I have something for the Forza fanboys to look at...

You can keep your damage, car painting and "community" crap. I'll take a racer that looks like GT5 over that **** ANY DAY.

You do realize that the GT5 pic is a pic from a TV screen and not a direct feed image don't you? The Impresa looks Tons better than that.
If you are going to make a comparison at least use pics that are direct feeds. That Impresa is in the GT5 trailer, It looks so much better there than in the pic. Don't give Forza Fanboys any more fuel for their pathetic GT hating fire. The can't even appreciate the game that is the GrandFather of all current racing/driving simulators.

I said so before, and I will say it again. PD should have never tried to do something which it can't complete. I'm talking about damage, of course. Damage on some cars, and not on other ones? Regardless of whether it is exterior, interior, partial or full, it's a stupid decision from its part.
Well, I guess I'll say it once again before Famine jumps on you.

Whether cars are damaged or not isn't Kazunori's decision to make.

This is one of the most stubbornly forgotten facts regarding Gran Turismo on the intranets...

got a question about the forza pic. Why is the driver so far forward and his seat so far back?
He's excited by all those definitive... things? ;)

Its weird with that forza vs gt pic... the forza one looks somehow more photographically real to me, but the gt one looks better... like the forza one was snapped by a guy at the track and the gt one was a setup magazine add shot that was post processed like crazy...

It seems that in GT the cars look like showroom models with perfectly flat paint and 9 coats of carnuba, wheras on forza they look more like your average car... I would swear on the forza pic I can see swirls in the paint on the rear right fender...

Forza and Gt have had different art styles from the start, and definitely think F3 is closing the gap and might even be a case of seperate but equal, but I gotta say, GT's graphical style still wins me over.

Take a very close look at the Pictures. Do you notice a difference? The Forza Pic is from an in game still shot from a direct feed. The GT pic is from a replay on a TV screen, taken on a pretty crappy camera. That subaru looks a ton better in the GT5 trailer. Watch it again and compare it. The Forza pic although it looks good, it looks like the car was pasted on the track. It doesn't look like it flows with the environment in the track.

Well now, you have to be fair about this. We all know GT5 and even Prologue looks delicious, and the F3 pics are kind of a mixed bag, for whatever reasons. But that F3 pic above does look pretty real. Admittedly, like one of those advertising shots which are carefully taken, manicured and Photoshopped a bit. But real all the same.

We'll see when the thing drops just how awesomely definitive it is or isn't, but with some of the shots T10 gave out, looks pretty good to me...

Here a comparison i made between GT5 Real time HID head light effects and real life HID effects.

This takes the cake for me.

this will be epic at night. PD has done way more then there homework it appears...

does GT5 actually use ray tracking now? that would be incredible. Are you sure it's not just a slightly different texture on the glass?

If i can some how get a very hi res pic of that i get into the detail further. But as for Ray tracking, that deffenently look's like it. In the video the lights were slowly reflecting off the chrome housing... IMO.. But if PD actually pulled that off night racing is going to look spectacular.

It may not be ray tracing, but I'd be hard pressed to know what else it would be. Ray casting? Whatever it is, it doesn't look like it's painted in. The headlights in Prologue are amazing enough with the reflections captured in them, so I don't doubt that GT5 is going to be a technical and graphic masterpiece. With all the headlamp pics coming from Prologue, you have to know that GT5 Photo Mode pics are going to be covering every inch of those 1000 some odd cars.

Um... dude? You're comparing a real screenshot to one that was taken from a screen, via a normal camera.

THIS is a real GT5 shot. And it just looks absolutely gorgeous 👍

I'm pretty sure Kazunori mentioned that some things are ray-traced in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. I do not have a source though.

Visuals
Just as past games in the series have pushed the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 to their limits, Gran Turismo 5 should be a system showpiece for the PlayStation 3. The pre-race screen shows your car being worked on by your pit crew in a garage, and these scenes will feature full HDR, ray-traced lighting. These scenes are stunning and easily rival anything pre-rendered footage could throw at the screen.

Okay, no ray-tracing in gameplay, but in menus. But that was in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue two years ago.

Im strange or brake calipers are on wrong sides on Forza3 screenshot ?

They where, and they apparantly 'fixed' it.. They made quite a few modelling errors, which they have been ironing out.

Still, their attention to detail is still evident, the E46 M3 race car they showed the other day mis-spelt 'Nurburgring'.. comedy error really!..

The GT5 vids are awesome, if they could fix the shadows (dithered/low-res/Whatever) and the wheels looking a bit low rent, there really would be bugger all to complain about (although I'm sure some will!)

I'm waiting for more info about GT5 before remotely even discussing differences to FM, there are too many unknowns/assumptions etc, people are saying the Gamescom GT5 demo is going to be nothing like the final build (which I find odd to be that far from the reality at this stage in the development cycle), so I'll wait with an open mind..

And in the meantime, it's nice to keep seeing more and more about FM, the graphics are still looking impressive to me (despite not being photo-realistic), and little snippets about interiors showing weight reduction/roll-cages and other small touches are surfacing (massively improved sounds over FM2) that make it actually look more and more like it's going to be a reasonably worthy rival to GT5.

I just see Forza as an unispired, raw, bad copy of GT.

Played the 1st on XBox and stopped at 33%; really annoying; it lacks the soul GT has, it lacks the "WOW" factor. it's not only a matter of numbers of cars, or tracks or contents; it's all the attention to the smallest detail that I see in GT, and I don't see in the other racing games. my opinion.

Why has the thread been allowed even 1 page much less, 116?

Because you can't stop fanboys from being fanboys. With a thread like this you can contain much of that nonsense within one thread.

Much the way other gaming sites have something equivalent to a "System wars" forum. If they didn't have that, the fanboys would simply run amuk everywhere.

Forza and GT comparisons ( heated ones ) are inevitable. Just keep em in this thread as much as possible and that's about the best we can hope for.

Unless these pro racers went to see GT5 for a hands on ( beyond doubt really ) then it's an arragant thing to say.

in the beginning I asked the very same question and now I have an answer....because gtplanet members (veterans) and mods are mature enough to discuss about it with users who tend to be on turn10's side, also because many of us own and enjoy both series. That thing (as already proven) will never happen in the official Forza Motorsport forum, no need to tell you why.

I really wouldn't say the thread is full of 'mature' opinion/discussion..

I see very little actual worthy comparison other then lots of irrational fanboy posts in the main..

And you won't see this on the official T10 forums or the official Sony forums, neither would allow comparitive threads, not from insecurity, but simply as it's outcome is undesirable..

That for sure is not ray tracing. It would take hours to calculate caustics like that. It's a a texture. Easiest, best, and fastest way of doing it is by texturing it i don't see why they would waste so much processing power on headlights lol

well you really need to go back and read dave a and mods post (the longest, most precise and rational posts I've seen so far)

that's right, the key word is "undesirable" and that's a shame, but I think you're wrong about Sony because in the italian playstation forum there's a section just to talk about the 360 world....that's a good example of democracy

Speaking interms of Forza 2 and GT5:P, I have completed F2, to the point where the only achievment left was the online cash one, basically after a while it felt like a chore to play, it wasnt as immersive or enjoyable as GT5:P at all..

I actually had to force myself to want to play it, i embraced it with an open mindset because i wanted a racer to play, i wasnt playing it to compare either really..

Was just pretty much dissapointed by F2 and thats just honesty, probably will leave F3 untill it goes Platinum like i did with F2
