The delay will be a matter of weeks. It seems like they've known about this for a little while and have seen whether they can get it ready before print day, but it seems not. I doubt it will be more more then a couple of weeks.

Really? I'm betting that it's all Ben Collins' fault. Ben Collins jumped ship with his ill-advised autobiography, which has forced the BBC to find an alternative. If the BBC are rebranding the Stig, GT5's Stig-heavy content would be out-of-date before it even hit the shelves.

[Kim Jong-Il] Screw you, Ben Corrins [/Kim Jong-Il]

That'd be classed as a "production issue" and a "complex system" (Stig's Challenges, for instance) in the game.

All because he decided he wasn't being paid enough to be a fourth-tier racing driver, despite actually having a regular income - which is more than most racing drivers on any level manage. He probably should have had a character merchandising deal written into his contract in the first place, knowing what happened to Perry McCarthy. But no, he has to hold Top Gear and GT5 to ransom...

How do you know he is the reason? Maybe Sony and PD didn't even give a 🤬 about that, as do I. Oh noes we have the Stig Challenge in the game although there is no stick anymore since 2 months=who cares?

I didn't say I knew - no-one does. I said that's what I'd be betting on.

Using something out of date, like white Stig, to push sales is dense. PD aren't dense.

You probably have more understanding of such things to assume this but I still do not think that anybody would even care.

GT5 delayed because of the stig?? I don't think so....

The only stig related content will be that stig challenge thing. And Ben Collins wouldnt have been needed for that. The stig never talks.

The white Stig is a copyright of the BBC not Ben Collins. He has no intellectual property over the character or its affiliates so I'm doubting thats the issue. It may be that Topgear have a different coloured stiggy.

No, but if the BBC need to rebrand the Stig, PD would be left with out-of-date assets - white Stig - which may be still under legal dispute too (as mentioned above by marchi - there is at least the makings of a "use of image" case, even if it'd be a bit of a reach). Pushing the game with out-of-date assets is dumb - PD aren't dumb - imperfect - and we know what's always said about Kaz's rampant perfectionism - and legally questionable - and I doubt Sony want another Siena.

Nothing to do with him speaking. Plus it fits all the otherwise-contradictory statements - that it's due to a production issue, that Kaz is tweaking and that it's due to "calming a complex system".

This.

Wouldn't the white stig be a TopGear asset and not legally tied to Ben Collins?

Either way i see your point but surely that would be a relatively quick fix. And the Ben Collins incident happened ages ago so they would have had plenty of time to change whatever they had to.

Largely, I'd agree. I'm no lawyer, but the BBC is packed with them and I doubt that Collins would have any chance of success if he brought a case. However, all he'd need to do to tie everything up would be to bring the case - if his lawyers have been active and pursuing a case recently, GT5 would be either delayed for the duration of the case or safe with white Stig removed (damages would be between Collins and the BBC - GT merely sublet the image and, presumably, have already paid for it).

The same arguments that were brought by him prior to the book's release could be used - as the person portraying the character, his behaviour is part of what generates the image and the image is what makes the BBC money. They wouldn't need to be successfully argued to balls it up for us all.

Once they know what the BBC's intent with the Stig are, it'd be a quick fix. But they're already well into duplication - any change now means losing 2 weeks (or more) of final copies and that'd mean they either meet the deadline with a shortfall (manufacturing issue) or they'd need two weeks of delay, which is what we have.

Either way, we've now had a few posts of talking about the Stig instead of people wanting to fly to Japan and pelt Kazunori with bricks. A welcome break

"Yamauchi apologized to fans today and explained that the reason for the delay was that it was taking some time to finalize some of the game's more complicated systems."
Complicated systems?I bet it's about mixing standard and premium cars, or tracks.

Hmmm sounds a bit like ‘omg what am I gonna tell ‘em….err hmmm err I know I’ll blame the guys in production’.
Well I have a lil’ thought of my own………..
Maybe the Russian delay has upset their plans for a worldwide release and so they have delayed the rest of the world until they can release in Russia.
I do hope this is not the reason for the delay but it just seems funny that it worldwide delay comes just after the anounce ment of problems with the Russian release.

I suppose when I said "In Russia, Gran Turismo delays you" the other day, I apparently wasn't kidding.

Yeah ok. In hindsight my suggestion about a free-roam 'mini-city' was a pretty stupid idea.
Oh god........just had a thought.......what if the reason for the delay is because Kaz likes that idea and wants to include it?
EEEEEEK!! I'd get lynched by all the GTP members!

If Yamauchi use his brain they should have just chop it to DLC all the feature that they want . Well good news Gt6 will not take 6 years but only 3 years :-)

I'm still looking forward to November 2nd. Once we are there I will start counting down to the next release date. More than 40 days of waiting seems like an eternity.

It can only make the final game better and we still have Prologue. :)

GTP blog
a Sony Canada spokesperson to Reuters Canada, clearly stating that “production difficulties were to blame for the delay”.

I do think it is slightly unfortunate that the spokesman is called Fukuoka... especially seeing as how he lives in Canada...

I'm relieved a bit by this 'production issues' excuse, I hope it's something like that cos that surely means it really is a short delay only. I'm desperately hoping it is the 26th November as someone else stated, I come back from holiday then so it wouldn't make too much difference to me that it had been delayed at all :P

Fingers crossed guys, I don't see it being later than December for sure! :)
