Gran Turismo 6 AI discussion

That was freaking amazing. I want AI like that!
Seeing what decisions they make over there to move the series forward, and how much of a relief FM4 was to me personally after all those years being a dedicated GT fan, i'll probably have a Xbone in my house in a year or 2. If they implement more content and day/night racing + a rally mode, FM6 will be paradise.

In some Gran Turismo 6 videos, the AI looks great. While in others, they are complete crap sometimes. That's how I'm seeing it so far.

I've only seen them blitz past the pack just like in GT5 so far, sometimes passing 2-3 cars in one corner. Only Jordan's video where he was having a little scramble with that FTO showed me different, but that is immediately on professional AI setting in arcade mode not in career...

How? "Racing in the pack" here's how.

rFactor 2 actually has, by far, the most competitive AI in next-gen recing sims.

A lot of GT Fanboys are going to think the sounds in the video straight from the game are overdubbed with real sounds:lol:

Johnny I think I heard a Hoover :P

That's the kind of AI I wanna see in all sim racing games. Not just rFactor.

I saw one of the Forza 5 AI do a brake check and troll in a vid - that's very human like in a way :)

Seriously human drivers are actually quite crappy based on my online races in GT5
And usually don't feel all that different to AI, apart from crashing out a lot more....
You will have a rabbit out in front most of the time..
Which surprised me a bit

This is typical of rooms that allow racing tires on street cars. I tell people all the time, the closer you are to the tire the car came with, the better the racing will be. Noobs tend to congregate to the RS tire rooms, better drivers looking for a more realistic experience tend to go to the Comfort/Sport tire rooms. I say tend because there are exceptions to every rule but I've found that to be the case and I'm rarely suprised.

Also, that Swift in the first video was lagging just so you know.

I dont mind the rubber banding in GT6... but its not implemented properly, as only once you pass them, that they turn into competitors, before that they are just moving obstacles...
I understand they want to make the GT series accesible to a wider audience so make it easier to win, as that makes most players happy.
You have 2 choices for a racing game:
1) Rubber Banding - which is easy to please people that just want to win (most of the time) EX: NFS
2) Difficulty Levels - This imho is the way to go, as it just makes competing fun, by selecting competitors of your own skill level so EX: F1 20'' '' (codemasters)
OR maybe better yet Having difficulty levels and introducing slight Rubber banding, not very noticeable just 2-5 tenths a lap.
How is this so hard to comprehend PD?
I think the AI is the only thing i complain about, as i just love racing and overtaking and defending your position.

Just saw this video; driving his Tesla around a R390 on the outside of the corner, and the other lame ducks don't put up one bit of challenge neither... this is a racing game? Reminds me of passing cars on the highway :ill:

One could argue that he set it to "super easy", as it is in arcade mode; but the guy can drive quite good so why would he do that?

No one knows tires or driving aids in these vids either. Noticeably lacking in almost all these leaker videos.
True, but even still on the straight he was like 3 seconds behind that R390 and in one braking zone he catches up and passes him, same with all the other 'opponents' in the other vids i saw so far; on the straights it's ok but as soon as there's braking involved they catch up 2-3 seconds each time. They can't all be sporting Racing Softs no :)

Anyway they probably had to program it like that, otherwise you would never be able to catch the rabbit before the end of the race.

I notice that the R390 is completely incapable of getting past the Q7 in front of it as well. Great AI there, no car that can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds should ever be stuck behind a Q7, no matter the tyres.

Guess we will have to see if it stays the same when the game is officially released.

That's the release version. That's what is being offically released.

What you mean is "we will have to see if it stays the same when the patch is released". That's the go-to excuse for any problems with the game now.

I see it as setting your own difficulty. Impatient people will just keep adding power upgrades until they can outrun the AI

There's PP restrictions in GT6 no? So that doesn't make sense as an excuse for all we have seen so far.

Not an excuse. I didnt say it would change. Keep the pessimistic outlook to yourself, I don't hold the same view as you so excuse me for trying to look for positives. The Fit doesn't need sports hard tires, nor srf or tc. I dont see any settings for the cars in most of these vids, which seems a little fishy imo. You dont see ai difficulty either.

I think it's the other way around. They put that rabbit out there, and start races with spaced, rolling, single file (with you at the back)- in order to mask the awful braking/throttle by the A.I.

The leadership at Polyphony are dropping the ball. They care about expanding the scope of GT and "the future". This is at the expense of racing focus, and "the now". This expense is going to cost them dearly.

Maybe i'm defying the point of it, but am i the only one racing competitively online only and that uses the ai races as challenges (using very low pp cars) or cash in?

For me as much a better AI is welcome what matters is having the best possible physic and behaviourso thtai can get even more fun when racing on the GTP series online :)

Pretty aggressive AI in one of the cars, A.Reyes
Who ended in in first.
Intermediate level it looks like

I'll be honest, I really don't care about the AI all that much. When I'm offline, I'm mostly hotlapping and tuning my car anyway. I go online when I want a race.
