I think we know that the reality is, the top GT5p players would wipe the floor with him in the game... :)

Even if that were true (which i doubt), the point is michael is an expert in real life driving, which ever games physics are closer to reality one would expect micheal to be more at home on that game, if the physics are off (ie: unrealistic / deviate from reality) the fact that he is an expert RL driver would give his opinion alot of weight in judging which game is closer to real life.

For instance if im designing a flight simulator, i would be very interested in what a highly qualified jet fighter pilot has to make of it in comparison to real life, than some random guy who spends 6 hours a day playing on his console.

You didn't mention the grabby walls of death.
I forgot those too, something straight out of the Need For Speed code, seeing as a number of people came from different established game companies such as Crystal Dynamics and Electronic Arts - from a mod at Forzacentral. Those walls always did vex me, and you really had to fight for a second or two to break free as I recall..

That may be true, but as far as impartial comparative reviews go, the SRT review is about all there is, and it looks far more 'equal' then someones opinion on here does it not?
A reviewers opinion trumping an owner? I'd have to question that, personally. None of my points above are opinions, nor are Famine's "grabby walls of death." Excellent name, btw.

Tenacious D would have a burning effigy set aside just in case lol
Well, what I need is a flaming image of a GT Planet AUP idol I can plop down whenever someone alters a quote from someone like Kazunori Yamauchi to force a point and create an uproar.

Look, I concur that remarks like "Flopza is teh carp" are at the very least insensitive flamebait. But some of the remarks from people here defending Forza like ADD fanboys and accusing some of us of being rabid fanboys is just the classic definition of hypocrisy.

What I would hope to see is that Dan G and "She" - I like that too, Terrarium :sly: - would let F3 speak for itself, harp on those features that make it cool and fun. John Carmack rarely ever speaks about other shooter games. I think the closest he ever comes is to mention how crowded the field is, and that id Software tries to maintain the tradition of a wildly freaky environment with insane weapons and crazy player models to stand out. T10 needs a collective lesson in humility, and it looks like Prologue selling about as well as F2 in less time hasn't sunk in yet.

PD is too arrogant to look at other racing games. Turn 10 is too arrogant and proud to think that their game is perfect. Forza has flaws, GT has flaws. Forza does some things better than GT and vice versa. The 2 really should take a good hard look at what the other does better (things like AI, sound, physics, etc) and improve their product.

It only makes sense to learn from other's mistakes & successes.

Whichever series does this will earn my $$$, each and every time.

Well PD must not be to arrogant because they did visit turn 10 to check out there game play it and take notes.

The first part of your statement is spot on. Although the last part not so much. You'll probably be $60 richer because I don't think either series will ever look at the other for innovation and improvement....unfortunately.

Honestly listen to yourself.. I think when you start joining in with the "She" thing, it really shows how immature you are.

Page 109 seems to be filled with a ton of misinformation. Obviously Kazunori Yamauchi's words would be lost in translation when translated, as with any OTHER language. So don't base your critsizm on what he has said because the translater could get confused over what has been said and they could put a negative spin on what he has said. I believe the Forza2 comment was taken out of context.
Anyways, If Forza 3 is going to be as good as Turn10 says it will, they shouldn't over hype their game. If it turns out to be a crappy game, they will have some explaining to do, and after seeing the trailers and the gameplay for forza 3, really what are they hyping?
By the way Turn 10 is a pretty awesome name for Forza's developers. It really shows their maturity as most of them have just turned 10.(surprised no one has mentioned that...)
Do any Xbox game developers really have any respect for other gaming companies?
p.s. I wonder what Nintendo has to say about this, after all their best selling racing game is a Mario Game.

That is a new development from PD, KY has always maintained that he doesn't play or look at other racing games.

Does it make too much sense? I know when I produce a documentary I always look at other docs to see what's been done, what works & what doesn't. It always makes for a better product.

I agree, companies should always check out the competition and learn from it because lets face it everything is better then something else at something. The more you scout around the better it is for your product and better still for the customers as a whole.

I think there might be to much pride riding on both Turn 10 and PD for them to really give to one another...and really all that does is hurt the consumer.

The funny thing is, no one (well apart from Satans Revenge) has ever said FM is better then GT, just a few of us like both games for different reasons.

However, the overall majority in this thread seem hell bent on proving how PD and GT will conquer all, and can do no wrong, and T10 are the spawn of the devil and FM is the worst game ever..

The sooner people realise that PD are not perfect, as T10 are very much not perfect, and see that even if GT5 is the best game in the world to them, that the competition doesn't have to die in a ball of flames, and that competition is what drives the genre forwards..

I swear people just cannot see the huge irony of calling people who are being open minded about both games and balancing the argument, Fanboys..

Dude, get a job or something.

Someone thinks Gran Turismo 5 is going to be better than FM3 - So what?

You'd think you never heard of personal preference before. Get the hell over it and talk about something else.

You're welcome, but it's Terronium, hell, just Mike from now on. You made me sound like some type of aquarium or something.

Look where the topic...

You know what? I'm not even going to go down that road. I'm more concerned with the whole two-disc ordeal with FM3.

I dont belive that looking at FM2/GT5p sales is a solid argument, GT5p has no real competition on the PS3, its only only thing that come anywhere near close to a sim, like GT5p Forza is up against all the NFS games, but also has to contend with strong titles like the PGR series and test drive unlimited as well as Race Pro, the driving/racing game market on the 360 (to the best of my knowledge) is more congested.

Also PD has the advantage of the Brand name, that has almost the same house hold recognition as Mario or Sonic, The Forza series has to battle against that constantly, it was born under the shadow of the mighty Gran Turismo series, i cant tell you how many times i have come across people who without ever playing the forza series dismiss it out of hand as some cheap knock off, which in all fairness it certainly isnt.

Now Forza has made alot of ground, their sales are on an upward path closing the gap with GT, Its going to be difficult for forza to compete against GT, their the new kid on the block, are they arrogant hell yes, they have some new tricks and their hungry for the crown, and if PD doesnt come out of their self imposed vacume T10 will continue to claw and fight their way to the top.... T10 are not the respectfull fighters of old, their like a young mohammad ali cocky, rude and full of self confidence.

Mohammad Ali was put down by Frazier's fans as an arrogant punk, it didnt do them any good then, we all know how that fight went :sly:

Go easy on T10, one day they might just surprize you ;)

The racing genre on the 360 and PS3 are about equal now. PGR is possibly no more with Activision buying Bizarre, and TDU was one game (Eden is apparently working on a sequel but it's been M.I.A. for so long, it may never surface). Meanwhile System 3 is about to release it's second game on PS3 and EA is breaking into the sim market as an underdog with NFS Shift for both consoles.

However, I do agree with everything else you're saying. PD is stuck in its own ways. They need to expand, speak to their community and take notice of the competition. I'm not saying they should follow Turn 10's tactics and turn Gran Turismo into a semi-annual franchise (and thus rush the quality of every release), but many things have changed since 1998. If PD (and Sony) want to stay relevant, they are going to have to adapt.

👍

Things do need to change, but I think they are just very slowly at least so it seems to us. They release information whenever they feel it's ready to distributed and the only problem with that is anticipation; like I've said before - anticipation can be their best friend or their worse enemy. All that jargon pertaining to someone setting their expectations too high doesn't really hold much weight. Not after 5, possibly going on 6 years it doesn't. I refuse to believe anyone here, or anyone who plays GT5 once it's released won't be disappointed in the slightest if something was undercut, reduced, or just completely removed after all of the big-time hype surrounding it.

The expression "I waited this long for this?" comes to mind if something is to disappoint. Frankly, I am going to complain about something I spent my own money on if it doesn't feel right after such a long wait, a taste, and then more waiting with droplets of information leaked or released along the way. Perhaps PD does interact, but only with their native audience (not an opinion, just a thought). I can pretty guarantee I'm going to be critical of GT5 once it's in my hands.

On a side note, it's rumored that it's possible T10 might pick up PGR and continue on from four, although I'm not sure what they could do with it really - perhaps I say this because I'm used to them being associated with Forza. Also, SuperCar Challenge still hasn't been released? :odd:

Strittan, I have a feeling you're in the wrong thread. ;) And sorry Terronium.

I must be the lone voice here, except for the mod staff and Jordan, who think Kazunori-dono should keep his nose pressed against the window facing reality, and keep focusing on that. I don't see any point to seeing how some other game does anything. I thought the point of having all these companies with all these different views resulted in a variety of games with different features and flavors. Like, look at it this way.

What came first? Real life working reverse lights and tire marks, or a game which featured them?

What about F2's Auction House? Did it copy real world car auctions and ebay, or create them?

Liveries: are those available in real life? Or did Turn 10 create them and Photoshop?

Are engine swaps an original idea by Turn 10, or were people doing that and race modding in real life for decades?

There are very, very very few things you can point to which are intrinsic to a video game, and the only things I can think of are
  • Turn 10's Drivatar and PD's B-Spec driver
  • The racing line, which I believe originated in GT1.
  • Forza 3's notorious rewind button.
But I'm really scratching my head to think of anything else.

Will Turn 10 surprise me? Well, they already have in F2, which was a very nice game. But still, the bugs drove me up the wall, not the least of which was the livery editor bugs. And they didn't just drive me away, but a number of car artists from FM1's days, and who became notorious for their incredible skill in creating racing liveries. When T10 refused to address it, or the crashing issues, a bunch of us just dropped off the map. I was one of those who got bored with racing and got into the car creating, until the bugs became too annoying, and I ran out of garage space. So there went my whole reason for playing F2.

But I'll tell you what really surprised me: the childish antics of Turn 10. That really turned me off. It's one thing to complain about people playing favorites on a message board, but another thing entirely for these guys to turn into unprofessional smacktards. For some reason, it's just cool with some of you. Well, that's you. Some of us expect a little more from so-called adults, and like it or not, these are the ambassadors for MS and Forza. Well, they're sowing seeds, and that crop is ripening fast. If they don't like it, if you don't like it? Well, a little late to be making excuses for them. Little kids and grown ups both have to clean up their messes, and to one extent or another, Forza got a little tarnish on it as a result. Lord knows that GT5 has been complained about here just over unknown fears, so don't be surprised if a number of people get hold of F3 and aren't blown away, and make a number of posts quoting Dan G and others' lofty claims by T10 to prove a point.

👍 To you as well.

I'll refrain from sounding like an all-too-broken record with my criticisms of both titles, but majority of either audience just want additional features that add an additional "dimension" to the game. Personally, the livery editor in FM and FM2 bores the living 🤬 out of me. I don't really do anything with it unless I'm attempting to fool around and pretend I'm a third-party tuning/modification company as I did yesterday with the 997 GT2, but even that bored the 🤬 out of me after a couple of minutes - to me, it's a useless feature but it's popular amongst the masses...so, I just ignore it.

Until I get one of my ridiculous ideas anyway. :dopey:

The livery editor is both a blessing and a curse in Forza. It's VERY tedious and time consuming to come up with anything very involved at all, like doing a carbon fiber body and slapping some custom made mono-color vinyls on it. But it's like the Photo Mode in both games. Some people, like me, can spend an hour on a single shot, which is why I usually wait till the fall to do anything in either, when I have tons of free time. But the rewards in both are surprisingly satisfying. Like, making an amazing race car replica or creating your own unique identity. Or finding that one Ansel Adams-like shot that make people think you Photoshopped something. The creative aspects of both games really should be developed to their utmost.

And here's a funny thought. I think both Turn 10 and Polyphony Digital should ignore each other completely, and just focus on real world motorsports. There have been a few interviews where Kazunori said that he incorporated NASCAR into GT5 because he attended a NASCAR race and was quite surprised at the experience. Not that people were clamoring for a new NASCAR game and saw an opening to score a hit with gamers, but that he was moved and excited by the experience. He saw why the attendance for NASCAR was big in America, and wanted to share a taste of that experience with gamers around the world. And as a gamer who's all about Touring Car, Rally and road course racing, NASCAR style is a lot more fun when you're racing.

And this is what I really love about Kazunori-dono: the guy has this funny sense about what else hasn't been done in Gran Turismo. He goes to all these different motorsports events and thinks, "This is very cool... people should experience this. How can I put as much of this experience into Gran Turismo as is humanly possible?" And then he does it. When GT6 and the PS4 comes out, who knows what we'll be able to do? And Forza 4?

If these two developers ignore each other and just see what they can wedgie into their games, I think that's what will really benefit us as gamers. I think I've said enough pro and con on both games, I think they're both so close to release - and hopefully Supercar Challenge too, I'll just let the videos and pics pile up and build everyone's anticipation for what they want.

I think instead of taking you straight to GTP, you guys should create a new blog for Forza news so that forzaplanet.net takes you to forza news.
When I find another 24 hours in my day, I will do just that. :)

I think both series' are great.

After having picked up Forza 2 recently I admit it's pretty good and I'm looking forward to Forza 3 as it's just over a month away and shall keep me busy until GT5 finally graces my presence.

My only problem with Forza is the level up thing. I can't stand it.
In GT if I want a showroom car I'll save up the money and get it. When I started GT5:P I saw the Ferrari F40 and it was one of the first cars I bought.
Forza 2, see a Lamborghini Diablo but despite having the money I cannot buy it, let alone see it. And that goes for every other supercar/race car in the game.

I understand it's the way T10 like to do things but for me it's annoying and usually puts me off the game for a while.
I do think the relationships with manufacturers is a grand idea and is something I'd like to see in other racing games like... oh... Gran Turismo 5 :sly:

FYI, for Forza 3 it has been allready confirmed that every car will be open from the start. So for the next one your problem has been cleared :)

I know the feeling so well, guess the easiest thing you could do is redirect forzaplanet.net to the forza 3 sub section on the forums or something :)

Eww... well, that figures.

There is one more thing that's intrinsic to a racing game vs reality, and that's driver views. One day I hope that adjustable driver views are universal, where you can place and define the behavior (fixed, fluid) of your driver cam. I hope Gran Turismo features this first. It would be a fitting feather in their cap.
