the PD that's been talked about for years is one that deeply lacks transparency in what they say and actually do.

I get what you're saying, and I'm aware of the delays over the years, but I'm not talking about a simple delay. That happens all the time.

What I'm talking about is making a huge announcement for something, and just casually letting the date* pass and totally pretending it didn't happen. I think that's a first? (if not, please enlighten me!)

Also, not just a first, but a new low.

*I'm aware there's no specific date, but if they stay silent til E3, then this applies for sure.

Gran Turismo can only go up from here.

Unfortunately, not at all. We can all imagine another game with uneven quality of cars and tracks, poor sounds and AI, wobbly framerates, shaky netcode, and lackluster design of events and features.

While I'm sure we can all think of a better game than GT6, we can all also think of one that would be much worse. It's hard to make a good game, but it's not hard at all to take a decent formula and turn out a stinker.

Everyone hopes that it's not going to turn out like that, but the fact that after GT5 and 6 it's very much a possibility is what has a lot of people hesitating until more information is available.

I hope that Kaz getting the feeling of GT1 means simplicity then I'm all for that. I just worry they'll try to tick every feature box. The FIA tie up could also cause problems. In real life you only have to look at F1 to see the potential mess there.

To be honest, gt6 is worse in some cases than gt5 : framerate, career mode, lighting... I want to believe in a come back of Poly but gt6 is bad. And I don't know why I expect gt sport even after gt6.
PS3 is not the one to blame but Poly.

I think what PD wanted to do with GT6 ended up being too much for the PS3, which could have resulted in the problems that the game had.

..and what did they want to do exactly? Because most of the issues with that game have nothing to do with limitations and everything to do with choices from PD. Other developers had the exact same limits and managed to put out games with actual offline racing, for example.

I quite agree that it should have been both easier to tweak, clearer what the tweaks did and better balanced from the start (I am also pretty sure that the PS4, which I'm using, was better than the XBox 1 at launch in this regard).

However its is still perfectly possible to both use a pad with PCars and to be competitive with a pad on PCars
I agree. Like any game, it just takes patience. I eventually found an acceptable setting, but it was actually one of my smaller gripes with the game so while things piled on top of that, I eventually just caved in. Coming from Forza, the games pad input didn't seem to far off from what they do with Simulation Steering, so as long as you approach it in a similar manner, it was fine.

I was wondering is there any info on that Beta that was/is supposed to be released this year?
And will we maybe se Porsche in GT Sport?

What I'm saying is it isn't at all strange when you look at the PD track record. It's been pointed out on here already why those who think it's strange shouldn't. They did this with many things such as seasonals, major car dlc, and probably the biggest one in recent past being course creator and then it one day more or less just appearing. There was no on going dialogue with the community as to when it would happen, why it was taking so long, and why it was basically out of the blue.

The reason I bring up delays, is because they've been known to announce something not talk about it for a while and then when it comes close to the date, let it blow over or come out a day or two before and call for push of date (due to the pre-order of whatever version).

Fair play. Whichever way you look at it, they are totally useless at communicating, and it's becoming more and more of a problem.

GT Drivers Club in GT5 is another one. Can't find the articles at the time but it was announced as coming soon then just...didn't, with no word.

I feel like have the list in the famous Kaz picture with powerpoint slide of upcoming features, could be added to things said and never seen. Race clubs which I think the GT Driver's club was intended to be, is a big one and so was the supposed color and livery editor.

If the "GT Drivers Club" was a Polyphony Digital idea...

and later idea was by Evolution Studios...

Wait...

OMG.

Driveclub will be under PD hands. :D

Where was that powerpoint slide? I totally missed out on all of that...

The GT Drivers Club thing is pretty bad - cheers for the depressing links haha

Ah yeah, I've seen it, I just didn't know anything about how and why...

GDC? Something private that got papped without their knowledge?

And the context - what was the slide before? 'things we would like' or 'THIS IS COMING NEXT WEEK'...? lol

From what I can recall these were all things that we were to expect to see in GT5 and by default GT6 since it was suppose to be everything GT5 never got the chance to be.

It was a list of features planned for Gran Turismo HD. Notice the gigantic GTHD logo in the background of the slide behind the text.

Obviously none of it matters anymore since GTHD was cancelled nearly a decade ago.

It was indeed but it would be wrong to say none of it matters since it's not like GT5 was a totally different game, the scope just changed. It stands to reason they would've also wanted to include all of that in GT5, and indeed did with most of it.

Eh it was what GT5 later became we know this.

Good spot, and holy shiz that's depressing.

We're dealing with absolutes again and the game could end up being simply above average - good but not stellar across the board - better sound, graphics, AI that still makes stupid mistakes but not AS BAD etc etc.

It doesn't have to be either "the best racing game made since GT1 shocker" or "complete garbage" - in fact it's hard for it be one of those. A much more probable scenario is just a decent game.

When you think about it in the years since that list was made, they now are only missing four of those features and one of them is a BIG one.

That's a good point. If PD only fixes the presentation of the game, including sound, standard cars, standard tracks and so on, then at that point GT Sport will merely be a mediocre/decent racing game, alike many others that already feature those things as basics.

For GT Sport to be a really solid entry then it should improve gameplay wise as well. This was my main complain about GT5, that was all grind and no fun, with special events that ended up being teasers of what it could have been. GT6 was better on that regard, but still to me GT4 was by far the superior videogame and what I would rather play.

For example, lets assume GT Sport is "next gen" everything, so that in that regard competes with the current games. In the very first race, would a potential consumer rather play a game that lets you drive a Ferrari or anything else he wants, while listening to an engaging soundtrack, or would he go for the one that has a mandatory tutorial featuring a Nissan Leaf and days long menus with lounge music? GT5 with PS4 graphics still is GT5.
