Sometimes I wonder if it shouldn't...

It used to be, and there are plenty of posts deleted even today which have "Off Topic" tags.

The thing is that discussions, like language, are organic. They grow and spread in wholly unexpected ways - like any discussion about GT5 will usually include FM3 and vice versa. Unproductive branches tend to wither and die all by themselves while productive ones will grow onwards and upwards. If no-one is being told to fudge themselves or foxtrot off, there's little merit in clipping the wings of a topic people clearly want to discuss.

If everything in this forum was required, rigidly, to talk about nothing but GT5, it'd be a lot smaller. And calmer, I grant you.

However, I will add a caveat below:

PS if being off topic is not againts the AUP, then what rules are we breaking and what power do you have to keep a thread on track! (I think I have found a loophole here haha)

We have a catchall:

You will, if asked by a representative of the forums, cease posting any content.

Basically, if we think a discussion topic is going to be unproductive, we can nip it in the bud with a short "Back on topic, please" note. Not because the topic is the only thing permitted to be discussed, but because it reminds everyone that we're here for pretty much the same thing - because the thread title was interesting enough to draw us in to discuss the topic of the thread.

It's a fun old life, being a moderator. There's fine lines everywhere you look.

Just think though, in 31 days, there'll be a huge influx in this forum of people asking for prize car lists and wondering why they can't do "x" event. And you'll all look back on this and laugh. Meanwhile, my computer will be off.

Did someone say 'off-topic'? we need some order up in here.

The angriest genitalia I've ever seen....

At the beginning of the Enzo video where he hits the Viper from behind, I still can't understand what exactly happened to the Viper. :dunce:

watch the replay, the Enzo lifted the viper off the ground just like in e3 trailer hahah 👍

guys, guys, guys guys.........IT'S OCTOBER! ONE MORE MONTH TO GO!!!!!! here comes teh painful final stretch but guys.....ONE MORE MONTH TO GO!!!!!!

because Forza is much better:dunce::dunce:

before anyone shoots me, that was a joke
Forza 3 is just a updated version of Forza 2 , and the interiors are s**t and the damage and the handling model . the tuning is the best bit and takes up most of the games capabilities

How can forza have 500 cars with fully modeled interiors in so much less time than GT5? I know Gt5 has very high standards and all but it doesn't seem like it should take THAT much longer.

So how does forza do it?

If you see the engine bay of the F40 in game in FM3 and then see the F40 in GT5P you may understand.

How is the top of that Ferrari and the hood scratched so much: /, did it flip? If so wouldn't the damage be much much worse on Ferrari?

You do realize you're talking about one of the most anal car manufacturers in the entire world, right? You're lucky to get that.

Yes I understand, I was just hoping those scratches on the upper half of the car weren't caused by front end collision or wall scrapes.

Then for the working adults with children, life goes on as normal. In some cases GT5 will slip the mind.

Most likely were. I honestly can't tell as I haven't played the game in a good month or so and my memory of the damage is fuzzy.

I stopped reading this forum at 2pm and come back now to discover it's Famine-picks-a-fight-with-everyone-night.

Hooray!

P.S: Any GT5 news?

Point taken Famine But sometimes it's realy messy and hard to keep up to date. I'd hate to have your job :/

It's a laugh though.

Sometimes.

No, really, I promise.

Come back?

Are you ok? You don't seem very happy tonight..

If you look carefully, I have been cracking jokes throughout the last... however long it has been. Errr... Thursday?

But if you want to head on over with therapeutic beer and a video of the 1991 League Cup Final, I won't stop you.

Alright then 👍

Damned! Some epic fights there with Famine again! Nice.

On topic: I start being really unpatient regarding new, essential GT5 news. Come on so much magazines and expos there and nothing new...

We're liable to see a few demo videos over the next few days, punctuated by the occasional magazine preview right at the end of the month when they're all published and we don't care because we just want the game.

Well, however they do it, someone mentioned the Prologue credits listed 31 car modelers. That is still 31 cars at a time, 62 in a year if each person starts one and finishes six months later.
You're looking at Kaz's timeframes too literally.

Sure, it may take a car 6 months to complete start to finish, or a track may take two years. However, I can almost guarantee that someone isn't working on that specific car for 6 months straight.
Some of us were expecting that timeframe to shrink a bit in later interviews, but Kaz is still talking about each car taking six months to model to this day.

How this process works specifically is a mystery. FoolKiller's assembly line could be the method. There could be masters of tires, wheels and brake structures, dashes, seats, engines, etc. They work on one basic element of a car, and when finished, send the model data to the next person in the line.

But it's also just as likely that each modeler is assigned a list of cars to create from scratch. This person would get to know one car inside and out at a time, and spend up to six months matching polygons to real world precision measurements. Or they could do a few at a time to take an emotional breather from a job which is getting tedious. I have noted that many desks have a few specific car models on them, and many of them dismantled to reveal the interiors. Remember that they're modeling the guts under the hood and skin also.

However the process works, I hope there's a video done on GTTV detailing this, or a Blu-ray included with the games. A history of Gran Turismo, giving us a peek behind the curtain to the incredible ordeal these awesome folk have been enduring for the past five plus years.

I have to agree with you Tenacious... The PS3 is & was a far more open architecture than the XBox 360. Microsoft are still trying to profit from all their 120GB & 250GB HDD's today. With a PS3, you can go and buy any suitable OEM part for much less money. That's a good thing seeing as KY has stated GT5 will warrant a 10GB install to deliver the best experience. There'll definitely be some 20GB PS3 owners out there, somewhere...

Sony engages and partners with many companies, obviously to make money, but Sony does not go all out to pay for exclusivity. Not these days. All these exclusive franchises appearing on PS3 today are made by Sony owned developers.
In fact, I have a 320GB drive I bought last week, but am waiting for a long window of time as I doubt installing the thing will be a 30 minute process. Could be wrong though. However, I'm way chuffed that Ken Kutaragi, that mad scientist, was so forward thinking that he gave us off the shelf options for our PS3's, and built in so much capability. I spent half what it would cost to get a new 360 250GB drive.

And I'm also pleased at the PS3 developer community, between SONY and their partners sharing technology freely between them to make all their games even better. Very non-monopoly thinking. ;)

Isn't there supposed to be some magazine with a hands on, that released on the 30th of september?
It was, but it was just two pages of the GamesCom event, old news sadly. Print mags going over details of GT5 itself will have to wait for the end of October, though online goodies will begin popping up over the next few weeks.

So, if you don't want any spoilers, be careful what you click on. ;)

^ You're making my 40 GB PS3 sound ancient. I'm really shocked how quickly the PS3 HDs have grown. I got mine around the time Prologue came out.

Physical installation takes no time at all. The data backup and restore process is a different story, based on how much you have on your current HDD.

But you can do a backup of your current HDD at any point when you go to bed and then take the 30 minutes (at most - seriously it is five screws total) it takes to switch the drives soon before bed on another night so that the restore can take place while you sleep.

But I did let a friend borrow my external HDD to do his switch and I think in all total it was less than four hours of us drinking and planning our Web site to do everything.

like I allready said, it was a joke..

I've never played Forza, I (or any of my friends) don't own a xbox :D

That is also the reason I realy don't care if Forza4 will be better than GT5.
I would never know ;)
