Oh no, just went to watch it again and noticed this.

"Internet required for footage and features shown." Are we going to have a GT Sport situation where there is not much game without being connected to the internet! 🤔 And if so, the game may be severely hampered in the future when servers get turned off. :irked:
:banghead:

I hoped that was just a GT Sport thing because it was built around the online racing aspect, and to deter cheating. I lost a load of designs from a server glitch, not sure I want to put loads of time into car designs again to rely on their servers again. 🙄

If I promise never to race online can I have a game that just installs and works on my console please! ;)

Don't get me wrong, I agree the AI should be much better, but for one reason or another AI has never been a focus for PD. Gran Turismo will never be ACC and vice versa.

Frustrates me that they can't do both, but GT has always felt like more of a "driving" game with a focus on the cars themselves, rather than a hardcore racer. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depends how you see it), GT7 doesn't look set to break that trend...
You don't have to be a "hardcore racer" to have the option for challenging AI.

Underwhelming?? More like overwhelming. The brand new as well as returning cars, the world cricuits and original GT tracks, an expansive career mode, car modifications, more Scape features... PD has me sold. IMO this instalment may just live up like its original predecessors.

The music rally looks absolutely hilarious. I reckon you can potentially make some funny replays out of it.

I, on the other hand, wonder, how do you enjoy playing offline. For us who only play online, I hope it's not a disappointment. And I hope it is possible to put the bop.
I just like it.I'm not a pro-driver and will never be.I've heard/read that the "no pro is out" if i bump into another player they will kick me out, just because i'm not a "pro" .In my eye's that's intolerant for new players. Will everyone kick out a newbie that's just maybe 12+ year's old or what?I'm almost 52 and not a "pro" got my driving right's at 1993 in feburary.Winter, bald tyres no studded tires or snow/ice chains and an automatic rearwheel old volvo 745 (estate wagon) snow, ice and all that.Try it and reply if you want....I've lost my licens due to glaukoma witch mean's i'll be blind.Don't judge off-liner's please I can give me self a 💩 so you don't need to......

Ikr!?! I was expecting something like a free roam, more driver customization, suits, helmets, etc. Heck at least ONE new track.

The trailers presentation, it's a 7.5/8 I don't know maybe actually closer to just a 7. I'm excited and underwhelmed at the same time! 😅
I doubt free roam would ever come to Gran Turismo!

Going further through the video a second time, it shows the start of a Sunday Cup race at Northern Isle where the first AI car isn't even visible then the second race at Goodwood the next AI car is about 20 car lengths ahead, god knows how far away 1st it.

So yes, catch the rabbit rolling roadblocks gameplay very much confirmed. Not interested.

If all YOU see here is underwhelming or terrible, that is a shame.

I see GTS: Director's Cut. I see nothing to confirm Kaz saying that the AI has 'improved' (though I am trained to ignore his comments about anything in his games considering his habit of lying by omission) and by this point, if Kaz wants casual racing game players to become 'car people' they're going to have to do a lot more to get people hooked when they are actually racing, which means actually putting work into the AI instead of tweaking one or two variables and calling it a day. I see the same car list as GTS at end of life, alongside 70 new cars, and no new tracks at this very moment.

I can very much say that what I see here is underwhelming.

I'm excited for the Custom Races with selectable grid part. That for me is the make or break feature of this game. If you think about it, it can create endless opportunities for content creators, which in turn drives more people to the game.

I think this may be the first GT game I don't preorder. Going against the grain here with my point-of-view but I wasn't impressed with what they had to showcase with the presentation. With how many assets were reused (not taking points off for that, happens all the time with game development), it's clear now that GT Sport was the real GT7 Prologue in disguise all along and this is what we're getting nine years after GT6's release.

They'll have to show more content for me to consider purchasing it, and I don't mean extra cars and courses. I can't speak for the gameplay challenges yet, like the License Tests and Mission Races since we don't have the game yet, but otherwise it seems to be the same dead-wood AI programming they keep reusing from GT5. The only two new features/content they showcased, I have neutral opinions about:
  • Music Rally is just the Sierra Time Rally special event from GT6, but reworked to function on any course. That's interesting and all, but to make that work, instead they used specific music tracks you select from and use the number of beats that track has as your time limit. Otherwise, it seems to be the same deal: Drive as far as you can to get the best score.
  • Music Replay shouldn't have been showcased at all. Looked unfinished; I found it perplexing to identify what makes it so unique as a "feature" when it's just changing the camera to the beat of the music. By comparison, Gran Turismo 3 and 4 have their own "Music Replay" with more dramatic and frequent camera changes and also filter effects. Here, unless it's customizable, it just cuts to different camera angles every 4th or 8th beat. Not exciting at all, certainly not worth showcasing.
I'll give them credit where it's due for time-of-day and dynamic weather fully functioning on the PS4. That probably took quite a lot of testing and development to get it working; we're even getting a Weather Radar added to the MFD, something that came out of left field. Car customization is at its full here, with custom parts, a rainbow of colors, an enhanced Livery Editor, tuning your cars with parts again and now what seems like engine swaps. All interesting, but the bulk of the game seems disappointing so far.

Will be holding off on pre-ordering let alone purchasing until more information comes out.

That does look really cool. I3 in an FXXK possible?
No, I don't think.

Porsche and VW are into the same brand manufacturers group. So I think, You will be able to swap engines from the same manufacturer or a family close one, examples: Porsche/VW/Audi or Lexus/Toyota.

But at this moment, we now nothing more, so...

The sound example where the player was parked on the side of the road had the leader more than halfway up the straight to Turn 3 at Red Bull Ring while third place wasn't at Turn 1 as well

Well that was a pretty expected mixed bag.

Positives:
Looks great
Time and weather seems well done
Solid collection of cars
Customisation looks in depth

Negatives:
Well, they seem to have almost forgotten it's a racing game. The presentation focused way too much on looking at cars in one way or another.
Astonishing that their biggest new features are indeed music rally and music replays. I mean, consider myself whelmed.
They spent about 20 seconds on the career mode and 0 seconds on AI. Shows you where their priorities are and clearly there is nothing new to say about career.
Confirmed 0 new to the series tracks at launch.

I'll buy it but I'm not in a hurry. Maybe in 6 months with some updates.

Quick Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Looks great on PS5
  • Tuning is back and looks deep
  • Scapes look great as does photomode
  • Circuits actually look alive for a GT title
  • Weather and time of day return
  • Single-player back (GTS wasn't a proper single player)
  • Car showrooms, Legend Cars, Used Cars looks to have the expected polish and depth
  • Haptics for controller users
  • Car Cafe looks interesting
Cons
  • Understeering cars do not vibrate the front tyres - stop this nonsense
  • Weather progression, while great for GT, is behind the likes of PC and AMS
  • Music Rally - I just don't get it
  • No details on AI changes, and they don't look greatly improved
  • RAces - still chase the rabbit?
  • No PS4 footage yet
Great summaries. That covers most of the stuff I was going to say, just to add a few of mine:

  • Not a fan of inflating the price of old JDM cars. IRL it's because these cars are rare, but in game there are no limits on quantity. It's just more grinding to do.
  • They still haven't explained if UCD refresh every in-game day, or every actual real life day.
  • Brand central looks lifted straight off GTS.
  • Drag racing looks very bare bones. No burnout/tire temp prep and no staging. It's like having F1 race without pitstops or NASCAR without drafting. What's the point?
  • Still no tune sharing. Kaz explained it's because you may have different parts installed - then just include the parts list in the shared data as well!
  • Still no 24h or rain on all tracks.
  • Music replay/rally - if this is the best new feature they can come up with, well, I've got nothing to say. It's basically Sierra Time Rally with music. Real creative PD.
  • Still don't know if replay controls are improved (e.g. slow mo, fast forward instead of skip by 10 seconds).
  • Career mode, AI, car sounds, damage and physics looks much the same (meanwhile they spent ages talking about weather/stars simulation - and Driveclub still does it better).
  • Lots of talk about PS5 Dualshock, but not steering wheel improvements (didn't even namedrop Fanatec GT DD Pro).
  • No talk about Sport Mode, whether FIA championships return, improvements in DR/SR (will they carry over?), penalties and points system.
  • No mention of detailed telemetry like GT6.
  • No course generator/creator :(
  • HUD still looks non-customizable.

Now moving on to the good:
  • Rain radar and the wetness indicator seems to be instantaneous (i.e. based on the part of the track you're driving and not whole track average).
  • Puddles and drying line (though if the wet physics are still bad, there's no point).
  • More Manufacturer paint chips! No need to find the RGB to get exact shade anymore  The question is whether we have to buy the chips with the cars (like GT5-6) or buy them separately (like GTS in MiEx).
  • More bodykits and rims (though it remains to be seen whether this applies to all cars. and they are still generic PD designs instead of branded kits).
  • More detail in tuning screen (e.g. 0-60, lateral g), but I would've liked for Machine Test to return as well. Also they still haven't showed what are the Extreme tuning options (engine swap???)
  • Livery import from GTS 👍👍👍 But no word on whether Search function is improved.
  • Graphics & scapes gorgeous as usual. Was hoping heat haze effect in replay returns from GT3 though.
  • Museum is still there, and GT Cafe looks to build on this.
  • Updates (hopefully free) planned. More guessing car silhouettes from Kaz
  • No release date delay :D

So yeah, my expectations of GT Sport V2.0 with home screen and upgrades from previous games are on point basically. Music rally is a non-event. Most looking forward to figuring out how the weather radar works. Now just waiting for the full car/track list and we're good for 4/3/2022 :) 👍

In terms of microtransactions it seems you can straight up buy credits. When they go to buy a car and don't have enough there isn't a "buy this individual car on PSN" option, but a simple "top up on PlayStation Store" under your current balance, like it's a real wallet or bank balance.

Guess we can expect credits to remain hard to come by then so you are tempted to "top-up" with real money.

All in all I think this game will be extremely chill and enjoyable while you're in the menus, but aside from 24h multi class races with weather, feel very much like something you're tired of playing, on the track

Firstly, aside from being 1080 only, I think the presentation was pretty good. Yes, music rally is naff, but if you don’t like it.. don’t do it.

It simply amazes me that when Sport was released the shouting and complaining about it not being GT6 remade was out of control. Now people are posting saying it’s not modern enough or complaining that it’s just like old GT games and saying that Polyphony are stuck in the past. What would you like them to do. Listen and do what you were asking for, or don’t listen and be lambasted for not producing the game you want?!

I’m glad I’m not a game developer now, I’d be pulling my hair out trying to keep all of you happy!

Have you ever understeered? In a car? In the wet? Cause I’m afraid you’re wrong. Tyres chatter and vibrate in severe understeer. Do you think the sidewall stays perfectly stiff against the lateral treatment as it’s pushed across the surface?

Perfect review imo. Looks fun but not close to the ultimate GT game that was promised

GT6 and Sport had microtransactions and credits were never an issue, why would it be different now?

Yes, many times in the hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of track and proving ground time I've accumulated in the motor industry over 25 years. I also used to teach driving and vehicle dynamics for OEMs as part of my job, much of which involved demonstrating and training people what to do during under and over steer.

What you are referring to is tyre skip, and that occurs way past the onset of understeer, and is actually more likely to occur on a dry surface than a wet one (sheering forces on the rubber ensure that), the onset of understeer does not see tyre skip, but a drop of in steering wheel load due to self-aligning torque correcting the contact patch.

A loss of steering weight will always occur in understeer, but tyre skip will not always occur, and when it does it's after the steering weight loss, not at the same time as it, as GT does.

To take it further, maximum grip is actually extracted from tyres as they are slipping slightly, a point at which you have already started to feel a reduction in steering weight, and at a point where the care is technically (from a physics perspective) understeering and before wheel skip is inevitable. As the graph below shows, for this example, maximum grip (lat force) is occurring at 6 degrees of slip, and the steering weight is at 20% of its maximum. At this point GTS's FFB has been chattering like a lunatic for a while, while the onset of tyre-skip not only would not have occurred, but is actually still avoidable!

Lots of decent info, but if the replays are at a crappy 30fps on PS5, that's very very sad news...

The initial post about the graphics mode, said that ray tracing was 30fps, and then the framerate was removed.

I hope there is an option to disable ray tracing, and have the 60fps locked replays. Real life doesn't run at 30fps, or anywhere close. Actually a big deal for me, and I spend hours watching replays. I hope an option exists... if replays can't hold 60fps, GT7 is a non-starter for me. That's how important it is to me.

:(
