One flippin' point...

On a side note, BRWannab'E' Datsun Racing is now recruiting for Season Two! (By that I mean if anyone wants to fill in a spot on the team roster and get in on some sweet tunes for the Datsun, let me know and I'll get ya set up)
We will run a knockoff BRE Datsun Paint scheme,
images
'cause that's what the team is based off of, and number choices would preferably be multiples of 11 (i.e. 11, 22, 33... etc etc)

Alright, few administrative things coming up.

First off, I'm glad that we're finally getting into a rhythm with this current format! I am slowly compiling the February calender and may have that out around Silverstone time, there is one thing I have yet to decide on.

Now, my plan with this series was to keep the 'Gentlemen's Cup' name going for a bit, and every few months or so change out the car regs and race formats for something new. I can safely say that February will keep the current spec, then March may be something new. (As I've found from experience, 2 months is about the time where people get bored with their cars and want out.) Expect something single make before we transition to something bigger.

So my question is this: When we reset point in Feb, how would you guys feel about having the option to switch cars?
I hesitate a little with this, because my fear is that the entire field will be one make of car, but I want to hear from you guys on it. The obvious way around this is to say 'mandatory car switch,' but I'm not quite ready to say that yet.

A quick note on teams: it looks like it may not happen. Which is unfortunate. I'll continue to leave the option for teams open for a while and see what happens, but the interest doesn't appear to be there. I'll let things develop before I decide to end it completely or not.

Other than that, the racing has been good, and we're set for Silverstone this week!

I personally find it fun to use strategy and tire/fuel management to get the upper hand on some of the faster cars... That's why I chose the Nissan, I already know I'm fast, so I wanted to pick a car I can have fun with and be competitive using my brain instead of the leadfoot. Long story short, if you opened up the car regs, I'd still drive the Nissan and encourage others to do so.

@flip55 funny you should mention the "team" program. @Ares85 and I are considering forming TEAM Corvette. What is the main difference when racing as a team vs individual.

I like the idea of a single make series. I think it takes a lot of time to adjust BoP for different cars to be used.
For more racing and less hassle I think racing one make cars "stock" with only changes to brake balance allowed works best. (I'm not good at car setups.) One make Race Car series would be easy even with tuning allowed as most race cars have tunes posted for them.

I'm happy with what everybody else wants to do.

EDIT: Practice room closed in club

Personally im mixed about this.

On the one hand a one make series is based around the driver. If we have this. Tuning the car is out of the question. Leaving it as is puts more focus on the individual driving it, rather then their knowledge about tuning in GT.

On the other hand Id like to switch my car personally. But that opens a whole new can of worms. A Ferrari 458 and Mustang for instance with the same PP level. The 458 will be faster around a circuit. Fact. Thats where you are good with balancing the cars. Lets face it, GT's pp system is not the best way of measuring a cars performance. There are so many other variables. Id like to be in what ever series this proceeds to be. Any would be fine with me.

I would also like to create my own team for next season aswell.

Yes flip it's true, we decided with Rudd to create a team

I really liked the idea of a one make racing, one car for everyone, at least, then you know who has a better set, it would be cool to start one make racing in February,

I dont belong to the good tuners, and as you know flip i'm planning my own championship, and the more I deepen into the setting of all the cars, the more I moving away from my concept.

I'm torn here, having not been able to race this month so far it is hard to put a legitimate response to this.

On one hand the Nissan one spec races we had which were a stunning success. We had competitive racing through the whole field. Strategy definitely played a huge role in that.

The other hand is the fact that it is nice to choose between cars along with figuring out what is the fastest way to drive them against the field. It does cater more to the tuner being proficient to get the most out of the car.

I can go either way on this.

I agree with this! But the ability to tune a car does not always outweigh drivers ability or the car in question. @WanganGhost used the example of a 458 being faster than a Mustang as fact at this PP level, and while Wangan is not wrong in the fact that the 458 is relatively "faster" than a Mustang, someone could in fact drive the Mustang faster than a 458 just due to preference or style of driving.

It is inherently difficult to balance the performance of all the cars so that every single car has just as good a chance at winning as the others. With the added facts that we were allowed to choose cars outside of the regulations if they still met the criteria (which I did), tuning preferences and driving preferences. In a situation such as this series, there will always undoubtedly be a "fastest" car in the group that we have, but there is also the most skillful driver who may take a car that is not deemed "fast" and win with it regardless.

In my opinion having teams would be perfectly fine if we had 16 committed, regular guys to race this series every week. Unfortunately we don't have this. Instead we have a diverse field of cars and drivers of varying expertise and skill (gentleman cup). But that's not to say we should ban the teams entirely, if two teams are ready, why not let them race as teams?

just my two cents I guess lol

Thank you guys very much for your input!

So, from what I can see, everyone is split. Which is also how I feel at the moment.

While I do like a good one make race, I do like have diverse fields with a good amount of cars. And I can personally attest to the fact that the performance points system is broken at times. There are actually times when power to weight doesn't work between multiple cars. (Side note: I think the game actually takes areo efficiency into account more than we think. It's a theory I have as to why the Nissan GTR GT3 is so much slower than the rest of the GT3s, because it's much taller than the rest and pokes a bigger hole in the air, for example... But I digress. End side note.)

I had hoped to make this series a mix of both single make and non - single make racing. February will be the second month with this spec before we transition to something else.
What I think I am going to allow for next month is to let people to switch cars for the purposes of completing a team, if they want to. I still won't make teams mandatory to compete, but if you would like to join one, then you will be allowed to swap over to that car. Team points won't be official until February.
We'll finish out this month with the current car selection, then move to what's next.

For a quick reminder of the current teams set up, here is what we got

Redline Autosport, run by me, current car is the Aston (all of that is subject to change).

I'll Owe You Won Racing, run by Miata13b/Somebodyshootme, car is the Honda NSX.

BRWannab'E' Datsun Racing, run by RobbiefromBC/BC_BOYZZ, car is the Nissan.

We do appear to have one team up and running between Ares and Rudd (👍), I'll just need a name from you guys if you are indeed running a team.

Wangan has also mentioned wanting to start a team. Please give me a little more info on it if you would, please.

Of course sir. I'd like to call it R-Sport , even though it's just me for the moment, and depending on regs for feb. Id like to use the '02 Lotus Esprit. We can have 2 mid engine cars with somebodyshootme's NSX. With stage 1 lightweight and 45kg of ballast its at 1300kg.
With an oil change its at 370bhp and 494pp.

Here is a little twist you could do Flip. It kinda goes to the two class system, along with one make racing. Maybe give a month where you can 1 of 2 cars. Make them two classes along with being relatively close to each other in times. Would make for some interesting races. Maybe a spec Civic/Integra versus a spec BMW race. Just a thought.

As for racing thank god I'm back on track. That little break did a number on my driving skill and now see I am slower then I was. Feels like a digression but it only means a giant leap is around the corner. I hope everyone is looking forward to passing me ;-).

Name: good!
Car: The Esprit will not let you put a flat floor on, which is a requirement for additional cars.

One more quick thing for SIlverstone tonight. Obviously, this place has a few places with a lot of run off. Just to show what I find acceptable, here is a look.

This is OKAY. Two tires on the red and white kerbs, and two on the green stuff is okay.

This is NOT OKAY. Way past the green stuff into the black pavement.

Now, obviously, some people may slip up on accident, or may have to for the sake of accident avoidance, or something like that. If you go out there on accident, you can't gain an advantage out of it. Passing someone out there is definitely frowned upon. You also cannot set a lap faster than your previous fastest lap.

Also, if you are exiting the pits, please stay to the right side of the road if someone else is coming up to you. For those on track, please be heads up about the pit entry and exit, and stay to the left side of the track at the exit.

You guys are usually awesome with this stuff 👍, so normally I don't worry about it. But here, I felt like I needed to mention something because of the unique layout here. See you guys tonight!

If someone wants to swap to a Viper in February, I would be down for a team! Maybe a team name along the lines of "Pit Viper Motorsports" or "Black Adder Motorsports" (cars would need to be black lol) would be appropriate!

Any takers? lol

Tonight's room is now live!!!

Event finished! Congrats to @Ares85 on the win!
See you next week for the final January round at Spa!

Full system freeze. Went to blip the throttle under braking and it just went bollocks... Whatever, wasn't on it tonight anyways. Sorry guys

That's sucks bc, great racing tonight guys, nice job finishing in between the vetts flip, honestly surprised my self with 4th place thought I was going to have long night, think I was getting better tire wear which help me gain little ground.

Great racing everyone forgot how much fun this is. Well except when my pedals and wheel decided not to respond for a couple of seconds and drove straight off the road during the main race at the beginning lol.

Oh well it was like old times fighting back from the rear of the field.

Had a bump on your Robbie, sorry about that :-(.

Thanks for the close & clean race at the end @Kgffy. I'm still learning how to maintain my concentration when someone starts closing the gap & gets close behind me. Usually when no one is close my laps but are pretty consistent but when someone is in my mirror I start making mistakes. :nervous:

Thanks @WanganGhost & @Ebojager for the extra room you gave me when I was trying to pass you.

It was a fantastic race, racing with you guys is a real pleasure:cheers: (I apologize for some confusion at the start of the second race, I delayed a bit too much braking:bowdown:) Silverstone turned out for me incredibly happy, because the double win:D:D, i hope that in spa i will go just as well.

rudd fantastic ride 4 and 3rd place:tup:👍👍.
