Wow, 63 pages on this... I was at page 43 (and yes, I've read through all of the posts) and I actually had to get up and do something else for a while, because some of the posts were just getting too irrational for me.
For the record, I'm straight, and I am a catholic. If I were to rely on my religion, I'd say what has been repeated endless times in the previous pages: "Being homosexual is a sin, and because of that I'm against... blah, blah, blah...." but...
I'm absolutely pro gay-marriage.
As one person said earlier in this thread, "religion can be one of the most evil things ever created". I was baptized twice (I'm not going to extend myself here on why that happened, but if an explanation is needed, then ask), I did the whole communion thing, and was confirmed as well. But, although I went through all that, I don't believe in God (in a certain way); I don't believe in Heaven and Hell (in the way that most christians and catholics do). But this doesn't make me better or worse than any christian, chatolic, atheist, homosexual, or heterosexual. It's just what I believe in, and I'll respect whatever anyone believes in, if they can respect my beliefs. Does gay marriage affect my beliefs in any way? No, it surely doen't, so I have no problem with it.
I admire the three users (Ten, HondaKid, and Vladimir) that make a stand for what they believe in, and I respect them a lot for that. It doesn't mean that I don't respect other points of view, but they are mostly the ones under questioning here. Although it says "New member" under my username, and I haven't been here that long, and the fact that English is unfortunately not my native language, I do read most of the opinions from many users, and I sure respect some of them, although I haven't talked to them once.
The fact is, that I don't think that you choose to be straight or gay. I'm 20 years old, and I don't recall thinking "Hmmm, let's see... I think it's about time I choose if I like women or men... Nah, I like women better, so that's it!" ever, because that came naturally. I saw a really hot woman, and my body simply reacted to that. I saw a guy that every girl around was practically drooling for and, oh, surprise, no reaction there (well, apart from jealousy). If it happens the other way around, isn't it natural?
I have two brothers, and they happen to be identical twins. One is perfectly straight, and with the other one we've (meaning, my parents and me) had some doubts, because we suspected someone had been watching gay porn in one of the computers, and we'd ruled out everyone but him. We've talked to him about that, and the browsing has stopped. Does that mean he's gay? Does that mean that, since they are identical twins, we should be "worried" about the other one too? Does that mean he was simply experimenting? I don't think so. And the truth is, that shouldn't concern me. I'm his older brother, and I'll support him no matter what.
I suppose it's the same with other countries, but well; around here, we have what's called a civil marriage and the marriage itself, which you do at church (take into account that almost 95% of the population of this country is catholic), and most people do them both. Well, my parents only did one. Why? To this day, that's a mystery to me, but the fact is, that they cannot go to church and comulgate (right word?).They are forbidden to, because of that. Why? Because "God" said so. So, let's say that the vast majority of gay people are not christians or catholics or whatever, therefore, why should they be bound to the rules of the cristian or catholic church? Let them have the same rights as everyone else. They are not "monsters", or "abominations". Who can stand up and say, with all true rightfullness and property, that they are?
Too long a post, and not too much time... I'll finish this up later.
