Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3

I don't see the logic in this. If GT5 wasn't the game we, or PD wanted it to be, how will GT6 do it on the same hardware restrictions?

Well, that's a fair question. For me, I think GT5 could be similar to GT3. It packed a small punch, small car list, and was over all underwhelming (for me, at least). Then GT4 came along, using the same "operating system" and increased the car count, manufacturer list, and in my opinion, an improve A-spec mode. I believe GT6 could be more like GT4, the second title on a single platform and vastly enhanced over its predecessor.

GT4 was one of the best looking games on the PS2. I have no doubt GT6 can look even better.

As far as "How can GT6 be the game we wanted if we're using the same hardware restrictions?"....a lot more can still be done. There can't be a livery editor included in GT6 on the PS3? Brand new manufacturers can't be added to GT6 on the PS3? More tracks with night time or even weather modes can't be added to GT6 on the PS3? A longer, more developed and more social-based A-spec mode cannot be added to GT6 on the PS3?

I'm sure we'll see a GT on the PS4, and it may eventually be a GT6 version after some time, but the PS3 is more than capable of producing a better GT game. But it's up to PD, truly. They create the game. And have they listened to fans' advice/criticism?

Because it wasn't disappointing because of hardware restrictions, it was disappointing due to (particularly initially) glitches, "standard" models, poorly thought out UI and options, and lack of content (favourite tracks ommitted, not enough events)

All of these can easily be addressed on PS3, by building on the existing engine and adding content on the disc. It's a no-brainer and I don't really understand why many seemingly would prefer it's skipped on PS3 and goes straight to PS4, when it seems more likely (and logical) for PD to release GT7 for the PS4 further down the line with hopefully some awesome new features and ideas.

Don't expect faster load times or smooth shadows.

I understand exactly what you're implying. I mean, it would be the ideal situation if GT6 had been in the works for the PS4 since 2010. But I think it's becoming clearer that it's just not the case. Whether that's "better" or "worse" is dependent on the person.

I actually don't believe it'll be too too long before a PS4 GT title....I'd estimate one by 2015 (only assuming they've had the dev kit since late 2011).

Still, when the smokes clears, the second GT title on the same platform has truly outperformed its predecessor, and even looked better (in my humble opinion).

I think GT6 for the PS3 will be the game we were hoping for in GT5.

I like the idea of DriveClub being a launch or near launch title on the PS4. I imagine that PD didn't receieve the PS4 dev kit too long ago (maybe late 2011- early 2012), thus, the "blank canvas" comment. I'd not expect GT7 until probably 2015ish on the PS4.

Patience is a virtue! At least we'll be getting another GT title in the near future.

My wife just bought me a pretty white SS PS3 with a 2 year warranty, replacing YLOD Fat PS3. I'm set for a couple of years.

2 GT games 12 month apart is un heard of ,The thing is no one know what PD have in store for next gen.will it be a complete re model of the physics engine,a re model of cars, tracks etc?

To be honest I was mainly using it to illustrate the earliest that a GT title on the PS4 would make sense from a financial point of view for Sony and PD.

I don't actually expect one that early and that adds to the reasons why a new title on the PS3 would make sense.

My thoughts excatly.

Assuming the PS4 sells similar to the PS3,

Let me stop you on that assumption alone. There has been no indication that the cost of the PS4 console, will be anywhere near the original cost of either of the PS3 consoles, even prior to inflation calculations, it is likely the PS4 will be cheaper "not because of a source" but because of common sense, they've announced no super expensive technologies in this console, and they would prefer to make the console as price competitve as possible to make it sell.

there won't be any launch consoles left regardless of a GT title or not. As Scaff alluded to earlier, launch consoles tend to sell out. Why waste GT6 on a smaller, already satisfied audience?

There's this concept, it might interest you, it's called longevity, you see, when they release a new game on a new console, the new console tends to sell better 'beyond' its initial launch interest. Sure, the first couple of batches of consoles will sell quick, but what then? Drive Club is going to make us all forget our PS3 and GT5? Is that really the angle you're going with here? Oh wait you didn't say that never mind, I'll stop drawing my own conclusions, I have no idea what you meant beyond what you said.

As others have said anyway, there's no reason why 'company whoever' wouldn't initially release drive club, then within a year, PD release GT6.
My biggest gripe, is people pretending a PS4 GT7 is a sure thing, due to nothing with no confirmation from anyone else from either Sony or PD themselves, which is madness.

Funny, not that I said this at all, but you must be equally disappointed with people hoping for GT6 on PS3 then? Equally confirmed? No?

Well, if we think about it for a moment, its most likely GT7 will be a PS4 title, its even more likely than GT6 frankly, here's why I think so, not that I said its a sure thing as you seem to have read into... but its pretty much a sure thing imo for the following reasons.

1. Scenario A, PD release GT6 on PS3, GT7 may be a way away, but unless they entirely skip over the PS4 console or go bust, their next number after 6 is... 7. So what else are they going to do? Release it on PS3 or PS5?

2. Scenario B, PD wait and release GT6 on PS4. They've been working on this thing for 2-3 years now, assuming they start on GT7 shortly after GT6 is released, what are the chances of it being on PS4 instead of PS5? I would say the odds are on the PS4 here as well.

So despite accusing me of saying, virtually what I just said when I hadn't said it yet, it's not an illogical position at all now is it?

...if they put GT6 on PS3 they'll have to restart the whole thing again for GT7 on PS4, which is just so illogical...

While it makes the most sense for GT6 to be released with/soon after the PS4, I do hold the possibility that it'll be released on PS3, ...despite the fact [GT6 will] be cheaper for me to buy, ...I [therefore] won't buy a PS4 until GT7 then, which could be until 2018. [In Scenario A where GT6 is released on PS3, I have no incentive to purchase a PS4 until a new GT is on that console, afaik, considering I am primarily a PC gamer, and use my PS3 for virtually nothing other than GT5]

So a GT-less PS4 should sell even better then the GT-less PS3 did.

How far after launch did GT5 release? I wonder if the PS3 has longevity issues.....

GT6 on PS3 I think that it is a good move but I just hope it isn't a washed out pile of poop so they can release a PS4 version with more features in 12 or 18 months. I am confused why they haven't done a Vita GT game.

Has anyone tried getting in touch with Amar212 about this GT6 on PS3 rumour? As I recall, Amar212 had all the info on GT5 over a year before its release. Thanks.

Correct. I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but it naturally should sell better, IF it's at more competitive price point than $800/$1000 - which it bloody ought to be.

You have two pieces of information there, and they aren't actually matching up. Firstly, far too long after launch, I think both the game and the PS3 would've sold better had PD done a better job, delivered 80-90% of what they did, as it stands they were probably 2-3 years too late, it would've proped up the PS3 sales at the time (a reasonable time imo would've been 2007/08), and by 2010/11 they could've had GT6 out, possibly early 2012, giving them from another 2-3 years from then to release a GT7 on PS4 as a near launch title. That would've been the ideal scenario, however due to the small size of PD coupled with the PS3s extremely hard to program mentallity AND its huge ram limitations, we got 1 game 5 years after the console was released.

With talks of the PS4, naturally the PS3 (thank gods) will finally be put to death, soon, I love mine, but its such an old timer by now, it belongs in a museum, not taking on new games.

If the 2+2 you're indicating has something to do with GT5 and PS3, I don't really see it, by the end of this year if we have a PS4, GT5 would've had a good life of 3 years, roughly right, not too long or too short, 2 years would be too short and 5 being too long, imo.

You're kidding right? Reject that thought from your mind. The best selling game on PS3 not coming to PS4, will NOT sell more PS4's EVER. Kaz is a very big wig in SONY's PlayStation division. Thinking GT will not ever come to PS4 is juvenile. And it won't be a THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! It'll be $299 - $499. SONY cant afford the screwup they had with the PS3 launch.

I'm kidding? You think I'm kidding? Let me see if I understand you 'the-best-selling-game-on-ps3' you mean series don't you? 'not-coming-to-ps4' I didn't say GT isn't coming to PS4... quite the opposite I'm hoping for GT6 on PS4 'will-NOT-sell-more-PS4's-EVER', no, see, you're missing it, I'm saying that the best selling series 'WILL' sell more PS4s.

Well I'd hardly say its juvenile, its actually quite possible; "unfortunately" I just prefer the scenario where GT6 comes/exclusively to the PS4. I'd hardly go as far as to call all the people who want/think it will be on PS3 juvenile, that's just not cricket mate.

$1000? No, again, you're missing it, that was the price of the original PS3 in Australia, the best PS3 (my brother bought one new, retail, at launch) was $1000, the lesser console of the time was $800. I agree, I would like the PS4 to cost less, and am hoping it does, due to no new technologies, hopefully incidating a cheaper manufacturering cost, and wanting to be more competitive.

Again, in agreement here, I seriously think the PS4 launch is a big ticket to Sony, not a company make or break but still a big deal, all of which points to holding up on GT6 until the PS4 is launched, then making GT6 a PS4 game...

EDIT: Were you trying to quote me or someone else?

A GT6 on the PS4 may sell more "early" consoles, but it doesn't necessarily mean that releasing GT6 early would lead to better overall PS4 sales in its lifespan. A franchise like GT can help console sales in any time of the generation. Console sellers isn't limited to just launch sales.

As of now, we should probably forget all this GT6 launch talk for the PS4. I think it's safe to assume that DriveClub will handle the racing genre for early PS4 units.

Personally, if that's the case, I'd rather that we get GT6 for PS3 then. If GT6 won't be an early title, that means late 2014 and beyond for the PS4. I just want a new GT game sooner than that.

Some people still don't understand how badly Australia gets screwed over for prices on these things. Our dollar has been more or less at parity with the US for years now, and yet prices are still exactly the same as when it was 70 cents to the dollar. RRP for new games = $80-90.

As has been said, PS3 WAS $1000 at launch, and a 3g Vita was $445 from memory. They very well could do the same for PS4. PS4 will need some very high profile launch titles to be worth anyone's time in Australia.

Dang Imari, how can you live like that! I hope wages are inflated to counter inflated taxes and costs of goods? One thing governments can't seem to grasp is that companies don't pay taxes or fees or minimum wage increase costs or import taxes and fees, their customers do.

You realise by the time it comes out (in fact, even now) the PS4 will be an "old timer" technologically speaking?

I've been following GT6 discussion on neogaf and Amar said he really doesn't know and he is surprised as we are with the possibility of a PS3 GT6.

Can this be taken into account? And remember, I did say that Australia get's screwed over on other things, not just video games. Brazil, games cost +120-150 USD, only according to what this one person told me.

Not trying to be a jerk, but when you factor in what my post explains, shouldn't it be taken seriously? Facts...Do the searches yourself if you don't believe me.

Because GT5 (to me) was disappointing despite it's hardware limitations, not because of it.

Putting GT6 on PS4 won't fix A-Spec or the paint "system"
And don't even mention the 🤬 invisible walls. Those 'force fields' are what made me almost return the game on release day. And if they find their way into Willow Springs - I'll be gutted :yuck:

Brazil gets screwed over worse than Australia, and I'm aware of the fact. Minimum wages don't tell the whole story of comparative national economies. A lot of the lowest paid jobs in the US have tips associated with them, and so are not actually as lowly paid as they would appear. Australia doesn't have a tipping culture. I wouldn't be surprised if average wages weren't exactly relative to minimum wages either, but I don't actually care enough to research it because this is getting pretty off topic.

Don't get me wrong, it's not as bad as the numbers would have you believe, but Australians are still paying more for the same goods. Assuming all this electronics guff is made in China, it probably costs the same or less to ship to Australia than the US. There's not really any good reason for it to cost more here other than it's essentially a monopoly and they can charge whatever people will pay.

That's capitalism for you, and any smart company will charge the maximum it can get away with in any given region. It is what it is. But it doesn't mean that people have to enjoy it. It's still going to feel like Sony's bending me over if the PS4 comes out in AU for $200 more than the US equivalent.

I believe you guys are missing a few things.

#1. I believe current gen GT games are made in-house on high performance PC’s at next gen resolutions, and then downscaled for this gens hardware when ran on dev-kits (Photomode for vehicular evidence). So there could be a PS4 ver. of GT5 that could already be at next gen res. on PD’s PC as we speak for all we know that is still in it’s unfiltered full res form. So taking GT5 vehicles, removing the menu's and other uneccessary features & functions but keeping/using the current car models (photomode/unchopped versions) and content and transferring them over to GT6 and implementing new features around it in a timely manner may easily be possible.

#2. “GT6 will have so many tracks that it will make your hat fall off your head”. I can’t fathom that every track scanned for GT5/GT6 will have to be revisited to be rescanned again (unless some major changes are made IRL), so the 3D modelling data must be held in house on PC’s and texture mapping is likely to be compiled afterwards which isn’t as difficult to implement as actually as scanning/compiling data on world courses all over again. Again, making GT6 for more easily possible. All that would be needed is a higher resolution texture mapping to the 3D track mapping wireframe data. (In theory)

[“The amount of (tracks) will be such that will make a hat fall off your head.”

“Hat falling off your head” is common way to say how you will be amazed by something.

Representatives from Polyphony Digital have, of course, already been spotted at the Bathurst circuit, scanning and photographing it for Gran Turismo 6.]

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-6-rumored-to-include-large-number-of-tracks/

#3. Just because other 1st party dev’s are just getting their hands on certain dev-kits, doesn’t mean that PD may not have gotten “green light treatment” on a PS4 dev-kit years in advanced. Who knows how long Sony may have had general specs for the PS4 in the pipeline. They say dev’s helped them shape what the PS4 would be today and maybe PD was one of those dev’s, working on GT6 all along the way for PS4 and relaying to Sony the requirements needed to meet the demands of the game/vision he/they were trying to create. And being one of their highest selling flagship franchises with one of the most dedicated and true fan base following, Sony, who didn’t want to disappoint… delivered… Now does that sound believable to you? No? Yeah? Well it does to me…

#4. Kaz has stated numerous times that the PS3 isn’t really suited to what he’s doing with the Gran Turismo series at this stage.

Does anyone else think that GT6 will be what GT5 should have been?

Because its such a quiet development so far, so they probably don't have much to brag or talk about.

Being far away from the release date, bragging and talking about it would be a bad idea as implemented features could be stolen by competitors. Better to remain quiet until they are closer to the drop. They're being wise about it. Also, the backlash following all the info given on GT5 prior to it's release date served as a lesson for them not to repeat the same mistake twice.

Being optimistic, GT6 on PS3 might explain the lack of DLC on GT5, and the real lack of originality in the seasonal events, they might have kept everything good for GT6 (a dream?); anyway, I would be happy not to wait so long for the next GT, so on PS3 would be good news (and makes perfect sense); I like this game so much, but I am so bored by the bad seasonal events that repeat themselves, and more generally by the lack of events in the game; the number of cars, tracks, ... is already great, but it is difficult to find something to do with them (and online is not well organized); having this corrected is enough for me to buy GT6, and is better than almost useless new DLC with one track or 3 cars

I think so, too. Lack of DLC and Spec III indicates GT6 around the corner for me. Both would've been great to coincide with the GT5 anniversary end of 2012 and even more with the anniversary of the whole franchise.
