Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3

Did any GTPlanet staff get invited?
Yes, I have been invited and will be attending the event. I'll be providing full coverage on GTPlanet, capturing any new gameplay footage that might be available, and there will be a live-stream from Silverstone as well. :)

Great news! 👍 Both good for us, because we know we'll be getting the information from somebody asking the 'right' questions. And good, in general, for GTP, that it's being recognized.

Oh boy! I so can't wait. :D

So there will be a live-stream then. Smashing. :D

YES!!! W00T! :D Things just got more exciting!

Not to start the comparions again, but Forza 4 seems to make much better use of the 360's identical RAM than GT5 does, most likely because it is a newer game.

Yes, and your car is the only one that makes any sound in replays in Forza 4, and boy, does it roar. In one make races they can use the same samples, but I've noticed in my playing of a week or two ago that even then, your car is distinctly louder on screen. This has been true of certain racing games such as Toca 3. "Sound effects" are one thing, but long drawn out samples like accelerating engines have to sit in the available ram to be on hand when needed, and they have to be carefully matched, and that's not a small matter.

That is dedication right there 👍. Will anyone else from GTPlanet staff be attending? Also who will be providing the live stream? There also looks to be the GT5 Academy Edition competition going on the same day going by this post (Link). Shaping up to be a very exciting day for all of us who are interested in GT 👍.

I'm not convinced by this...

...in my clip above, while my car (the ITR) is indeed quite dominant, the sounds samples for the cars that pass me during and after the crash can clearly be heard.

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍 :)

Make better use of LOD changes for cars at different distances (because that car 500m behind you really needs to be fully detailed). Minor changes that the majority would not notice, but more than possible.

Wait you want them to make the LOD changes even worse? hah They're already painfully obvious in replays, completely takes away from the realism factor when a car suddenly pops into greater detail, if anything it needs to be INCREASED to a greater distance, let's face it the PS3 can't handle everyone's expectations, simple as that.

Actually, this is what I experienced too. I did state that the other cars were inaudible, which is true of Toca. I meant to say that they make generic sounds Specifically, my cars always sound like there's a racing muffler installed no matter if it's a VW Beetle or whatever. The other cars are somewhat muffled and generic sounding, except in one-make races when my car is off camera.

I had wondered if T10 might have made an update to use more compressed samples to change this, but from your clip it sounds like they haven't.

Message boards are notorious for creating misunderstandings. :P

What he's saying, which I've stated too, is that PD needs to manage these resources better, which isn't necessarily making them sound or look worse. Some have said that dropping resolution to 720p is a terrible idea, and I used to think so too. But mulling it over, and watching the wonderful replays be marred too many times by glitchy shadows, particle effect jaggies, tearing and slowdown, I think PD should cull Cell resources everywhere they can, and rewrite game code when it can work better. If they make GT6 on PS3 in this shape, I'm going to plead every day for a PS4 version.

Could be but I've been in a Caterham at Silverstone and they just used the Stowe circuit which doesn't use any of the main circuit so multiple events can take place concurrently.

I do hope all circuits will be modelled at Silverstone. There are at least 4 and there is also a short rally circuit there I had a track day on. Flat and a mixture of shale and mud. Lots of fun. Maybe the go kart track we saw in gtacademy programme?

shale? mud? Silverstone? I I really hope I can bring my RM Subaru to the new game. That sounds like fun

Can you say anything about the duration of the event?
No, I don't know anything about the exact times or duration. Other than the travel arrangements and logistics, details of what will actually be happening at Silverstone are very scarce, even for those of us who have been invited.

It's just me. Sony will be providing the live stream, I presume via Ustream. I'll have it embedded here, as well.

Any secret info Kaz gives you, you know who to tell. *nudge nudge* ;) :sly:

That is most excellent.👍

Surprised Synwraith is not attending as he usually seems quite involved in these kind of events. Also surprised that Famine is not attending being GTPEDIA author, encyclopedia of GT information at 15th GT Anniversary event would make quite a lot of sense to allow. Must be quite a limit on media then, if only one can attend. Great that they are doing a live stream, more exciting to keep track of event than just live text feed.

Ah right, its just that you said "....your car is the only one that makes any sound in replays in Forza 4....", rather than mention the quieter sounds. It seemed like you were saying the other cars made no noise at all.

Replays are one thing, but during driving are you really in favour of increased LOD for a car 200+ meters behind you over a more stable (or locked) frame rate a v-sync to get rid of tearing?

As TD and I have said, PD could optimise the engine in a number of ways that would have minimal practical effect on the visuals, yet improve the game no end.

To clarify, Synwraith will be part of the organizational staff - I'll be the only one there in an editorial/media capacity. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Famine will be able to attend with me.

I don't know if it was already posted but

Aston Martin Vanquish 2013

It looks like a Vanquish under the blanket but the bonnet doesn't quite match.

Or they could develop GT6 for PS4 and not have to make any more sacrifices, sounds ideal to me.

So there will be Live Streaming of the event? Thank the gods. Both the old, and the new :).

Would be an odd time to feature the Vantage on there, as Aston has just taken the Vantage V12 out of production. Those evil bastards :(.

The first picture is a perfect match. Yours is from a slightly different perspective hence the non-fitting bonnet.

Dude, I am totally and completely in your camp, but this decision is being made by SONY, so we'll take what we can get.

Even if the NexBox is weaker than PS4, which is possible, it will be vastly superior to PS3 and most gaming PCs for that matter. A GT6 on PS3 will be facing a more luxuriously decked out Forza 5 on Box-X. It won't have ram limitations to speak of, or GPU limits to speak of, or lack of processor horsepower to speak of. They could load the near-perfect engine, turbo/super, tranny and tire sounds for perhaps 50 different vehicles without complaint. Perhaps 24 to 32 car models in race with user made liveries. Impeccable race locations, perhaps with weather and time of day transitions, and gorgeous night lighting, with just about every visible car casting its own headlight gleam. No framerate dips or graphic glitches, I'm assuming, considering what's possible on PCs running at 120fps.

GT6 on PS3 will hold it's own sales wise, but it will sure seem much smaller, and older, even compared to the sandbox racer Drive Club. It's going to have to be squeezed in to that PS3, and I'm going to be praying the world holds together long enough for me to enjoy the real Gran Turismo on PS4.

Along those lines, I still believe GT6 will be on all three Sony Platforms.

As far as the "world holding together", I can't help you with specifics but I can tell you things on this planet are unraveling at a rapid pace as almost as if it was birth pangs...

Don't you guys think it is possible that GT6P or something of that nature will be PS3 and then the full game for PS4?

If they make it for PS3 and then simply port it to PS4 im afraid it won't truly be a PS4 game. In fact, I wouldn't want GT6 to be a launch game for PS4, because early new console games never make full use of the system's power. Look at PS3 games from 2007 or so...they look pretty bad by today's standards. Also, look at games using PS2 engine that ended up being on PS3, like GTA 4 or Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion...they look abysmal by PS3 standards.

If you want the "real" GT for Ps4 you're going to have to wait awhile.
