Gran Turismo 7 Rumored as PlayStation 5 Launch Title

Could there be a GT Sport for PS5 even before an actual GT7? Usually PD takes longer to make the jump and I too think it's too soon. Kind of a way to avoid alienating the PS4 players while still providing a tempting exclusive for newcomers to Sony's console.

I don't think its going to be all that different in terms of coding since the device will be very similar. I'd vote for the GT7 paired with PS5 launch to safeguard whatever Xbox can com with. GT7 will just be a bulked up version of GT Sport.

2020 seems too soon for Gran Turismo 7. 2021 or 2022 as @Castrol96 said seems more reasonable. Besides, I’m not ready to fork up $500+ for a new console. I’d like to enjoy GT Sport for a little while longer especially knowing they’ve been constantly adding fresh content with more to come.
What you’re ready for or not is of minor importance. PS5 is coming and people who buys it will want quality exclusives to go with it. Besides, Gran Turismo is one of Sony’s best selling franchises so I figure they’ll want to release GT7 as early as possible to sell more consoles.

I agree. It’d be a smart choice marketing wise for Sony. But just going by PD’s past, they seem to take more time with their titles so they don’t feel rushed once released. But maybe the new hardware of the PS5 will make development of the game much easier and faster.

Even though PD have had a habit of delaying games, the jump from PS4 to PS5 isn't as big as the jump from PS3 to PS4, so there may not be as many problems. PD have already proved that GT Sport can run on a PS5 devkit, which is a good starting point to build from.

PD should bring a new game out for the PS5 as a launch title, because the offline stuff is nothing to :) about like the GT League in GTS. GT Sport and GT7 can work because GTS will have online stuff like the Daily races etc. GT7 will have a Career Mode for players that like to play offline, and then sometime in 2021 GT7 will take over from GTS.
So having two racing games from PD is better than one when the PS5 comes out, because having a Career mode in one game and the other one for online racing will make fans very happy, and GTS is a nothing game when it comes to offline racing.

I seriously doubt that. Gran Turismo is a very stable franchise and a money cow for Sony. Releasing such a game in the early launch stages of the console, means you will a lot of revenue, simply because you will not sell 10 million copies of the game when you can only sell 15 million console units in the first year. It’s a racing game, and racing games don’t sell consoles as good as other types of games. They will want to postpone the release of a brand new Gran Turismo until the PS5 market share is big enough.

I can see a GT Sport XL version happening, but not a full new iteration of Gran Turismo. It costs too much.

Yeah it is but whether GT7 will be a launch title remains to be seen. For now though, I think it's unlikely they'll release it this year but who knows.

If PD puts off a new game for this year, I believe more players will give up on GTS, because of the offline part of the game and play other games until a new racing game comes out.
Do you like to see 2 racing games from PD on PS5 one for online and the other with a offline career mode which you can enjoy.

Of course they'll shut down servers for the outgoing game months after the new title has been released. And I'm not sure they'll have two racing games released at the same time for the console.

GT Sport is going to be just over 3 years old at the time of release of the PS5 because of backwards compatible, and GT7 on PS5 a whole new racing game from PD. I think it would be good if PD had 2 games on PS5, fans will be happy to play online on GTS and on GT7 will have a lot better Career Mode for players that want to play offline.

Oh I see. I thought you're talking about GT Sport being released again for the PS5, which is redundant because of backwards compatibility.

I mean 3 years should be enough time to make another GT(7) title.
Also why people are concerned that they will be not ready for this.

Yeah, this next game seems like it'll be a doozie. Human drama, past, present & future past, some kind of Sport/Arcade/Campaign/Career Modes, car library, livery editor, museum, time trial, maybe a new Lewis Hamilton DLC, FIA seasons, Scapes/Fly by photos(maybe we will be able to take photos in the demo screens, with cars driving around in the Scapes), Lobby, Discover feature, maybe Mileage Exchange/GT Auto, VR, Custom Race. It's ain't going to be easy to slap together this next game.

Add in the new staff. Getting them up to speed. Factor in content that may not make it in game at launch. There's so much to think about, add, delete, conceptualize.

Just because PDI started on the next game when GT Sport dropped, they've been busy.

That's only average I guess although I believe it will start to take longer than that.
Just over 3 years with the technology that PD have, is enough time to get a new game out. While playing GT Sport on PS5, PD can release GT7 with a decent career mode and that all they got to do, and then add things like a online Sport Mode later when GTS server shutdown :) .

Well, I hope they do and they wouldn't screw up.

The content we get for GT Sport is the next 1 or 2 months should be an indicator for how close we actually are.

If new content dries out somewhat theat could mean that it´s all hands on deck at PD for GT next.

The question reamins if whatever is next is indeed GT7 or just a next gen continuation of GT Sport.

I suspect it will be the latter, a high frame-rate version of GT Sport with ray-tracing (and therefore potentially dynamic lighting / time of day changes) to show off the PS5´s capabilities.

That I believe could be out close to the PS5´s launch.

In terms of outright performance the jump from PS4 to PS5 will be bigger than PS3 to PS4.

Graphical detail and fidelity won’t improve greatly. That will be limited to relatively simple things like higher LOD car models, higher resolution textures etc.

The generational leap will be CPU & SSD. Those are the areas that will arguably benefit a racing title more than most genres. These past few gens it’s been a real struggle for devs to hit a locked 60fps, with large grids, good AI, dynamic time of day/weather.

The good news is these are features that are relative easy to take advantage of with the new hardware. As opposed to the time consuming need to remodel all their cars & tracks.

Plus, of course. Architecturally, PS5 is very similar to PS4.

A hundred bucks or even $200 will not sway my decision to buy a PS5 but what will decide is the release date of the next GT. I only buy the latest counsel when the newest GT is released. I have done the same since the original PS and Gran Turismo. At least the very first GT was not late as far as I knew, I knew nothing about GT until it was on the shelf and someone told me it was a fantastic game. :D

The price of the PS5 or PS5 Pro will not be a deciding factor for me as well. When GT7 is released that will be the day I buy the PS5 most likely.
However if the PS5 makes loading times for GTS much faster and the graphics are noticeably better then I will buy a PS5 the day its released. Still waiting on Sony to release all the Information/Specs for the PS5 before I can really make that determination.

So Kaz talking a target of 240fps for next GT title.
No.

Yamauchi did not specifically refer to any timeline or any game. This is a target for the future, but there's no reason to assume it's the next game (or even the one after).

The "improvement" will be worth nothing if standard cars are coming back in the next GT title.

Sure....so their ultimate target is 120fps per eye, being a VR requirement. Maybe not ps5 or GT7, but that is where we will end up one day.

Was beginning to doubt GT7 would be a PS5 launch window title. I’d been told definitively it was due in the latter half of 2021.

But given Kaz’s statement today. Plus the familiarity between PS4 & PS5 architecture. I’m back to thinking Sony & PD are targeting the PS5 launch window.

So there's sort of an announcement already as to when it might be released?
