Guys, just look at past and you will have answer. Nothing different this time, its all the same every time.
Realease dates for GTseries:
GT1: December 23, 1997
GT2: December 11, 1999
GT3: April 28, 2001
GT4P: December 4, 2003
GT4: January 10, 2005
GT5P: December 13, 2007
With a small exception like GT3 (probably because of some unwanted delays), every GT game was released in ~december in Japan, and on first months of new year in EU/US.
It will be the same this year. Thats it.

PS3Hype.nl just asked Play.com where they got the message and they received the answer i've posted earlier "the release date is official blablabla". why don't you send an email to Play.com and ask directly?! easy as pie but no one did it at GTplanet... since the release date didn't came from amar and his "the wind will blow over the mountains and the giant bird will fly... blablabla..." ridiculous bull.

GT5's release date on Play.com has changed a lot in the past, what makes it more reliable now? What makes it more reliable than other retailers? Why would they know but no one else?
The fact other retailers state differing dates pretty much shows its an estimation at best.
And I'd believe amar way, way, way before a retailer. There's a pretty obvious reason why that is.
Its so pitiful in this day and age to treat your fan base like this. I have been a GT fan since GT1, have had the exact same treatment from PD since then too. They just ignore us, pay no attention to us at all, can't even bother up[dating their own site or participate in their "own" Sony forum. I am really loving the way Turn 10 has taken care of its fans, as well as Bungie, and many others.....that's how its done! PD pay attention!

Because history repeats itself, ESPECIALLY with PD. They will announce an official release date to the PUBLIC first... Not to a gaming website with no credible source other than "we got the release date from the manufacturer/producer" It's not true...

Yeah, PD have never given the fans anything, not even a taster of GT5 or any demos or trailers. Not told us anything about the licenses in the game or what the graphics look like or if there is damage. They don't try to gain manufacturers we'd like to see like Ferrari and they don't bother trying to expand beyond Japan. They have ignored the wish for an online mode too!
Sorry Polyphony, you're not doing what we really want, responding to idiotic posts and creating a website with news for everyone to criticse and moan about. Didn't you know, PD, the game is the least important part of making the fans happy?

I was at game stop today and I looked at their release date sheet they had in the store. And I saw something that might be of interest.
Gamestop is top notch and a reliable source. I saw Grand Turismo 5 for May 3rd 2010. Then again the sheet says these are anticipated ship dates.
See for your self. I stole the sheet and scanned it for you guys

I'm sure it could become alot more credible if someone ran a few release date checks for other games on that list. Even then though I wouldn't believe until an Official announcement is made. Seriously why is this thread in existence?

^^^ I used to work for GameStop, and I know first hand that not all of those are Official dates. Trust NOBODY until Sony or PD have an official press release.

Apparently you misunderstood me. I like having the devs release info and communicate with their fans once a week. PD has never done that. I loved getting new vids sound bytes and pics while waiting for the release of FM2, no PD has done this a bit, but not enough. It's wonderful when you can actually get responses to your questions directly from the dev. Do you not agree. Being sarcastic is great fun, but I'm still seriously let down by PD in these regards, hopefully not the full GT though.

Thats what I expected, someone else says Play told them that Sony told them the date.
Amar has proved himself many times, why should I/we believe PS3Hype.nl and Play.com?

The more I think about it, a 2010 release is ultra fail. 5 YEARS? Releasing even on the last day of 2009 sounds so much better than 2010. They must have really neglected GT5 thanks to GT Mobile or perhaps this will be the game with the most content ever.

GT5 is this year. There is enough "reading between the lines" evidence to support this without the need for unofficial release dates....even if it is the case that it will be Nov or Dec.
I happen to believe that Sony are going to exploit the release of Modern Warfare 2 by marketing GT5 alongside MW2, rather than competing with it, to say to customers "look, only these two games are available on one console...the PS3".
Having people buy one console for one game is a stretch, and as much GT5 will be a console seller, we need to be realistic and say that millions upon million are NOT going to buy a PS3 just to play GT5....but if Sony market two blockbusters that are only on one console, I think the number of people buying a PS3 will be upped dramatically.

this year would be the most logical time to launch, a month before Christmas would maximize sales of software and for Sony it would move a heap of hardware. I sense a announcement at Tokyo game show of more acquired licenses and a ps3 price drop to tie in with the games release before Christmas, amar did mention in his cryptic message the relese date 30 days before 12 months past 12 months being December.
Leaving the games release till the following year would make poor business sense as polyphony said the games ready, and if you were to pick the best time to launch it wouldn't be may or what ever the other date was thought to have been.
I guess we will all have more info when playstation magazine comes out next month.

No, I don't agree. Its the least important part of being a developer.
And judging by the attempts by other developers and what the vast majority of people post here, it isn't particularly useful for them either, mostly a waste of time.
I'd rather have a brilliant game (which I don't doubt GT5 will be) than a rubbish game with the devs telling me all about it. Besides, the devs can't tell you very much anyway, they don't want to spoil the game or reveal features that didnt make it in because they would get heavily criticised. Sure, they could release a few more screenshots or videos or whatever, but its such a minor thing I don't see why you care so much - we don't have to wait that long.

What I am amazed with is...people tend to whine over these "little" things. Is your life so empty or what? In fact there are many (really) good Games for the PS3 right now, which got Platinum-Cheap...and they can easily fill the gap to GT5. I can wait, no problem.
I can only assume...there are people from Sony/PD standing behind those bitching guys here, pointing a gun to your heads and forcing you to wait and eventually buy it. If not, where is the problem with the XBOX360? Go on...buy it, F3 is coming this year and you can then play the definitive racegame of this generation.

Now I know where you guys are coming from, your happy with PD, and the GT franchise. Nothing wrong with that at all. Me I have an open mind and wallet so I play lots of games and can easily see which one offer the most for me. Sounds to me a bit like a kid that won't try anything new to eat for dinner, everything is crap besides Mac and cheese.

Listen Sunshine...good for you that you have an open mind and wallet, but there could be people out there which have an open mind but not an open wallet, like myself. I made a decision on time, XBOX360 or PS3.
I took the PS3 and i dont see why I should "risk" 300-500€ for something im (probably) not gonna happy with. Not everyone is swimming in money...you know?
