Well, if they didn't bring us over here in teh first place, they might have a case. :dunce:

But yeah, what brian said. Skin color(that has not bearing on anything) can't be compared to sexual orientation.

Either way it's prejudice to be against gays.

You believe that because you think they are born that way. I don't. So, I'm not being prejudice.

Discriminating against a person for something they have no control over is what I deam as prejudice.

Government discrimination against people for lifestyle decisions is wrong. You chose to be christian, if the government were to pass a law forcing christians to wear an armband it would be just discriminatory.

You weren't born a christian, you chose it. Even if you think you didn't chose it you could choose not to be now. It's parallel.

Since you weren't born a Christian, you (or somebody else) chose it, it isn't prejudice to discriminate against you?

*EDIT - danoff sort of addressed this just before I did. Shows what happens when you go for a pee mid-post.

I don't think they are born that way, I never said that so don't assume. I think they choose to be that way, but I still respect their choice.

prejudice: Irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular group, race, or religion.

Gays are a group are they not?

It's prejudice to make any decision or comment based on a persons' age, gender, race, orientation, physical abilities, income etc.

It doesn't matter whether they had the choice or not. How could it not be prejudice?

[edit]

Whoa, damn, quadruple pwning.

Duke
Some blacks managed passin'. Are you saying that homosexuals should try it too?

That's their choice.

Or is it that you just don't care because it's not your turn in the barrel this time?

It's always going to be my turn in the barrel -- unless I decide to bleach my skin.

But the unjust discrimination against it can be.

No it's NOT! The discrimination against Blacks is/was FAR worse than the discrimination against gays.

That may be true. But it is still the case that it is one large group of people (Christians) unjustly discriminating against another group of people (Homosexuals). Whether the scale of the discrimination (be it through violence or whatever) is the same or not is irrelevant.

Wow, you guys really got me....but not. To be prejudice or bigatory. I have to have ignorant preconsived notions of a certain type of people. You all say I haven't a clue what I'm talking about but can't get your scientific evidence to give you a definite answer.

To me discrimination is discrimination, and you may be saying that just because you're strait. What difference does it make if someone is white/black and/or gay/strait?

Perhaps, but I'm not the one who brought it up, so... :P

Only because people can't hide their skin colour, but can hide their sexuality to the public.

Precisely.

What about white kids that thing they are black? Or Wacko Jacko, he hides it pretty good.

If you want to say I'm discriminating, fine. That's not my intention. But I'm really not worried about how you feel about my views since none of you care about how I feel.

The liberalism of people today is absolutely astounding.

Funny you should say that cause I'm pretty conservative on just about everything, knowing what morally right doesn't come from a political party.

Your comments are the pettiest one I've ever seen. What about stupidity? Do you think you can hide that? Just try to make a few intelligent posts here and convince me.

What the hell difference does it make if I don't care about how you feel??? We're talking about national policy here, not your feelings. You're right I don't care how you feel, just like you don't seem to care how gay people feel when you make them second rate citizens by supporting laws that discriminate in your favor.

The liberalism of people today is absolutely astounding.

Democrats are usually the ones who appeal to this feeling nonsense. They're the ones that worry about how others feel all the time and use their feelings to dictate policy (rather than their brains). I'm surprised that a conservative would stoop to this level of argument.

...but the conservatives keep surprising me with new lows. It's getting harder and harder to distinguish the democrapublicans.

Wow, 63 pages on this... I was at page 43 (and yes, I've read through all of the posts) and I actually had to get up and do something else for a while, because some of the posts were just getting too irrational for me.
For the record, I'm straight, and I am a catholic. If I were to rely on my religion, I'd say what has been repeated endless times in the previous pages: "Being homosexual is a sin, and because of that I'm against... blah, blah, blah...." but...
I'm absolutely pro gay-marriage.
As one person said earlier in this thread, "religion can be one of the most evil things ever created". I was baptized twice (I'm not going to extend myself here on why that happened, but if an explanation is needed, then ask), I did the whole communion thing, and was confirmed as well. But, although I went through all that, I don't believe in God (in a certain way); I don't believe in Heaven and Hell (in the way that most christians and catholics do). But this doesn't make me better or worse than any christian, chatolic, atheist, homosexual, or heterosexual. It's just what I believe in, and I'll respect whatever anyone believes in, if they can respect my beliefs. Does gay marriage affect my beliefs in any way? No, it surely doen't, so I have no problem with it.

I admire the three users (Ten, HondaKid, and Vladimir) that make a stand for what they believe in, and I respect them a lot for that. It doesn't mean that I don't respect other points of view, but they are mostly the ones under questioning here. Although it says "New member" under my username, and I haven't been here that long, and the fact that English is unfortunately not my native language, I do read most of the opinions from many users, and I sure respect some of them, although I haven't talked to them once.
The fact is, that I don't think that you choose to be straight or gay. I'm 20 years old, and I don't recall thinking "Hmmm, let's see... I think it's about time I choose if I like women or men... Nah, I like women better, so that's it!" ever, because that came naturally. I saw a really hot woman, and my body simply reacted to that. I saw a guy that every girl around was practically drooling for and, oh, surprise, no reaction there (well, apart from jealousy). If it happens the other way around, isn't it natural?

I have two brothers, and they happen to be identical twins. One is perfectly straight, and with the other one we've (meaning, my parents and me) had some doubts, because we suspected someone had been watching gay porn in one of the computers, and we'd ruled out everyone but him. We've talked to him about that, and the browsing has stopped. Does that mean he's gay? Does that mean that, since they are identical twins, we should be "worried" about the other one too? Does that mean he was simply experimenting? I don't think so. And the truth is, that shouldn't concern me. I'm his older brother, and I'll support him no matter what.

I suppose it's the same with other countries, but well; around here, we have what's called a civil marriage and the marriage itself, which you do at church (take into account that almost 95% of the population of this country is catholic), and most people do them both. Well, my parents only did one. Why? To this day, that's a mystery to me, but the fact is, that they cannot go to church and comulgate (right word?).They are forbidden to, because of that. Why? Because "God" said so. So, let's say that the vast majority of gay people are not christians or catholics or whatever, therefore, why should they be bound to the rules of the cristian or catholic church? Let them have the same rights as everyone else. They are not "monsters", or "abominations". Who can stand up and say, with all true rightfullness and property, that they are?
Too long a post, and not too much time... I'll finish this up later.

This is an opinions thread. As such, I'm not here to convince you of anything. If you choose to believe that I am petty and stupid, you have every right to. Duke asked me a question, and I answered it. 911_Carrera made a comment, and I expressed my opinions in reference to that comment.

I was thinking about bringing evidence to this thread that would support my "petty" and "stupid" opinion, but that would only take the thread off-topic; something I try to avoid doing in discussions this heated.

I'll PM you why I said what I said.

That was a simple statement about the liberalism. That's all. Everyone seems to just want to go with the flow. You actually have a basis for what you are saying, but most just want everyone to live happily ever after.

You want to hear about discriminatory marriage laws. How about you can't marry a white woman if you're 1/16th anything else besides white? Not that's discriminating against marriage that's between a man and a woman because of race. What we're talking about here is literally changing what marriage is. I will do my best to not allow that to happen.

Yes. I'm talking about changing the definition of marriage - because as it is defined I think it is unconstitutional.

You can't defend a discriminatory policy by saying that it's always been that way.

Thanks to "intersex" (mainly G6PD, an endemic mutation), the Domincan Republic has a legally recognised third gender state.

Define marriage there in terms of "man" and "woman"...
