Finally !

Lap time : 1'09.618

1. 0'16.343
2. 0'36.994
3. 1'09.618
No tuning

And now, I'll try some tuning thanks to a good friend of mine ! Hope to reach the 1'09.2xx or less...

Great challenge ! Thank you guys !

A little bit desappointed cause turned out I didn't have the time to play -too much work and a wife who started to be really unhappy...-, and I think I won't have the time to play before the deadline so better than nothing...

Great job guys !

You're not alone ;)
 And it won't get better : 10th her birthday, 14th ... Valentine's day (we should think about psp dayS...), and chinese new year with her family and friends who will stay in my house for few days :ouch:... So I might not be as competetive as I would like to but I won't stand doing nothing, I'll try my best cause unlike some of us, when I do a great time, it's because I spent HOURS on the track... !

Hey, my wife's birthday is on the 10th also.
What a coincidence!

Yeah I am happy about Chinese New Years as well.

Challenge # 6 (02/01/2010 - 02/03/2010)

Oh NO !!! I missed it !!! !

Seriously, great challenge but without tuning, it will be very hard... So please... Could someone help us by giving some advices about how to tune this kind of vehicule in that condition ??? Please...??? Only the great lines would be good for me...

PS : your lap times are in the website, I also added your lap times from the previous challenges of this season...

I tried this tuning :

Ride height F/R: -25 / -25
Spring rate F/R: 9 / 9
Damper F/R: 8 / 8
Toe in, F/R: 0.00 /-0.20
Camber F/R: 0.0 / 0.0

I wanted it to be more stable, but might be extreme and I killed the fun of it !!!

Did a 2'15.180 lap time which is not really fast but faster than with a no-tuned car with a better handling...

splits

0'38.617
1'11.190
1'39.373
2'15.180

Still, that doesn't feel right...

Am I heading in the right direction with this tuning ? I'll probably make the Spring/Damper softer though...

Hmmm - missed out on uploading my time, as got my times mixed up and I work nights - drat. Will make a note of the deadline in UK time in advance this time.

You're not alone ;)

Yeah. I know what you guys mean... since I found the TAC challenge my wife has gotten a little grumpy. I'm treating her to a holiday for carnival here so that should calm things down for seson 3!:sly:

Oh and niigaki, some more info on the 5 day please.

I tried this tuning :

Ride height F/R: -25 / -25
Spring rate F/R: 9 / 9
Damper F/R: 8 / 8
Toe in, F/R: 0.00 /-0.20
Camber F/R: 0.0 / 0.0

Am I heading in the right direction with this tuning?

I haven't had a chance to try this one yet, but from the looks of your tuning, you have it slammed all the way down in terms of ride height. I'd lift it back up just a little bit (maybe -20 for both) and soften the springs and dampers just a little to give it slightly more suspension travel. Since it's AWD, I'd zero out the toe settings and see how good the grip is while cornering and how easily it changes directions without sliding, maybe add a slight toe in (around +0.05) for both front and rear.

For the camber I'd do no less than 1.0 front and rear to help grip in the corners.

That's what would suit my driving style anyway. Different things work for different people... for instance, Pitch's Yaris tuning is WILD compared to mine, but he drove very differently, so it works for him. :)

My wife used to get unhappy about me playing PSP all the time.

Solution: I bought her one and she's more addicted to PSP than I am.

She's got one and a Nintendo DS, games for psp, a cat (lol... He dares...)... But easily get bored... I'll try a Wii for her birthday ! But it's my bad, I play too much those days... and my wife is really cool, so when she says it's too much, I know that I went too far and she's right. But now, she's sleeping !!! Psp, power on !

Thanks a lot 👍👍👍!!! I don't have any knowledge about car's physics, I'm learning but hard to find good stuff in french on the web ! Thanks a lot ! I'll try that !

Unfortunately it's not in French but this:

http://www.gpfun.net/public/downloads/files/Docs/Four-Wheel-Drift.pdf

Is one of the best guides to car setup real or sim I have read.

Thank you very much 👍👍👍!!!

Sorry, I wrote one mistake about my tuning -I corrected it-
Ride height F/R: -25 / -25
Spring rate F/R: 9 / 9
Damper F/R: 8 / 8
Toe in, F/R: 0.00 /+0.20
Camber F/R: 0.0 / 0.0
(Toe in and Camber are the default settings of the car)

So I tried the new tuning I was adviced... so more grip, less sliding ! But, not faster... So I tried again with the old tuning (just above) : almost the same time ! I changed Springs and Dampers, more hard (10/10 & 9/9), better : 2'14.473.

Splits :
0'38.333
1'10.404
1'39.044
2'14.473

Glubags you were right :
Different things work for different people
:sly:

Even if I think the default Toe in and Camber's settings seem to suit my driving style -which is not that good :irked:- I learnt a lot about them, they will help me a lot in the future maybe sooner than I think ! Thanks Glubags 👍 ! (I ve got two cars : one with my tuning and one with yours, I will keep on compare them to find out the best tuning for me :sly: )!

BUT, I don't know about you guys ! I might -and will :scared:- be much slower than you...

What I want to know is this... how is possible that Pitch's setup was so fast? Unless I am mistaken (fairly easy to occur as I know nothing about racing), wouldn't you want to have stiffer springs in the rear of a FF car to help keep the maximum grip on the front tires?

PS : your lap times are in the website, I also added your lap times from the previous challenges of this season...

You could also add the times from Season 1 (CLICK HERE) and Season 1.5 (AND HERE) - just a thought!

One thing to note: Season 1 was all done on R3 tires; Season 1.5 we started using S1 and R1 tires only.

Oh, by the way - I noticed on your site that you have El Capitan listed as not being from any specific country, but it is a fantasy course set in Yosemite National Park in the US: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Capitan

The new event will feature 5 straight days of pure racing. The 5 categories are...

Super Battle Between 175hp – 225hp Japanese Sports Cars
Super Battle Between Non Turbo Japanese Sports Cars
Super Battle Between Turbo Japanese Sports Cars
Super Battle Between Lancer and Impreza
Super Battle Between Super GT 500 Race Cars

I got this idea while reading this months issue of Option2, a Japanese car enthusiast magazine that features all of the upcoming and newest parts from Japan as well as car club events and such that are sponsored by the magazine itself. Basically I am trying to figure out what I want to do next to my 350z. Anywho, I am still double checking each of the car lists that I have taken from the GTP thread of the official car list of GTPSP.

To make things kinda of creative, each person will choose a car tuning company to be sponsored by and come up with a creative team name with your sponsorship.

IE Team Rays.jp or something rather. It's all in fun. At the end of this, the winner will win a free month of Premium Membership. I know it's not much but its a little incentive to strive to become the top driver for the event.

...and to further add to this: my birthday is the 10th as well.

👍👍👍
Happy birthday, Detroitbb!

I've no idea.
My settings are similar to Pitch_'s.

Edit:

Nice sig, niigaki.

Currently playing - 3rd Year of College.

If a car behaves strangely or feels twitchy / a handful to drive then 99/100 the set up is wrong regardless of how quickly you can lap with it (short term).

A good setup will be a pleasure to drive and will essentially feel like you are driving the car rather than fighting it.

Note: Cars with obscene power to weight rations can be an exception.

Finally had a chance to try this one. I rarely use AWD cars so I figure this one will prove especially challenging for me (same with the FF Yaris challenge which was no easy feat).

Ran a very conservative 2'13.359 on the third lap. Still need to find all the braking points but there are several on-track references to help commit them to memory, so that's good. I really need to learn the ins and outs of this car's handling characteristics; it's very different from what I'm used to. 👍

Not sure what to expect from top times here considering it's such a long course and every corner of that 2'13 lap leaves room for improvement. I'm guessing we'll see 2'11s.

I was going to... By the way the S1.5 is amazing !!!
Official Season 1.5 Car List

C1 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR '04
C2 - Toyota WOODONE TOM's SUPRA (JGTC) '03
C3 - Nissan Skyline GTR SpecV '09
C4 - Spoon CIVC TYPE R (EK) '00
C5 - Toyota Trueno (S.Shigeno Version)
C6 - Nissan MOTUL PITWORK Z (JGTC) '04
C7 - RUF CTR2 '96
C8 - Subaru IMPREZA Sedan WRX STI ( Type-II ) '02

I love those cars !!! I missed this one ! And the sound of the WOODONE and the PITWORK are a symphony to me !

One thing to note: Season 1 was all done on R3 tires; Season 1.5 we started using S1 and R1 tires only.
After reviewing it, I would say that your fine. To be honest, it's not like the shortcuts that a certain member was taking during last season.
But I want to know more about those shortcuts/drivers first... I'll put your times because I know you guys now but the others... ??? The top 5 should be ok but I am not sure... any help ?

Thanks for your lap time Glu, it helps me to know where I am and where you will be :sly: ! Did you use the settings you advised me ? Or change a little bit ?

No problem! I ran quite a bit softer on the spring rates and dampers, -12 for ride height, 1.5 camber front and rear, and found the car to be very prone to body roll. I'll probably end up lowering the car a bit more and stiffening the suspension and see if it still turns in as responsively as before... if so, great... if not, I'll try to find a good middle-ground between stiffness and controllability.

But I want to know more about those shortcuts/drivers first... I'll put your times because I know you guys now but the others... ??? The top 5 should be ok but I am not sure... any help ?

You don't have to worry about it.
They were taken out of the points & lap records.

Thanks psp88, I am on it ! And then on my psp ! -got one hour before going to work !!! Manila Philippines !!! We are neighbours !

I have to check which physics were used for the 3 first challenge, if the photo doesn't show it, no entry unless you -if you are concern- can show me a picture of that time with physics.

There are a lot of names...
