Bottom line is RUF is basically a Porsche. They take a Porsche, and they change some stuff and call it their own name. They don't make their own car, they modify a Porsche.

They all look the same, whether their Porsche's or their RUFs,

But aside from the effect of the drivetrain, they drive quite differently, because of the amount of modifcations RUF make to the car, including the chassis, suspension, aerodynamic changes to the body etc.

Whether we do or don't get Porsche I still want RUF, I recognise them as a different car brand.

It would be fair to say however, that RUF would probably not be as successful as it is today without Porsche. It would also be fair to say that we would never have seen RUF in Gran Turismo were it not for Porsche. If Porsche had been in GT from the beginning, I don't think PD would have pursued RUF as early as they did. They were trying to fill a gap, hoping the similarity with Porsche would have a positive impact on the game. Which is partly true, but it doesn't change the fact that they are completely different to Porsche, and have no connection with Porsche's great success in Motorsport, most notably Le Mans.

This just in!

A worldwide protest today regarding the lack of GT5 news has quickly spiraled out of control. News reports of multiple GT4 disc smashings and GT5P online races deliberatley being disrupted with what is now believed to be called "punting". We'll report back with on field coverage with Charles shortly...Back to you.

Care to explain to me how taking an unmarked chassis and building their own independent work, all done in house, into the car is considered "changing some stuff"? Last time I checked I checked, RUF is a certified Manufacterer.

But let's face it, if there was no Porsche, there would be no RUF.
Let's make sure we know our history, mmkay? Because RUF was a brand name 30+ years before Porsche came into their world as a bus maker & station operator.

Had it not been for Alois' work in the automotive world, Alois Jr. would have never found an interest in it.

Again, let's check facts before spouting off.

I've spoken to Jacky at RUF's US-department several times on this subject and he has walked me through each time as to how the process works. When RUF build their own car, it's not like when COBB Tuning or Nismo work on a car.

Porsche send a basic shell over & an engine over to RUF. That's it. RUF disassemble the engine, build it back up with their work. Most of the other stuff is bought to keep that Porsche-essence, b/c Alois Jr. feels Porsche is the perfect basis for a sports car, and tries to keep that same presence in the car.

It's the exact same process as to how the SLR was built. The only reason that car was called a Mercedes was because McLaren got screwed over in the contract.

So it's a little more than what I thought. But let's get back to the beginning of it all. This Alois guy.. he thinks that's a perfect basis for a sports car. What was it again? Oh it was a Porsche

Basically the perfect sports car is in the eyes, or hands, of the beholder, or driver. Ferrari have been said to make the best sports cars. Porsche has been said to make the best sports cars. Lamborghini have been said to make the best sports cars. McLaren have been said to make the best sports cars. Lotus have been said to make the best sports cars. Shall I go on?

It's all in a feel of a car, in which case it's up to the drivers. Porsche may make good sports cars, according to many. But some may say they'd rather have a GTR. Some say the GTR is too video gamey and would rather have an F430. Some say the F430 isn't their cup of tea either and would rather take a V8 Vantage. Some would take a Gallardo. No single manufacturer makes the best cars or sports cars. Good models yes, but the whole line up? No. Personally I'd rather take an LFA over any Ferrari or Lambo, because I like Toyota, and from what I've read the LFA handles as good as any of the previous car makes and according to Scott Pruet, even better.

Let's just hope GT5 has Ruf's along with the Lamborghini's and Ferrari's. We already seen the SLS the 458 the Gallardo the McLaren F1. I'd assume we get the new MP4, the Murcielago, maybe the 599 GTO and LFA?

If PD can't get Porsche then I hope they will unleash complete range of actual and historic RUFs this time. RUF even imported older Porsches in US so I hope to see them as well.

I think a pig is a perfect basis for a sandwich. It ain't called a pig when it hits my mouth though.

I thought last night...
If GT5 have premiums and normal cars.Premiums are race cars with damage and parts falling off (very detailed)...sooo.....what about tuning? In GT2 we can make "race car modification".Kaz says "tuning will be very detailed".I mean how about conversion from normal to premium via tuning?Or maybe tuning will be different for those cars? And if tuning are so detailed so for example i can loose my rear wing in normal - tuned car?
It's interesting how they mix those cars in one game...

(maybe it's mentioned before but i can't find topic about tuning strangely)

Again, speaking before we think.

Try understanding the key word, "basis", in your post.

I a tired of waiting...:banghead:

If you have a (working) Xbox360 or can afford to buy one, I'd recommend Forza Motorsport 3 to pass the time.

I find the physics, sound, AI refreshing - different & definitely worth a go.

Running the nurburgring sector challenges in an A-Class Porsche is a hoot!

👍

If you can keep an Xbox running long enough.. :grumpy:

For 2 weeks. Then closest word is "boring" but it isn't enough."most boring game i've ever played" little closer."boring as hell" maybe this.
And controls.They are late.Lag is unacceptable.GT5p don't have this lag.At all.

Bottom line is, RUF = RUF, Porsche = Porsche, RUF != Porsche. Seems like that has been cemented now through facts, so I'll move on.

Funny that Forza 3 was just brought up - I spent a bit of time at a mates house over the weekend and he has an Xbox 360 with said game. I've played it before, and I knew what to expect, but [UK] ANDYW is right. If you have one already, it's worth playing to pass the time, but I wouldn't buy one just for the privilege.

I've never noticed control lag.. at all, maybe its yet another MS fault! (On your xbox)

I agree that if you stick to the dumb calendar career mode, it's really boring, but I just pick & choose from the event list (as horribly basic as it is) and have had a lot of fun racing against the AI.

I also find it interesting tuning the cars differently, and making the most out of each class.. this alone gives the game a bit of life.

But as always, this is only my opinion, but I do think a lot GT fans will enjoy it - while they wait yet another several months before GT is released!

^^^ No man.Just play more.
GT5 - almost no lag.like PC sims.60fps!Almost perfect.
Dirt 2 - almost no lag.Even at 30fps!Great feel i say!
FM2 - very little lag.Acceptable.60fps.
FM3 - noticeable.Even at 60fps!maybe it's "steering buffer".
Grid - little but noticeable lag.30fps make it even worser.
Shift - unacceptable lag + 30fps and you out of track constantly.really need to adapt.

I certainly dont like the sensitivity of the controller - it does needs more input than GT5, but I cant remember it being delayed/lag.

I'll check next time my Xbox is working!

Just play them all!And more you play - more you notice it.
Again you need to play different games to compare. For example Halo 3 and Killzone 2 have very noticeable lag.Even wii games have it.
PD have a great job.I even don't know how it worked so perfectly at this graphics...
