If being released before Christmas then yes I would expect a date.

If not then who knows. If the production slot story is true then they will know now the next slot, so I suppose it's feasible.

Probably they have to convince others to move to another slot .... and u know that takes time .... unfortunately :indiff:

due to current status I changed my avatar again to the one from march/april when PD and sony delayed the game already...

another idea for the delay reason:
there are rumors that the ps3 has finally been cracked...
maybe PD and sony are trying to implement a better copy protection on the disc...
of course they can't say this officially because then they would admit that the ps3 has been cracked...

Can't see that happening, would you delay your product for someone else.
Atleast they will definitely know the next available slot when ever that is.

So whats taking up the production slot that GT5 was going to be using?

Havent got a clue, maybe they've got the week off at Sony's expense?

Personally I'm sceptical about anything said by them.
Just throwing out speculation on speculation I guess.

No rumours, it has been cracked and with a USB device you can boot games from the HDD.

Unfortunate really, I feel like it is cool for the homebrew communities but when the software comes with the option to boot games off a HDD you know what most people will use it for 👎. That's why Sony pushed firmware 3.50 out and now they say if your unlicensed USB device no longer works then too bad :grumpy:

From what is on the front page, the rumour seems to be that to beat piracy the game will only work on 3.50 firmware or newer and if you have older firmware you will be asked to upgrade. Whether that would cause a 3 day delay or not I don't know.

I was told that 3.50 makes it so the USB ports start after the XMB loads. That was how it worked is that the USB would start first and then you could boot it. But now it's the other way around.

A friend of mine who manages one of our local EB Games/Gamestop stores told me her system updated today with a release date of "January 1, 2011".

Having worked for EB Games/Gamestop a number of years back, I can say the system updates very frequently (unless things have changed). Not sure if this is a placeholder date or the actual date though.

"According to Softpedia, news of delays filtered through only yesterday. In a recent tweet from Kazonuri Yamauchi, Gran Turismo’s game lead designer, it read, “It’s because time and labor were spent ironing the kinks out of the games complex system. I’m really sorry. Everyone, it’s inexcusable.. Wait a little longer.” This follows on with a feeling of sadness for consumers having to hold fire!"

In such a bold decision being made to delay the game, Taku Imasaki, the game’s executive producer has commented that, “We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday. Realistically, we thought we had a good date. We’re not happy over here.” He went on to say that Sony is now, “Shooting for it to be out by the holidays. You won’t see too much more delay.” In the game’s new offering, you will see some 100 new tracks, 20 different locations, night racing will become available for GT5, new weather conditions, as well as new vehicles such as Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ferrari’s new 458 Italia and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG “gullwing”.

Can someone explain to me why people keep posting either a) rehashed, slightly reworded quotes from every random small news website around the web, and b) "updated release dates" that don't make any sense whatsoever (Jan 1 being the best example, since most stores would be closed and nothing ever launches on a Saturday)?

An actual, official statement from Sony themselves or PD are the only things that would bring some weight to proceedings. Not that a new release date could be any more solid than the last one...

Didn't have time to read through this thread so not sure if anyone's already said this but here in New Zealand I had a preorder for the CE version and recieved an email from Mighty Ape that GT5 is delayed and the revised date is 20 Dec '10 but was subject to further change. Definitely still hoping for a pre-Christmas release.

No info on release date. But Kaz did say you will have it in 2010.

that he did. man, i miss the countdown thread. we would've been at 15 soon.

it'll be nice if it's a global release date at this point. unless there's restrictions in areas that games can't/don't release on certain days of the week.

If I were Sony, I'd take every remedial action possible if the manufacturing rumor were true.
Every copy of the basic edition, every version of the collector's editions, every console bundle would get their packaging (minus the game disc) assembled, if that hasn't been done already.
Then I'd go for time at the BD plant any which way and lock down the release date. If there's games or movies that aren't projected to make high release day or holiday sales, I'd get them delayed or their production numbers cut to make way for duplicating GT5. Failing that, run the plants on overtime.
Then I'd prioritize the first batches to every person who still has a preorder out for this game. A staggered global release; honor all the preorders first, then go out to the store shelves on later dates.

This is my first post and a pile of wishful thinking, but I couldn't think of a better start on these forums.

Also, 1/1/11 is just a placeholder in Gamestop's database and means absolutely nothing.

I doubt this, seeing as that's a Monday.

I am rather new to the GT series... started with GT4 a few years ago. I noticed someone mentioned that they are not surprised since the same thing happened to GT4 (multiple delays)

So my question is, how many times was GT4 delayed. Is this something that they like to do at PD/SONY?

Sony is notorious for delays and extra long production times. My favorite gaming series (SOCOM) has never had a title release that didn't get delayed.

I agree 100%, that's the only way they'd gain some loyalty back, meet the preorder numbers first because that is guaranteed money, then make up for the rest.

Yeah, I know - pretty sure that's just a pre-Christmas place holder date. I'm assuming Mighty Ape were told by Sony NZ that it will still be released before then. (fingers crossed anyway).
