Fully Automatic A-Spec Grinding - *Video and picture*

I saw this thread last night before heading out to a movie and thought...hmmm
I grabbed an extra USB keyboard, some rubberbands and some blue easily removable painters tape.

I setup the rubber bands on the controller (Don't have rapid fire) then I used the tape to tape down the Enter key and it wouldn't restart after the race? Hmm.. So I switched to a different USB keyboard (I'm a PC gamer so I've got plenty) and VIOLA!! It worked!!

I left for the dinner/movie and came back approx 5hrs later. I had started w/11 million and was pleasantly surprised to see 4752000 more when I returned. I checked my 'online log' and it had completed 44 races.

I'm A-spec lvl 34 and B-spec lvl 36 all golds so far except Eiger 1st stage so I feel I've pretty much accomplished the game. This last part to open up all the endurance races is pretty ridiculous so I don't feel so bad about doing this. PLUS I'd rather just race online w/friends and have access to any/all cars. This idea is awesome!

So, I bought a few cars and restarted it before going to bed. I got greedy though and tried to minimize my laptimes by reducing the "Right Turn" to a bare minimum. Got laptimes down to a repeatable 40-41 and went to bed.

When I woke it had spent the last 3hrs 'grinding' against the inside wall between turns 3/4.... It seems it hit another car had hit it, and w/out enough 'right', it ended up against the inner wall. I LOL'd and restarted/adjusted it for mid 42's.

As someone mentioned I am stood my PS3 on end. It seems to make less heat with a smaller surface area touching the table.

Cheers and thanks for the great idea!

PS - All you panzies whining about getting to lvl 24... <--THAT'S THE EASY PART! At least there are new races to give you CR and XP! Just do it! :-)

If anyone is interested here is some math I did to see what would be the fasted way to level from 39-40:

First here is some details:

- I assume you will be using the X1 for every race

- I assume that you can play 6 hours a day, I figure from 6pm - midnight. The only excpetion is if you play Tsukuba 9H which takes 6.5hrs of actual driving time to complete.

- I am using the enduro trick of only needing to drive for the required amount of time that will let you win, for example the Le Mans 24hr race only requires you to drive about 18 hrs of it since you will be so many laps ahead by the 18th hr that 2nd place cannot catch up by the time the 24hrs expires

- I assume my numbers and my math is right, let me know if I made any mistakes ( I just realized they my calculations for the Le Mans + Enduro Indy + Dream Indy are incorrect, I forgot about the 7 or so hrs required to actually finish the Le Mans race, so the final complete time if off but I'm to lazy to edit the spreadsheet and reupload the image)

From the looks of it if you do 3 Enduro Indys per night and then let the auto Dream car Indy run all night and all day (while you are at work) then you will be level 40 by the time you come home on the 4th day.

I also think this combo is the best, not only because it appears to take the least amount of time but also since you only have to dedicate 2hrs per driving session then if for some reason you cannot commit to the full 6hrs continuously, then you can just do the 2hrs and let the auto Dream Indy run after you are done your 2hr stint or if you want to play online then you can because you only need to finish off the 2hrs. Once you are done playing online you can then either play another 2hrs of Tsukuba or let the auto grind take over.

So will any cheap USB keyboard with a jammed enter key work?
I had a setup identical to this but with no keyboard (I was on duty every 7.30 mins) to press x and get credits/xp :grumpy:

So glad that this works though 👍

Bought a cheap £4 Asda smartprice usb keyboard and it works like a charm 👍

But wait a second.
Do I need 1.05 patch for this?
When I play I have to go all the way out to the menu again to redo it.

Has anyone tried this on the American Championship Indy Course??? What car would be best to use in this series?

Only works with the Red Bull X1.

But wait a second.

No.
The keyboard's enter key will automatically redo the race.

Hehe nice summery. I for one just need 500k to 39 now and after that will still only use auto pilot to get to 40. Not to bothered about how fast it goes as long as I don't have to do any repetative racing myself. 👍

Made a new topic for all the requests I got and the disbelief there is on the forums.

Hope this helps for people to enjoy the game without the need to grind credits themselves.

:)If you do not like this method or think it is cheating, that is fine with me.
With all respect please play the game the way you prefer, it's your life but please don't post negative comments and leave each to his own.

:gtpflag:

It creeps the hell out of me how the shadow of your hand with the camera can be seen on the TV at the second video. That's actually not possible. Where is that hard light source that makes this shadow? How is it possible that the shadow is so sharp? It's completely impossible. Or can you film your own hand filming? :ill: Combined with that music it's like the twilight zone.
That's a paradox, a hoax! Or two people at once are filming that race. But why, WHY?! It's like pointing a camera at a TV while the TV and camera both are connected to each other. I'm so confused.
(:scared: runs away, crying like a baby, scared to death)

Its a projection screen....

Thanks so much man it work's great! I will post pics of my setup later :)

I came up with something like this myself for Oblivion. I had my dude auto casting spells, and sitting in a corner blocking hits to boost his defence :)

Lol. It is a Projector like Dashers pointed out ;) I was wondering when that sort of comment would surface. It does seem odd :). I am motivated to use a cardboard cutout clown along with some derranged circus music for my next video now..

I think you choose to do the Championship instead of only choosing for that race.

How did some of u guys beat the 'Like the Wind' indy course? I tried the X1 and the best I could get was 7-9th place.

@ Murre:

Only the Race yes not the championship.

@ NFLguy33:

How do you mean ? Hope you mean by grinding the wall and not driving it yourself hehe.
Never tried like the wind to be honest with this method, sucks for money and xp anyway.

For how long did you guys leave your PS3 on?

I've known about this in GT4 with the Suzuku and did it but well...I'm afraid that the PS3 might overheat, it's standing vertically and I can't really feel that it's getting warm. Yet, I don't want to burn it and am afraid of leaving it running for 20 hours straight (overnight + work day). :P

Put a couple of small blocks under the PS3. Maybe a 1/2 inch or so. This will also help with cooling.

Sincx,

This has been a real life saver for me. I never would have imagined doing something like this to play a video game but leveling up 30+ has become too hardcore for me and I've had enough grinding. I gotta say I probably would have given up even attempting level 40 without this but I now have hope. :)
And the way that post was written made me laugh.

Thanks again.

I rest my PS3 horizontally on a cookie cooling rack with a small table fan set on LOW. You will be amazed how simple and how well this works.

My slim has been on for over a month now and it is horizontal if that eases any fears.

The 'House fire spotted from space' headline in local press is exaggerated at best.

I just wish there was a auto grind from level 15 to 20 now, which is what I have to be to access the expert races.=)

Do you need to grind to get from 15 to 20? I just completed all the level 15 - 19 races and was at 20 by the time I finished. And, as someone else said, the seasonal events will up your XP massively.

According to my calculations I have to grind this way 15 days straight to reach level 40.

I'm A-spec level 33 which leaves me roughly 27.000.000 XP before level 40.

XP needes: 27.000.000
XP per indy: 9819
Avg. indy lap: 44 seconds
Laps indy: 10
Additional seconds/race due to start race, bumping cars and press x to continue: 15
Sec/hr: 3600
hr/day: 24

27.000.000 / 9819 * (44 * 10 + 15) / 3600 / 24 = 14,480853 days.

This theory may get comprimized if the X2010 spins out, I stop to spend the max. 20M or to trade cars. Will try to reach level 40 in those 15 days though :D

Yeah I'd stop and spend it. If it's gonna regenerate anyway u may as well spend it. I stopped to buy a few things with my 20mil. It was only supposes to take a few minutes. That was about a week ago. Just never bothered to start again.

The exp is pleasant enough to live with, it is the cash (oddly enough) that becomes the biggest pain! Another $20million to spend! I ended up gifting cars about and spending the full $1m to repair just to get rid of the cash!

Ha ha, this is awesome. I personally have set up an arduino to control a servo to press X and O to automatically grind B-Spec's Dream Car Championship, but I'm not in such a rush to finish A-Spec just yet, really. I'm absolutely certain someone, somewhere could wire an Arduino up directly to a PS3 to act like a controller and then use Processing to 'watch' the game and drive automatically, in fact someone has used something similar to do just that with an iPhone game, I think.

Oh yeah, in case you aren't aware, Arduino is an open-source programming language for open-source programmable microcontrollers, and Processing is an open-source visual programming language... Very geeky, yeah, but whatever, you can do some pretty amazing stuff with them.

god-DAMNIT! **** this ****. When I came down just now my PS3 was in XMB, my toothpick was not in the controller and when I booted my PS3 it had 8,900 Cr.Way to make my PS3 crash by cleaning around it MA. My potential 11,000,000 Cr. gone to waste. I'm keepingsaking my PS3 in this state elsewhere. Ain't taking no risks, this is a bad omen.

this stuff comes ridiculously handy, thumbs up to the guy who thought of it.

did anyone with gaming keyboards (the ones who have a macro system with built-in memory) try to use it in b-spec ? it would be quite useful for the enduros and for the air of experience trophy.
i guess the ultimate trick would be to do a macro to buy karts endlessly though, you would get the 1000 cars trophy in like half a day lol
