I think everyone needs to consider what GT Sport is: a placeholder for GT7

Did anybody get an over/under bet going on how many hours after the stream wrapped before the p-word came up?

Maybe you think it's clever to refer to the game as a placeholder. A way to lower the bar of expectations even: something to simply tide fans over. I'm not sure.

But it does quite the opposite: it implies that this is a product that doesn't have a fully committed team behind it. If I go to a nice restaurant, and the chef is sending out a three-course meal, I don't refer to the appetizer as a placeholder or filler simply because there's an entrée coming up after. He's put just as much care into the former as he did the latter.

Seriously, check out "placeholder" in the dictionary. It's a backhanded compliment at best.

Just woke up, yesterday was totally a fun day.

For a game that's apparently half way done, its looking outstanding.

I'm concerned about the way in which Polyphony have presented the game however. They're using an early build in the trailer, leaving the game open to graphical criticism along the lines of tree walls that weren't present in the actual gameplay. Not only that, but they need to work on the online net-code. People are basing their opinion on the physics off the fact the cars jitter around a lot when spectating for some reason. The sound has been largely improved, but then masked by the overwhelming sound of tyre squeal.

I don't think they could have made the game look worse if they tried.

Took some sleep and when waking up this thought of being a bit underwelmed is there.

I don't doubt PD for how hard they work on a game. I am sure they work with passion and dedication on their product. I think the graphics looked fine and at points very impressive. I have the feeling they dropped the tuning model to level out playing fields. I wonder if it will make its way back in or that it is being completely dropped for GTS?

No info on and not seen:
  • Tuning?
  • Tirewear?
  • Tire compounds?
  • Fuel consumption?
  • Brakeglow?
  • Backfire?
  • Weather?
  • Damage?
  • Modifications?
  • Rims?
  • GT Garage?
  • Credit system?
  • Does every normal car have an RM modification?

My biggest issue with what I have seen so far is the sounds. I simply can't understand how this can be excepted. When I look at the sounds of Driveclub and PCars they seem miles ahead. Maybe not completely when it comes to accuracy but it adds a lot to the experience. I found the car sounds in GTS when the cars were waiting on the grid before the start not bad at all, but once it got underway it was simply horrible. I have no other word.

They new city track that was shown didn't cut it for me as well. Looked very boring and cheap in fact. Many tunnels and high buildings. Simply no racing atmosphere at all. Brands Hatch was great.

A big plus for me personally was to see quiet a few cars from my favorite manufacturer but I currently can't say it is enough to convince me to buy the game. I wait to see their improvements over the coming months.

A few more plusses:
  • FIA connection
  • New car classes
  • Visuals
  • Photomode
  • Livery editor
  • Driver profile
  • Replay system

Looking forward to seeing and hearing the impressions of the members

It could be worse, we haven't seen stuttering entering corners, slow downs with many cars in view, sticky cars, cars hitting invisible walls, crashes to home screen with error report have we ? Imagine if PCars has similar venue a a few weeks before console release on Xbone and PS4, imagine those release day bugs, glitches and errors during MP races / live stream. Not going to be good for sales on release after long multiple delays. PD took huge risk IMO doing this on daily build with graphics issues, physics and sound that highly likely a WIP and still underwhelming. Now we can see for what it is the current state of GTS build 6 months before "tentative" release date ( could be delayed :P )

Really hoping AC will do similar venue, live stream MP races on console sometime before release :P

Good Morning people what a night. We finally getting a Gt game on ps4.
I think it looks good, people expecting Driveclub visuals are mad.I just hope performance is rock solid.
Sound I could not hear anything over the tyre squeel and commentary but this is Pd's kryptonite.I hope for better.
I really liked the yellow flags and pace car awesome we need more of that.
Collisions need to improve massively even more than sound.
Pitch fork put away for now but I have it at my side.

I don't understand why people comparing DC visuals to GT sport to be honest. That game runs only at 30 fps with only 12 cars on track. I really like what I see and hear about the game except for the car sounds. The flag system and car safety is really interesting, I haven't seen that in any console game before

Americanese is my primary language, Slip. ;)

This place is going to debate what exactly GT Sport is possibly until the end of this current age of man. Saying that this game is a stand-in for the true sequel to GT6 doesn't diminish what it is, or Polyphony Digital or their hard work, or anything. If you think so, that is your right. But I think it's abundantly clear that a large number of Gran Turismo fans are clamoring for a next gen Gran Turismo game, and I'd also say it's abundantly clear that GT7 won't be ready for the foreseeable future, at least a year, possibly two, maybe more. Maybe you could wait that long. I suppose I could too, with such quality games coming out as Ratchet & Clank, Deus Ex, Uncharted 4 and No Man's Sky. But I wouldn't want to. I'm sure you consider Forza in that same A Class league. I don't. I reserve that accolade for RaceRoom, which I consider superior to all but perhaps iRacing. But it lacks the variety I crave in such games as Forza and Gran Turismo. And what SONY wants is a Gran Turismo game for PS4, as soon as humanly possible.

Okay, now we're getting it. What exactly that game is in essence will be debated, that's just the way it is when PD makes a game even smaller than GT3 is. Oh well. Heck, even as incredible as the goodies we're getting in Sport are, people here got mad at it and began pitching fits as you well know.

But one thing isn't in doubt, that I love it hard, and can hardly wait for it. As the days pass, I'm sure attitudes will change, and new people will find their way here and celebrate it. And because it's such a limited game in so many ways, many of us if not all will be turning our attention to that Gran Turismo with a 7 on the end, and wishing it was here. I really don't believe I need explain this to you, but it seems I inevitably have to elaborate to certain folk here.

Driveclub is actually the definitive worst possible racing game on current consoles.

Huge amounts of bias aside, why the heck would you think that?

Because Driveclub looks exciting. I have no idea what either of them drive like, but Driveclub looks like it would be fun.

Now you might say it's silly to compare GTS graphically to Driveclub, and you're right. I didn't expect it to look as good. But I expected it to be somewhere in between Driveclub and Forza, and for GTS to offer some other amazing feature to make it worth $60.

Apparently, that feature is Scapes. Which is all well and groovy, but it holds no interest to the driver in me. I want to drive cars, and while Scapes is something neat that I might spend an hour or two with, it's not worth any money to me.

Racing-wise, GTS looks like more of GT5 and GT6. Bland tracks with simplistic racing. I don't know if Driveclub is any different, but at least I don't really know what to expect with DC and so I'd be more interested to try it. Maybe it's awful. But as someone who doesn't own a PS4, I'd be more interested in giving it a go to see what is what than I am to play what appears to be GT6 HD: Photomode Edition.

Is that so? Please explain why it is the definitive worst possible racing game on current consoles.
Perhaps because DC is amazing with a near perfect arcade driving model, stunning graphics and epic tracks?

They forgot to add a game. Im not going to argue any further, because clearly we have different values on what makes a driving game enjoyable. You know, probably should have stated that I have an unpopular opinion in that post, sorry about that.

Yeah I don't really see how this meme applies.

DC defines the term 'terrible racing game', for me anyway. Again, I should have stated this earlier.

So if ps3 cars won't be used...Does tgis mean PD screwed up spending so much time making them so high res? Wasted time if they can't be reused.

I'm guessing na, they prob reused the original modelling data, but "rebuilt" them for a new engine in PS4/GTS.

I'm pretty sure they are used actually. Some of the models that were already in GT6 look exactly the same now (but with better shaders). You can even see it in comparisons people have done months ago. Perhaps that was a translation error, or something.

The Meme applies because you phrased your opinion as if it were fact.

That you don't like Driveclub, doesn't make it the definitive worse driving game on the PS4 for anyone but you .

Well yeah, that's what I meant. As I just said. And then apologised for.

that's interesting. Is that a Golf with dirt mods?

You know I am starting to fear that PD has been double counting their cars...

Yes, it is, maybe another group b tribute, or could it be an RM??. Or just mods??

It's a mistery, btw, here's the booty of the Group B Mustang!! :D

You say this like it's a surprise to you that different people like different things.

There's no argument being had as far as I can see, you asked me why I hold an opinion (albeit somewhat rudely) and I told you. Does that really constitute an argument? Maybe I suppose, if you're then going to somehow tell me that I'm wrong for finding certain things enjoyable.

And this is what I don't like...

When people say something is bad, why can't they suddenly elaborate on why the subject in question is bad? Especially with games lately.

Tell us why you think the game is bad instead of just ranting on a baseless assumption.

I can tell you why right now I think DC is both a good and a bad game.

Elaborate before you say something is trash.

Credit system?

This came from GTPlanet's Twitter page yesterday. Under where it says "United Kingdom", you can see the credits icon from GT6. Hopefully that's shed some light on the credits situation. By the way, I'm on my phone and I can't find the option to embed the image. I'll fix it later on when I get on my PC.

EDIT: Embedded the image.

I see a few people are playing counselor here. Maybe by the weekend, or even tomorrow, people will have calmed down and clearer thinking, and discussion, can resume. Thank God I missed the usual GT Planet implosion. :P

I think everyone needs to consider what GT Sport is: a placeholder for GT7, which likely is being worked on diligently behind the scenes by at least a fraction of the team. So what can we expect from a super-Prologue? Not as much as the full release title.

But what we're getting is a lot, really. Many of us wanted to see something bodacious, but the cautious warned to not expect much. 40, 50, 70 cars or so, 8 to 12 tracks. A bit more than GT5 Prologue, which would be enough for an eSport stand-in for GT7. For a while. Race Mod, Livery Editor? Don't even think it, you'll just be disappointed. New sounds, fairly realistic damage, world class A.I.? Yeah, don't go there either. Just expect a nice, prettier, shinier, MUCH smaller GT6 without Standards - cars anyway, maybe tracks. Samus and I both were gently evangelizing more, though of course in my typical TenD manner, I'm always a scouche more ambitious on what might be coming, so mentioned up to 150 cars, a number of car classes, 20 to 30 tracks, and I even tossed out the "livery" word now and then - hopefully, to be sure. But I was prepared for the much, MUCH smaller, prettier GT6, with a scoop of cars and a handful of tracks. No Race Mod, no modification at all, little or no damage, marginally improved A.I., maybe, and for sure no Livery Editor outside of a few templates per car, if that.

Well. And then the presentation began. Well... ;)

I'm happy. I got WAY more than I expected. No, not everything, as I'd asked for quite a bit, but what I'm getting is pretty substantial. My various car classes, and the sports cars are lumped into an "N Series," which says to me there will be more than one class of sports car racing - like, how does a Miata compete with a Focus and Corvette? There is a good selection of cars. The tracks look great, and the Nurb returns! Rally racing! We get Photo Mode? Awesome, and so many locations! And ZOMG, a Livery Editor! Online racing with championships with those real prizes. Offline, nearly 120 events! And more to come I believe. Who expected all this?

Oh yes, people wanted world class engine notes and radically different physics, simulator level damage, night racing, and weather up to severe. To an extent, not unreasonable wishes. Well, we can't have it all, that's just life. I didn't get everything for Christmas I wanted either. Some things are unclear. Will we get an Event Maker to make our own races with, online or off? Will we have private lobbies, or user lobbies at all? Can we manage anything in online racing ourselves? What will the bots race like? Don't know.

But, there is a "but." ;) The game isn't done yet. It will have around five more months of work done on it. You could be polite and lobby for things. A lot of our wishes will likely be put off for a Spec II update, or most likely GT7, but we can ask. Kaz does pay attention to his fans. Maybe I should emphasize... faaaans. People who want to dialog, suggest, make requests, not throw their egos around and bully like Donald Trump. Could we get some more goodies trickled down from GT7? Maybe, but I can't think that being belligerent about anything, threatening to run off to Those Other Games, will be anything but counterproductive to your causes.

And keep in mind, GT7. It's being worked on. Who knows what we'll be getting with it? Let's not have epic tantrums just yet. Like trustjab and a few other diehard loyalists, I'm the eternal Gran Turismo optimist. I think my optimism in the game, Kaz and the team, was justified today. I got some GOOD stuff in Sport to look forward to. Maybe more than that when it nears release. It bodes well for GT7. In Kaz and PD I trust. Mark my words.

👍👍👍
Your post reflects all of my feelings about this GT Sport reveal!

I apologise for coming off rude to you, that wasn't my intention. Might have been a little flustered at the time. It slightly annoyed me that you were comparing a game that is 6 months from launch to a game that is almost 2 years old. But yeah, I don't know why I wrote my message so rudely.

You can say that I have had some serious relationship issues with Driveclub, and quite honestly I wouldn't be able to fully explain to you why I hate it so much. Might be to do with the fact that I was so extremely excited for DC and ended up being hugely let down. It has certainly been improved a great deal at this point, but I will not excuse it for how much of a non-game it was when it came into life.

I guess you could PM me if you want a fully fledged answer.
There's no argument being had as far as I can see,
Yeah, but it was probably going to become one very shortly.

If you think so, that is your right.

That's true: it's certainly my right to continue to use words properly. Like 'placeholder'. It's also your right to use it incorrectly, though don't be surprised when it confuses others.

I'd also say it's abundantly clear that GT7 won't be ready for the foreseeable future, at least a year, possibly two, maybe more.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Maybe you could wait that long.

Oh, probably not (although I did it before, from GT4 to GT5). But as the link above shows, the reason I don't feel like I'll need to wait four or five years after GT6 isn't because I randomly decided on a deadline.

I'm sure you consider Forza in that same A Class league.

What, in a league where waiting five years between installments is acceptable? I don't: because it's never been that long of a wait. :P

And what SONY wants is a Gran Turismo game for PS4, as soon as humanly possible.

Don't present guesses as facts.

And because it's such a limited game in so many ways, many of us if not all will be turning our attention to that Gran Turismo with a 7 on the end, and wishing it was here.

There's so much still unknown about GT Sport, so I'm genuinely curious how you know it's so limited.
