In addition: the cost of the whole package (PS5, wheel, pedals, VR set) is excessive imo. What does it amount to? €1500-2000? That's too much for me.
2.000€ or more would only be if you want something high-end.

PS5 = 450€-550€ - However, it's pretty much impossible to see them without bundles, so make it 550€-650€
Logitech G29 (pretty much the ideal starter wheel and still very good for a mid-tier): 250€ (~300€ if you want the shifter).
Seat/Rig = ~250€ for any decent rig anyone can find, but alas, there are people who don't need this if they have a good chair and table top for it.
PSVR2 = 600€
We are still looking at close to 1500€ yes. Waaaay too much, especially for basically playing GT7 (which would be my case).

I predict that 5% of the gamers will buy VR2
Of all global gamers? I dunno about that. The PSVR sold about 5 million units in comparison to 117 million PS4's and 30 million PS5's (PSVR works on both after all). That's about 3% of all players.

However, the PSVR was 400€, not 600€, and the inflation is pretty much just affecting costs while the common people are struggling more and more.

For GT7, this is basically something for the 1%. If the update that comes, after the game has been a slog for almost a year, and with the January gap with no update, and it's only PSVR2 content stuff???
Yeah, I know where the intentions with this game will be if that happens, and it's definitely not about making it anything like the old Gran Turismos, and just something for the "Elite". Heck, as if the whole game didn't have anything that already implied that

The night portion of the 1hr Spa event is already one of the greatest experiences in the game - now imagine that in VR. The utter satisfaction of nailing Eau Rouge as the sky blackens and the rains start coming down...
I wonder if they fix the broken lighting on this track for PSVR2. Otherwise your eyes might bleed once night & rain comes.

Just in US there's right now 867k players playing Lost Ark.
And the FPS games outnumber racing games many times over. MMO and MoBa games are also much much bigger.

Any racing game is a niche game. GT is one of the biggest, sure, but still a niche game.
No one is comparing £60/$70 titles with F2P games. In that context TLoU & GoW are also niche.

The models in your post come to well over €2,000 (at current values), so I'm not sure €600 for PS VR2 is only for the "Elites". A significant number of GT7 players will already own a PS5, a portion of those will also have a wheel set-up. Not that it's needed. Last gen you also needed to upgrade to PS4 Pro to get decent VR performance, with a full PS VR1 set-up (controllers, camera) being closer to €550.

While PS VR2 is far from an impulse buy, I wouldn't be surprised to see a significant proportion of the GT7 community getting the system. Not necessarily at launch, but certainly over the course of the generation, especially if we don't get a PS5 Pro. Sony and PD's intentions with the Gran Turismo franchise is to sell as many copies, to as wide a section of gamers, as possible. It's one of the reasons we're getting a Hollywood movie to increase public awareness. One month without a content update, after the significant 25th Anniversary update and PS VR2 work, is no indication of what's planned.

Precisely... At current values. Most of these I bought them new and over time (some of these models are over 10 years old). Plus, it's a huge hobby of mine, and are also an investment for the future, because they are gaining value. Just for this fact alone they are worth it, I however do get them because they are models that I adore and they look incredibly nice on my room, but it doesn't change the fact that I can get a profit on them if there's ever the need for it.
And have gotten for a few already, the McLaren MP4/23 that I bought for 100€ last year, I sold it to someone a few months back for 350€ (I'll probably regret this but heck, I'll just focus on 1 car per F1 driver).
Don't let those models I posted make you think I'm part of the Elite, if that's what you are implying of course.

600€ (plus what I stated before) for one racing game is incredibly niche... and no, nowhere near a "significant" portion of the GT7 playerbase will buy PSVR2.

My 1% statement was obviously just an expression, but in reality, it wouldn't really be any higher than 5%. And <5% is far from being a significant portion of the GT7 playerbase... That would require about 20-30% to be considered significant, I guess we would be arguing semantics at this point.

About what? 5 million people have bought GT7. No way, 1 million of those will buy PSVR2. In fact, about 4.8 million barely even play GT7 anymore if we consider the Time Trials that top out at 130k players participating in 2 weeks time...
So my 5% estimate is really quite realistic, even the 1% is actually.

Significant?

In a couple of weeks, the game will be a year old. I get that young people spend money frivolously, but even with that being the case, it's a steep ask to get people to buy new EXPENSIVE hardware to play a game many have put on the shelf already.

One month without a content update, after the significant 25th Anniversary update and PS VR2 work, is no indication of what's planned.
Sorry if this is not incredibly obvious, but those working on PSVR2 are not the same people working on game content. There is no aspect of PSVR2 that negates effort toward any game content at all.

Adding an event is trivial.

Your level of fandom is truly disturbing.

I really hope they fix the open lobbys. Im really angry on flatscreen and stoped me nearly complete plaaying lobbys. How these lags and stutter will hit in vr? Can only imagin

I agree with the first part of your post, that Gran Tusimo isn't niche, although you can argue semantics over the definition of niche and relativity, but as far as I'm concerned it's a high selling game. Not up there with the GTA's of this world, but the record setters don't definie what a high selling game is or not, they set the records.

I don't believe we'll see what would reasonably be described as a signficant portion of the GT7 community buying PS VR2 sets though. Although again, we could be crossing wires on semantics here, who are you inclding as the "community", people who own the game, currnetly active players or players who are active in the Sport Mode? They will produce significantly different answers as each of those is itself a significantly different number.

I can't see PS VR2 selling to more than 5% of the total number of PS5 sales as it will be in 4 or 5 years time. It might not sell as many as the original PS VR simply due to costs and peoples priorities shifting.

That doesn't mean it will be a failure, but these systems are desigined and priced according to expected sales and Sonys expected PS VR2 sales suggest lower numbers than the original VR. Bear in mind Sony are only producing 1m units at launch and then only expect to sell another 500,000 over the following 12 months, compare that to the original VR selling 2m in the first 12 months, and I really struggle to see how the VR2 will sell as many units as the original VR let alone double the number as your earlier post suggested.

It's a good piece of kit from the look of it, but it's not essential for enjoying games and my personal experience of VR is to use it for a bit, then get tired of getitng it our and putting it away and it ends up gathering dust in a cupboard. They aren't as comfortable as sitting on your couch staring at the TV and that's how most people play games. This combined with the current levels of inflation and costs of fuel and other necessities will lead people to prioritise and I don't see many people (relatively) opting to spend £530 on one.

For those that do buy one, I hope they get good use out of it, it looks like a solid item and I'm sure playing GT7 or other games on it will be a blast. But I don't anticipate it breaking records.

Vr is too expensive.
Spends double on a toy wheel with fake toy vibrations ( force feedback ) .
Everything is relative to what you can afford and the use you'll get out of it. I won't buy PS VR2 (or a PS5 until games come out that warrant it but I will likely purchase one eventually), but I did spend over £3k on my last PC build. There are two primary reaosns for that, one I enjoy PC building, and two I use it most days, granted not every day for gaming, but I use it almost every day and when I do fire up a game, outside of GT7 and FF7:Remake when those games launched, it tends to be on the PC.

I'm fortunate enough that I can quite easily afford a PS5 and order PS VR2 and a gaming wheel tonight if I wanted, but they won't get much use and will just end up stored away taking up space somewhere. For people that will use those things enough, they can be very worthwhile purchases, but everything is relative. If I were back in my late teens/early 20's, unmarried and with fewer things occupying my time and attention, I'd probably be all over a wheel setup and VR2 (I did have a wheel back then but VR wasn't really a viable thing). But then if I were in my late teens/early 20's I probably couldn't have afforded both  .

Should be some good open top cars to try.

Current cars in the UCD are:

Honda S800
Honda S2000
Chevrolet Corvette C3 Convertible(if the top is removable)
BMW Z8

Currently in the LCD:

Mercedes-Benz S Barker
Porsche Spyer 550

Some of the other available will be interesting:

Lancia Stratos
Lamborghini Countach ‘74
Ford GT MkI
Abarth 595 ‘70

Will be interesting comparing cockpit feel. Plus, all the details and “jewellery” of the gauges.

That's about the long and the short of it as far as I'm concerned as well.
I'd love to borrow/rent a PSVR2 set for a week or so to check it out, but I have too many other hobbies syphoning time and money to be able to justify actually buying one and using it enough to be worth the money. Also, life and a family.

So cost isn't the overriding issue, you just have other priorities. I'm in the opposite corner, I've cut down on memorabilia to fund PS VR2, and stepped back after a brief flirtation with PC gaming. Last gen PS4 Pro & PS VR1 released within months of each other, I was day 1 for the Pro, but never ultimately purchased PS VR1. The value proposition has now changed, PS VR2 will be the definitive way to play GT7. So much so I've also bought a wheel set-up after years of being a pad player.

I can see PS VR2 being purchased by 10% of the PS5 userbase over the hardware's lifetime. We're still in the early adopter phase, RRP will reduce in time, we'll see Christmas sales etc. However, amongst the active GT7 community I do expect a much higher adoption rate because of the very nature of sim racing. As for the general PS VR2 userbase I wouldn't be surprised to see close to a 1:1 adoption rate (obviously it's never that high, but you get the point). It's the showcase title for the system and driving cars is relatable to all.

Even in the current economic climate, after a recent price increase, Sony are forecasting record PS5 sales, with 30% of new owners never having owned a PS4. Even when tightening their belts, people are prepared to purchase quality products. That will also be the case with PS VR2. There'll be many years of support ahead for those who are not Day 1 buyers.

PD are under no obligation to release content on any schedule but their own. In Japan staff often take extended holidays into January. It's perfectly reasonable to suggest content will be rolled into the 1.29 PS VR2 update. They may even roll-out PS VR2, then a substantial content update for the One Year Anniversary.
Your level of fandom is truly disturbing.
By all means expand on that. I've posted plenty about Sony & PD's vision for the franchise, new hardware & platform support, commercial performance, future developments etc. As I recall you where adamant GT7 was dead after 3 months, PD where on life support, Sony fudging funding/numbers etc. Here we are, a year on from release, GT7 riding high in the PS5 charts, the talk of the sim community, and spearheading Sony's PS VR2 launch. Oh, and a Hollywood movie on the way.

Same. Playseat challenge with a G29 is all I need.

That and £530…
Exactly, I think most people who want it will already have a wheel and seat for gt, so the question is do you want the Vr for £530 or not. Game is playable either way so up to each of us to decide. There is no requirement to buy it to play gt7.

I remember headmaster ended up being my favourite game of psvr, so I'm getting vr for all the games coming, not just because of GT7

Not for me personally no, but I'm pretty sure I'm not representing a majority there, most people probably couldn't spend £3k on a PC either so so my personal rationale isn't something I'm projecting onto everyone else. I envisage price will be prohibitive for a lot of people. So do Sony.

I don't know if this is deliberate or not, but you are completely overlooking the fact that Sony thmeselves predict it will sell lower numbers than the PS VR over the first 12 months. The PS VR sold approx. 2m units in that time, PS VR2 is forecast to sell 1.5m. That is including next Christmas, the forecast runs to March 2024.

I honestly don't know where you're pulling this 10% and now close to a 1:1 sales ratio from, it's nonsense. Even Sony are refuting it will do that with their forecasts.
Even in the current economic climate, after a recent price increase, Sony are forecasting record PS5 sales, with 30% of new owners never having owned a PS4. Sure, but they're also forecasting lower PS VR2 sales than PS VR sales, which sold so about 4.2% of PS4 purchases. If you're going to trust and place weight on one forecast you must do the same with the other when they are both from the same source surely. Or do you know more than Sony at this point?

Honestly, I hope you enjoy it when you get yours, I have no doubt it will be great, but I also have no doubt it won't sell numbers close to 10% of PS5 purcahses over it and the PS5's lifetime.

This is what I’m hoping. Looking at the 4 cars and all of our predictions of the past 2 months, we almost all got it completely wrong 😛

Not complaining about these silhouettes though

Updates? Plurial? 🤔
Google translated the Japanese to "Next week's update is pretty big." (singular).

Running the English portion through Bing's translator to Japanese and back to English turned the "update" to singular form as well, so who knows if one or two updates are planned.
