Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3

Not sure why people are expecting GT6 this year, on any console. Gran Turismo 3, 4, and 5 were all announced well over a year before they released. That trend can change but I find it highly unrealistic to expect GT6 within 6 months after its announced, in this case E3 in June.
PD already stated that they're keeping silent about GT6 until right before launch this time, thus breaking the trend. Kazunori-san doesn't want the possibility of any delays post-announcement to cause more of that malarky and fan aggravation from before GT5.

So anything is possible.

You raise a good point.

In saying that, why does it matter how far out from release you announce a game? First thing that comes to mind is you miss out on getting the hype-train started early, but from certain comments Kaz has made after his experience with GT5, I think he'd be happy to release GT6 within a few months of announcing it.

What's the downside?

Less hype, precisely the thing Kaz wants to avoid.
I reckon Kaz could announce GT6 being available from tomorrow - and they'd sell a million copies by Friday. Such is the passion and awareness of the support base. Its a bit like fans of a rock group, lets say Metallica for example. The hype machine is only for casual enthusiasts or curious types. And we forgave James & Lars for St Anger (GT5). Okay we didn't really :banghead: but that did not hurt our enthusiasm for a new album - day one purchase.

I have a few doubts:

  1. The PS4 will be available by the end of 2013
  2. Polyphony Digital is known for pushing the boundaries and pursuing the latest technology
  3. As mr Yamauchi is also senior vice president of SCE he must have known for quite a while that a PS4 was in the pipeline
  4. Given the news regarding Polyphony Digital being involved in the development of the PS4, they must have had a good knowledge of the specifications and requirements of the new console, it's hard to believe that they haven't used that information to start developing a PS4 game
  5. GT6 has not been announced yet, which means that a release before the launch of PS4 is highly unlikely
  6. PD working on three separate titles at the same times (GT5 DLC and patches, GT6 for PS3, GT7 for PS4, possibly a fourth game with a GT title for the PS Vita?) does not seem very likely
  7. When people talk they make a lot more errors than when they write, especially in an interview when everything is an impromptu reply to the interviewer's questions. It's possible that the SCEE (!) senior vice president quoted in the article simply said the wrong thing and given that there were no follow-up questions about GT6 he may not even know that he said it. A source in which something is just mentioned in the periphery is not a very trust-worthy source.

What's in the periphery about this?

The question is in context of support for a soon to be replaced system. It doesn't get any clearer than that.

PD are working on GT6 and have been doing since before GT5 went gold. That is all. Patching and DLC work for GT5 is work for GT6. That's one game.

KAZ said no pre-release hype this time because he wasn't happy with people complaining about delays which were not really delays.

The Second game on a console, GT2, and GT4 are released late in the consoles lifetime. I had already bought a Sega Dreamcast and a copy of Soul Caliber before GT2 came out on the PS1. The PS2 was not far away at the time.

Maybe they are releasing it on PS3 in the best form they can make and then re-releasing it on PS4 in full effect?

Well think of it like this people… Didn’t Sony announce that the ps4 will be backwards compatible for ps3 games? I really don’t understand why, but I think that PD is going to hold out on GT6 until the release of the ps4. Sure they’re releasing it as a ps3 game, but maybe they’re trying to stay on the “safe” side of things since gt5′s initial conundrum release. (Metaphorically) It’s like they’re releasing gran turismo 2 (ps1 platform) for the ps2. More conservative if anything…

I hope it will be for PS3. Alot of people are all focused but the release of the PS4 has once again reminded what an amazing machine the PS3 is!

Sorry, did you just say thet the PS3 is amazing? Compared to what?

This is not a PS3 vs anything thread, please don't try and make it one.
I didn't, I just questioned his statement.

My point is that PS3 was amazing maybe 4 or 5 years ago, not today, which is why I still think that the only thing that makes sense is to release GT6 for PS4 and PS4 alone.

Has anyone actually thought that the PS4 won't come out in December? I'm sure they could make something up to bring it up later...as always

I think it would be kind of cool if they released the game on both consoles...kind of like how Diablo is being made. It would make sense for PD from a financial standpoint and help the PS4 push units out the door faster than you can say fire monkeys.

I WANT A GAME I DON'T CARE IS THAT PS3 OR PS4 GAME! I want new game it's simple...

Starting to feel like this too friend.

Just imagine... point-to-point courses on GT6 Course Generator, a premium Yellowbird... or El Capitain with new lighting...

That's enough for me.

It's in the periphery because they are not talking about Gran Turismo 6. They are talking about PlayStation, and GT6 is only briefly mentioned (name-dropped) as one of many titles coming to the PS3. This is a very weak source, I wouldn't place any bets based on it.

They could easily bring those things as DLC though. No reason for a new title with such small additions in my opinion.

I really miss El captain.

Why release as DLC in the end of GT5 life if you could save for a more interesting feature/content list on GT6?

I hope GT6 on the PS3 will be the GT5 we always wanted. Then, GT5 will just remain as a weird memory on our lovelly Gran Turismo brain section. Inside our hearts, it's what we want. A sweet taste to make us forget what went a bit wrong.

I love GT5, one of the games I played most in my life but GT6 will be much better.

Well, the PS3 is still amazing for me...

I think it was a little bit irresponsible from that guy from Sony to say GT6 would be a PS3 game... unless he's suggesting it will make it both for PS3 & PS4, like some PS2 & PS3 games like Madden or PES...

What's the difference? They could add features and content through updates and DLC.

You hope, but is it likely that it will be? Hardly I'd say, because the PS3 is still the same old PS3 as it was back when GT5 was released.

Ok, so what improvements will we see in GT6 if it's released on PS3? Better physics and AI perhaps, and then?

Personally I think if a Sony executive says this it would be pretty credible, the only argument I have is the video with the game developers and Yamauchi saying "The PS4 is like a blank canvas." So I would think he's doing something with that blank canvas for their next game which is why I would have assumed a PS4 release. I suppose he could mean for GT7 and GT6 is done now and they're just waiting. I doubt that. Unlikely, but hell anythings possible.

Agree, there has been no correction from Sony regarding the statement. I think it is pretty credible.

And why would I pay for them piecemeal at a much greater cost this late in GT5's life instead of waiting for GT6 if the chance exists it will come out on the system I already own?

Not a particularly large amount of GT5's problems had anything to do with the hardware it was on rather than the design choices it was developed under.

Uncharted 2 was improved from Uncharted on the same old hardware though.
