I personally have no usecase for VR no matter the kind of games available. I've tried all kinds of demos and games. I simply enjoy not having something strapped to my head that's tethered by a cable running across my living room.

The tech itself may be revolutionary but the extra hassle does not appeal.

In addition: the cost of the whole package (PS5, wheel, pedals, VR set) is excessive imo. What does it amount to? €1500-2000? That's too much for me.

This right here. Even if I had a PS5, I don't care to spend an extra $1000+ on VR, a quality wheel/pedal set, and a quality race seat. My experience in VR is limited to one of those things with the big ring that you stand in from the '90s...

...and from some stupid trainer they have at my job. And it can stay that way.

Honestly, I think the update will have some things that aren't related to the VR as that's honestly a general thing with updates. Yes, a lot of man-power is focused on VR probably, but not everyone is doing that as that's not how a studio typically operates. People working on driving physics for instance aren't the same people that are doing the car modelling.

With that said, if there's no new content for cars in this update; that would make me wonder if employees working on the car modelling were perhaps modelling engines so they can be viewed in the VR showroom mode like how you can view engine bays in Forza. or something like that.

Could care less about VR or steering setups when are we gonna get more tracks and cars would die to have Monte Carlo or Sebring not to mention originals like grand valley or apricot hill. Maybe a custom series and make custom races pay out more, just saying. Where's the newer skylines,TVR's , and Maserati's besides the gran turismo.

Ps5: 500-600€ (depending on "sale" and bundle)
gt dd pro + lc pedals= ~1000€
rig: 200€-1000€
vr2: 600€

that's ~ 3200€ if you choose all the "premium" stuff and new instead of second hand. (I know there are more expensive wheels and rigs).
That's a lot of cash but considering you don't have to update/upgrade for a few years it's okay (imo). Other hobbies like collecting/fixing certain cars are way more expensive :D

You're probably right, but maybe not in the way you meant it.

This update (and probably moreso the next one) could in fact be very important to see which way they're going forward with this game, i.e. which improvements/fixes/content additions I as someone who neither cares about VR nor online multiplayer can realistically expect in the future.
Maybe. As the old saying goes you can't please 100% of the people 100% of them time. Someone is going to be disappointed no matter what. I'm glad to see they are backing the new tech. VR is the future of gaming. Based on all the reviews so far we have finally hit a point where the VR version has graphical parity with the standard version on a console. This is the turning point. From here the tech will get better, smaller, lighter, cheaper, etc. If nothing else comes with this update, I'll be the guy with the headset on sitting in my rig and enjoying the entire game on a whole new level while everyone else is arguing and complaining about getting nothing new. Kind of ironic.

Prob going to be very nice to play this way, and I'm kind of jaleouse, cause I'm not going to buy a PS5, a VR2 set, a wheel and pedals... still rather going on vacation at the end of the year 🤣, vr with a controller feels like buttering your bread with a hammer imo 🤣

I predict that 5% of the gamers will buy VR2, at most. Just like SIM rigs, there's just a few percent that uses it.

But PD has a long history of catering to the WT drivers first and foremost, even if it is a disadvantage to the large number of players so you might be right.

Still, turning a niche game, as any racing game is, into something even more niche by catering to primarily VR will probably kill the game series for good.
If word gets around that GT needs VR to be played the vast part of the casuals are gone.

PS VR1 sold over 5m units, I expect PS VR2 to more than double that. Not least because the experience is so much better, not just a novelty. This gen also has a very long way to go and we’re unlikely to get a PS5 Pro.

Gran Turismo isn’t a niche title, which is precisely why it’s being described as a killer app. We will see an extremely high attach rate for GT7 as it appeals both to high end sim players, and general PS VR2 owners, looking for quality experiences.

VR will be the definitive way to play GT7 but PD have always gone out of their way to cater for all. It’s why pad players are so competitive and the PS VR2 preview events where split evenly between pad & wheel use.

Not to mention, all the lessons learned from getting GT7 up and running on PS VR2. Could have huge benefits for futures GT’s, in terms of running at higher frame rates and so on.

My wheel and peddles were £299 and by rig was £120 and it works fine so no need to spend the amount you listed. Wheel is a Logitech g29

As you can probably see, with the exception of the week he was in Europe for GT World Series Showdown in Austria, when the silhouette Tweet came six days before the update, every single one of them is on a weekend regardless of how close (1.13) or far away (all the others) the update actually is.

I'd not expect to see a Tweet until Sunday, although I wouldn't be surprised to see it on Saturday or even Monday this time.
