Kinda like card counting in Vegas, it's not cheating yet not allowed.
It still kinda sucks, because in real life you have to use the clutch in most vehicle, yet in GT (the real driving simulator) it's not allowed.
I understand that some of us can't afford wheel with clutch but it's not fair to exclude clutch. For ex: you go to a race and your budget can only afford a stock Nissan 370Z and your competitor can afford to put all kind of performance parts in it, are they gonna kick him out of the race?

Yea but that's not really the point of this particular competition. GT Academy and the NA Time Trial are designed to find the best driver period using EQUAL equipment. Not who can afford the more expensive wheel in order to go the fastest, even if their driving technique isn't as good.

After all, Sony/Nissan will eventually be putting another GT driver into a race seat, so they're of course going to want the most talented/fastest guy when the equipment is equal. Not the one who can afford to spend another $100 to beat the non clutch driver by only a tenth, when their lap would have clearly been slower had it not been for the fact that they had the capability of using the clutch.

True, even tho they want it equal shifting for all people and all kinds of wheels and controllers, the really hardcore crowd should get the upper hand.
One reason, the person with a DUAL SHOCK should not win the competition, that shows he is good, but he does not really care on how to drive a car with a wheel.. to get most feeling out of it.

But wait, are some of the 370z models sequential?

I agree TA, but now they will find a driver who may have no clue how to use a clutch.

On some track/car combos a clutch isnt useful, if fact it may hamper your ability if it a real technical/tight track where 2 hands on the wheel at all times is an advantage. BUT with Indy have massive straights, a clutch is surely going to be an advantage, even if a small amount of time is lost in the infield because of less smooth driving inputs due to using only 1 hand.

I personally was driving a road car at 14 with a manual transmission (I love WV back roads!) and I had an 1989 Pontiac Grnd Prix that was a manual, and it was pretty much a race car  That turd was awesome!

I was going to mention that. But again, it is more important to make the TT a level playing field for all, especially when the wheel promoted by PD is the DFGT which has no clutch.

Might I add that a driving simulator is much different than driving a real car at the limit anyway. Even if you can get the absolute most out of a car in a game around a given circuit, doing so in real life is much different for a number of reason. And the biggest one has to be your level of confidence and cajones when you put your life in danger on a real track behind the wheel of a real car.

I doubt that the clutch ban will change the top 20 much as the fastest drivers will still be the fastest even without the clutch.

Well honestly, I would love to have a wheel, but I can't honestly bring myself to dropping 100~+ dollars on a wheel, just for a video game. I've got my controller, and it's fun enough. I would like the full feel of the driving, but then I would rather just go drive.

IMO it most certainly could have a dramatic affect, especially IF the clutch was worth say .5 a lap. It could easily be the difference between advancing and not advancing, especially in the countries which are VERY competitive toward the top of the charts (Spain comes to mind)

Well that's the difference between being serious about GT5 and competing in GT Academy...and not being serious about it. None of the top drivers in GT got to the upper echelons of TT'ing without being dedicated to their hobby/gaming, putting in A LOT of effort and time to improve.

Exactly, If people are really super serious about winning to become a race car driver, dropping 120 dollars for DF GT is nothing compared to real life race car driver life sacrifices.

Besides GT5 will about out within 3-5 months.. saving a little a day will certainly get you 120 dollars for a wheel.. Trust me playing GT game with a controller is only half the fun and half the experience. It not that hard to get 120 bucks these days. heck I was shoveling snow for few days just to get a PS3, and in no time i got it. For my Fanatec wheel I worked on side jobs as construction with my father, hard work but heck worth it.. Saving a dollar a day will get you the wheel by the time GT5 is out :)

I'm all for a chance at going to Indy and all, but I just don't really want to go out of my way that much. If I had the available funds, I would, but like I said I couldn't be bothered right now. I'm having a blast with my DS3

Also I know the racing driver sacrifices a lot more, but if you're serious about becoming a race car driver, you aren't going to sit in a room waiting for another GT Academy challenge to hit the net, rather go and compete, and get your racing license.

Yeah play with whatever you like, my point there was not only for you but for others that complain about 100 dollars being too much money these days. But if any of your friends, or if you ever have a chance to play GT5 game with a wheel at friends house or any other event, try it out, it will change your mind. 👍

With the taxes, a G25 costs about US$ 500,00 here in my country, a Driving force GT goes for US$250, even so I'm considering a G25 a good deal, if it is really good as everyone here say. I've got to decide which one until the end of January, otherwise I will spend the money in other stuff...:dunce:

Anyway, it's almost the same money I've dropped in my slim PS3, really expensive for a wheel.

I don't know... the clutch is worth around half a second a lap. Think of all the drivers hovering around rank 30-50 in the normal lapboards that don't use the clutch, they 'could' be challenging for the top spot.

They will still be fast without the clutch, but not necessarily the fastest, non-clutch users could leapfrog them.

One or two hundred is nothing.

PS3-$599
New TV-$3400
New Sound System-$2900
My own race setup-$400-$450
New G25-$300 (R.I.P. the old one)

I spent all this because I knew GT5 was coming, but damn I did not know it would take this long. :dunce:

..another video from EUROGAMER :sly:
Doesn't ANYONE drive without the stupid driving line? I know it's a new track and all, but come on.
And I really can't stand the twitchyness of the (virtual) wheel like this. Looks like the driver is having a stroke.

Can't wait to try it out myself (on a wheel ofcourse).

Otherwise this would have happened ........

*snip the video*

And if you click through to youtube you can see the piece of equipment the guy used to do it.

Well, that's a Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (double clutch tranny for Richard Hammond), though it seems to be in the wrong car.

There always will be those who do anything to make it to the top by any means, no matter how "gray" they are. I'm thinking of heating up the rear tyres by handbrake in Forza 2. Disgusting? Well, open to debate.

Really, I only asked for the clutch because I'm interested if it will work with a G25 in GT5.

As well as the H_shifter.

Whos going to be the first here to break KAz's lap time, so far in all the videos i've seen people are well off. I guess GT wasn't easier to drive after all, lol.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it off Amazon (or one of the online outfits) and have it shipped over to you.

I was lucky to buy the G25 at a local computer store (minutes from where I live) and for $250 (CDN and tax included). At the time it was equivalent to around US$200. The only added cost was the taxi fare home.

no, because you have to pay import taxes, that's why it's more expensive in 1st place

i live in uruguay (next to brazil) and i bought a used G25 for US$270 (new costs US$360)

Crazy fool must be using the D-pad and not the left stick, or he's terrible with the left stick, who let this amatuer get the demo early?

I have to say suspension simulation is vastly improved. Note the vibration on fast cornering and under braking. Grass texture seems to of gone but background is better.

I've been there in person and other than the color of texture, PD got the track spot-on, especially the Tower Terrace. Good job, PD.

I'll have to give some grand kudos to those who can drive from that cockpit view. It looks even worse than in Prologue that you're driving from the back seat. The view of the road is a little over 20% of your entire viewing area. Yuck... and with roofcam gone in the Time Trial, looks like I'm doing the chase cam thing.

Sure hope it's back in GT5, or I may be spending all my pleasure driving in GT4 and Prologue...
