD would wanna copy anyway:lol:

I reckon GT5 will be one hell of a game. It's the first car sim game on a console with dynamic weather, likly to have a huge array of cars, tracks that get the best out of each car and hopefully feels more realistic and thought of as a better simulated counterpart from real life.FM3 has plus points also.

what? He never said that. When he was asked "is it real?" Kaz answered "of course it is". And the conclusion IGN made is that the trailer was not CGI, but "real time", meaning it's the graphic engine of Gt5......but it's not in-game footage, at least there's no proof of that.

Its not in-game, its rendered with in-game assets "in-engine".
Thats also the reason why the Citroen slides through the Viper in one of the scenes.
Which means that the game will more or less look like the trailer plus more aliasing. ;)

What I want to know is - what is that brown line that runs across the image [from the middle of the headlight to the mid-top of the tire] right before and during the crash? Is it to draw our attention to the damage - or is it a glitch?

For instance can you imagine kaz saying some of the stuff that greenwalt tool said in E3?

That is why I respect Kazunori Yamauchi so much - he knows he creates a superior product, therefore he doesn't have to say anything, disparaging or otherwise. :sly:

I personally think it's all in-game footage. Kaz wouldn't lie about that and if it was CGI mixed with gameplay - he would have said that.
