Nurburgring "Scape" Dat trees!

See what I mean by confusing?

I doubt they will be so blatant to use the Scapes as in-game/replay graphics though.

They are though already using images that have much higher IQ and textures (tree trunk at least):

They cover themselves very craftily with this:

GT Website
While you may not notice the level of detail in the cars and tracks while driving in normal gameplay, you will see it in replays and in Photo Mode where you can study the images up close.

Implies gameplay graphics but only states for replay and photo mode.

[insert Robert De Niro finger wag GIF here]

And just because it sticks out like a sore thumb and I'm surprised it is still there....

Genuinely looks like HD PS2 except the McLaren.

Meanwhile I'm just wondering how we'll get the FIA license. Will the races be monitored via live stream by someone during the final tests or is it just race clean for a year and then you'll get your license

Adding only one dirt location almost implies as though the rally aspect was merely an afterthought; something they decided to throw in there just to say they have it. However, I wouldn't like to think so considering the Group B concept cars PD threw into the mix, so I'd like to bet there will be another location thrown into the mix.
It seems like it was an afterthough

We haven’t fully decided how we are going to implement off-road racing, but we want to make sure that the new version has a lot of fun tracks, as we think dirt driving is fun. The previous versions of Gran Turismo had dirt tracks, and they were always fun.’

Probably will be more than one though.

sure, you dont look at those trees or the grass while driving, but this looks quite aweful, those 2d trees must be placeholder of some kind, i hope it looks at least as good as driveclub at the end and almost as good in vr, otherwise its a shame!

It's a work in progress. There have already been improvements to that section that were posted somewhere. I don't believe the tracks are completely finished.

Nah you will get it after playing xx hours and if your safety rating is good enough. You also might need to drive for real at a track on a track day so they can see you're a good racer outside of GT too. I believe Kaz mentioned this in the VVV Interview Part 2.

Edit: I might be wrong, I can't remember exactly where I heard this be answered. I also have little juice left on my phone so I can't find an accurate source right now.

Absolutely placeholder, Noz. I'm just as surprised about that image still being on the official site as I am confused about what mode has what graphics...

That picture is not a "scape". It's supposed to be the asset used in game. If the final game will have that quality of assets is hard to believe, but that's what it is.

100% sure these screenshots were taken on the original build, just look a the awkwardly placed trees in the distance. Also i'm pretty sure this screenshot was analysed about 35 pages ago as well.
[Edit] Page 432, in addition new builds were rolling out every 8 hours at the event so it will be different even now

I didn't say it was! Just that it was such a bad and early image (of spectator/sport mode?) I was surprised it was still up on the website.

I'm trying to help them here!

My theory is this pre-historic build was used at the last minute because of a problem with the planned build. They then fixed it a few hours later.

I don't think so. There were just a bug in trailer. There will be improvement in shadow/car LOD I believe, but not in textures.

Ha, quite. Anyway changing subjects somewhat but since I was reminded about it in the master thread, are we going to speculate/discuss what the location/track list could look like?

19 locations and 27 layouts doesn't give a lot of scope for tracks with multiple layouts, only 8 extra over 1 per location. First of all though, the locations.

These are confirmed

  1. Brands Hatch
  2. Nurburgring
  3. Willow Springs
  4. Unnamed dirt track location
  5. Northern Isle Speedway
  6. Tokyo
Which obviously leaves 13.

This is what was in GT6, minus the 4 above known to return:

  1. Fuji
  2. Suzuka
  3. Daytona
  4. Tsukuba
  5. Circuit de la Sarthe
  6. Indianapolis
  7. Monza
  8. Laguna Seca
  9. Spa
  10. Motegi
  11. Silverstone
  12. Ascari
  13. Goodwood
  14. Bathurst
  15. Red Bull Ring
  16. High Speed Ring
  17. Cape Ring
  18. Autumn Ring
  19. Deep Forest
  20. Grand Valley
  21. Eiger
  22. Trial Mountain
  23. Kart Space
  24. Special Stage X
  25. Apricot Hill
  26. GT Arena
  27. Matterhorn
  28. Sierra
  29. Mid-Field
  30. London
  31. Roma
  32. Madrid
  33. Cote d'Azur
  34. SSR5
  35. SSR7
  36. Toscana
  37. Chamonix
So the question is, which will make the cut? Personally, this would be my guess, based on their GT6 quality. In brackets is where I think the 27 variations will come from.
  1. Suzuka (1)
  2. Circuit de la Sarthe (1)
  3. Monza (1)
  4. Spa (1)
  5. Silverstone (2)
  6. Bathurst (1)
  7. Red Bull Ring (1)
  8. High Speed Ring (1)
  9. Grand Valley (2)
  10. Apricot Hill (1)
  11. Mid-Field (1)
  12. Tsukuba (1)
  13. Autumn Ring (2)
  14. Brands Hatch (2)
  15. Nurburgring (2)
  16. Willow Springs (2)
  17. Unnamed dirt track location (2)
  18. Northern Isle Speedway (1)
  19. Tokyo (2)
I don't think R246 will return for Tokyo, I think it'll be two versions of the new track. Only thing I'm not really sure on is there being only one dirt location, they could add more, and perhaps Autumn Ring or Grand Valley will get cut.

What is worrying though is there really isn't any place for more new locations, or if there are, some big name old locations won't make the cut.

You forgot Seattle, also I'd bet Motegi and Fuji are in.

You forgot Seattle, also I'd bet Motegi and Fuji are in.
But what goes? That is the question, 19 isn't a lot. I left out Motegi because for me it was poor in GT6 and needed work. Fuji not much wrong with it but as I say, you've got to cut sonewhere.

I think it's also safe to assume the circuits that have been FIA Certified will return this time round, Silverstone, Suzuka, and Spa in particular. Brands Hatch is in GTS already, and I can't make out what the other one is in particular.

Bathurst probably isn't returning due to the more "European oriented" GT Sport.

How is Australia not European, they were competing in Eurovision for reals this year! :P

Have driven GT Sports several times this weekend at the 24h of Nürburgring.

The physics feel like an improvement. More suspension movement, bodyroll and stuff.

The tire sqeal is still a nightmare and way over the top. Driving a fast corner with 80km/h doesn't make your tire sqeal..
crashes and bumping into a car sounds exactly like in GT6.
Still a chasing-the-rabbit-type of race but it was more enjoyable due to faster and more challenging AI. But still they are slow enough that you can get from 16 to 3 in one lap of Nurburging (without ramming or even leaning towards another car).
Sounds are improved but still far away from these Amazing sounds of AC or R3E (or the EnduRacer & Blancpain mod for rFactor).

One thing that bugged me was how weird the Nissan GT-R Nismo drove. As if it was a RWD with a weight distribution of 40:60
The non AWD cars I have tested feeled quiet good.

Still no physics like rfactor, AC and R3E. but at least a small step in the right direction.

This weekend showed me that there is no need to buy a PS4 for GT Sports and I'm not really looking forward to it (Only my opinion). I can understand that there are many people that are very excited and want this game. I won't.

For sure there would be at least a new branded track if not more and due the FIA thing, it will be more focused on real tracks.

No Midfield?! Give me Midfield instead of Red Bull Ring.

I liked your review, but don't forget, it's a Beta.

Why the gran turismo 6 cars not coming to gran turismo sport?

Yes that list looks like what I would expect but because they talked about new locations it seems we are in for more disappointment. That is what I was getting at when I said I'm surpised people are not complaining about the tracks. With just 19 coming there will be some disappointing omissions. That said it is to be expected, as much as they didn't want to do it it seems like this is almost a build from scratch game and they don't have a lot of time.

And that is why I keep giving Polyphony so much slack with this game until I see it and then probably still some. Because iRacing has been a 10 year work in progress to get to the point it is at and sure certain things in GTS might not be a meticulously recreated as things in iRacing because those guys are anal about the details but 3D modelling to the standard GTS does it takes time. So while I may want more locations I can see why that can't happen and hopefully more can be made available as DLC later.

Anyway here is the most recent list of FIA graded circuits if it helps speculation http://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/15.10.28_tableau_licences_circuits_internet.pdf

How is Australia not European, they were competing in Eurovision for reals this year! :P

And despite this being an attempt at humour Bathurst does hold the 12 Hour which is a FIA GT3 event and now also is part of the SRO Intercontinental GT Challenge. Apparently Bathurst is a FIA grade 3 track however it doesn't appear on the current FIA list it's status is still recorded on the website and it wouldn't be able to host the events it does without that status. http://www.d3motorsport.com/#!bathurst/c1dxx Perhaps it doesn't feature on the list as it might receive homologation on an event basis but without homologation it would not be able to run GT3 or V8SC.

Over the top tyre squeal is most likely intentional, it is a sim racer trick to turn up tyre squeal in games to make up for lack of real world feedback such as seat of the pants feel. By turning up tyre squeal you can better identify what the car is doing and although the way GT does it it almost seems pointless what it would still do in GT is help with sense of speed and it can lead to the game being easier to drive.

Seems silly but a developer can change sounds and nothing else and people will claim that the feeling or physics have changed.

That said GT sounds make me cringe and I hope by November they are improved but then I'm one of the rare people that also doesn't like Assetto Corsa's sounds.
