Okay, so about the AI...

First time I tried the game, I took the SLS GT3 around the Norschleife, Slick Medium, no aids, AI set to professional. First thing I notice during the race is that the AI opponent are fighting to keep their position. They blocked me, drove faster and when I eventually got to pass them they went crazy fast trying to catch me up. Arrived at Dottinger Hohe I eventually got to the first place (not without multiple fights) but right before Tiergarten a Peugeot VGT went down to the inside and passed me while we were driving at top speed. I never saw anything similar in previous GTs. I only won the race because I dived on the Peugeot's inside at Hohenrain, and even there the AI managed to avoid me.

Second time I tried the game, I took a Subura on the new dirt track. The AI opponent was a modified Mustang. Same settings as the SLS GT3, no aids, AI set to pro. You guys know how slow the AI was on GT6 when racing on a dirt track. Well, that's another story in GTS ! I'm still impressed at how the Mustang managed to stay right at my ass the whole race and during the last lap it took an opportunity to pass me. I couldn't catch up...

Damn too bad I couldn't film to prove you guys how fun that was...

My reservations regarding AI are too old to completely evaporate after one positive review, but I have to say that sounds fantastic.

How were the off-road physics, any better than GT6? EDIT: Answered, my bad. And what kind of specs have the rally cars got? (bhp tq weight etc). I'm dying to find out what they'll be like.

For the Nordschleife I could choose between 3pm and 8pm
How is this thing work? Do you change the track settings or just choose the different track?
I have a bad feeling about it and "27 layouts" after this photo.

That sounds wrong.
But think about it: recording, say, with a camcorder or your phone almost invariably makes the game look worse. The exposure, color temperature, contrast, etc. are usually all wildly different than what they actually look like in-game, there's glare, and the perspective typically isn't 100% head-on so some stuff can look warped. It makes sense that they wouldn't want people filming if most of the footage is going to look like crap.

I don't think anyone complained or judged the graphics from a cam or phone video. People only complained and got mad because PD put some insanely early build in their reveal trailer, so that was all PD's fault, lol.

So, PD are gonna record with a phone?

Zlork give us your impressions, we are dying here

Point by point :

+

  • Graphics (best looking racing game, I didn't notice framerate drop)
  • Physics (a big step forward compared GT6)
  • Sound (better. more natural than any GT)
  • IA (much more competitive and agressive, I won once only)
  • Rally track (this track reminded me Tahiti Maze vibe)
  • Nurburgring (I found it more dangerous than GT6. This track was redone, clearly)
  • Time Day (can choose between 3 and 8pm. Nurburgring at 8pm is just insane)
  • Scape mode (several photo was on a screen)

-

  • Collisions (same than GT6)

But it's not my detailed impressions. It will be for this weekend, I hope.

Still not confidence inspiring. People know not to take too much from bad recordings, and if that's the case, then they should release their very own in conjunction with those making their own recordings. It's just odd to limit such a thing when the whole purpose of it is to show the public.

People record live shows all the time, and post them online, but the viewers aren't going after the bands or the venue because of someones off screen, cell phone footage.

You'd be surprised. This thread is filled with people taking poorly-captured images of the game and speculating about its content based on them.

No. How did... wha-

How did you even glean that from my post? That's not what I said at all. I was explaining why they wouldn't want people to record at the event.

nice screenshots but im not impressed with the game until they change the sounds, also the the online focus, i already have a ps4 but for the people who dont it would be PS4 + GTS + PS Plus subscription every year (sometimes i think the online focus is just a sony strategy to get even more PS plus subscriptions) i think that is too much for 1 game

Concerts are different from games. You can't debate about the graphics or content of a concert.

Thank you Zlork for your impressions ,and now back to the hype train

It's PUBLIC. What do you expect, there was pictures at the event anyway.

I heard some sounds that sound slightly close to the real thing.

They aren't that different. You're talking about diminished quality, and that would effect both situations we're talking about whether it be the sounds of the music, or the visuals of the game.

How does the fact that there were pictures taken relate to why PD didn't want people to record?

Listen, I'm not going to argue for or against PD's decision. I was just providing my opinion as to why they weren't cool with people recording.

Of course a poor recording won't put the game in the best light, but it should be mightily obvious to most people when something is recorded off-screen vs direct-feed. Polyphony deeming any recording off-limits doesn't exactly imbue a sense of confidence in the product. It's quite a lot like movie studios refusing to hold pre-release screenings for a movie, or embargoing reviews until the same day the public has access.

I mean, it's entirely PD's call, and I get the general train of thought (controlling the narrative surrounding your product, making sure it's presented in its best light). But going by what @Cobaiye said, it sounds like the concept and execution are muddled: I don't think fans were bothered by how the footage was recorded at the London event. I think some of them were concerned about the look of the game (which has progressed considerably since). As a reminder:

Or, to put it more succinctly: Sony and Polyphony didn't request all of the off-screen captures be taken down after that event.

Oh wow. Now that is exciting.

You first choose the track and then the time of day (the menu screen above).

  • Time Day (can choose between 3 and 8pm. Nurburgring at 8pm is just insane)

Thank you very much. This was all that was holding me back from buying this game. SOLD!
