GT6 Career Mode, Thoughts?

Hi all,

Having seen the new info released for GT6 yesterday, I was wondering what everyone's opinions were on the new look career mode? It seems to me that it now takes the form of the licence tests, having to complete events in a set order to gain stars?

Not sure I like to sound of the 'stars' to level up, seems similar to how GT5 is now and I thought Kaz said he was removing the levelling up system and even the PP ranking for cars?

It's an interesting new take on the career mode and I'll reserve judgment until we actually play the game, but the Career mode is the most important element of the GT series and it should be totally immersive.

Ta :)

Still not enough info, number of events, how they are constructed, also SP is useless with Gt5's AI...still not very good felling about Gt6 A-spc. Need way better variety then what gg5 had, with varying lengths, pit stops, qualifying......

Looks bad so far, to be honest. 'Novice' had 3 events, and one of those events only had 2 races. The star system, it looks pointless to me. A way to prop up an anorexic career mode. What happened to just getting gold on an event? Why not do it like older GT games, let us get a license that opens up a large portion of races and let us choose which races we want to do first, instead of making progression so linear, as well as forcing grinding.

And from what I gathered the Goodwill Hill Climb may be the only special event, with more special events promised through DLC...

Im also worried the endurance races may be dumbed down. Theres talk of 'experience a full endurance race in a much shorter time'. Sounds to me like we're getting the 2.4 hours of Le Mans instead of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Have few races is my fear, I thought the same thing when I saw the image.

Let's hope everything will be ok...

Yeah, I'm glad it's not just me that's a bit concerned. I'm hoping for a nice long and varied career mode, a bit like how GT2 and GT3 used to be.

I also agree that there is nothing wrong with the bronze, silver and gold options - not sure I like having to aim for a target time either. I'm going to have another look on the GT website at the screen shots and see if I can ease my fears.

I love idea. I hope Jordan will ask my question to Kaz about number of events.

Question for Jordan to Kaz : How many events (in career mode) will include in Gran Turismo 6 ? I hope there will be many more than Gran Turismo 5.

Thank you in advance. To be honest, this is my only fear on Gran Turismo 6

Gt5's career mode was pretty in-depth, was hoping for a much larger one in GT6, so far only 3 events in novice? Dissapointing, looking forward to more info!

Going by what we have seen, alarm bells are ringing. The events in GT5 were underwhelming. They should put every event from the previous 5 games in this version, then we have something to start with. The amount of cars they put in, there should be races/events for every class. Manufacturers events should be back as well as more special events.

I think they are going to put a lot of emphasis on seasonal events.I don't have a problem with seasonal events I just hope to god we don't have to chase the rabbit anymore. With basically an infinite amount of races coming from seasonal events, I don't mind 40 or 60 races in career mode.It will suck for people with out internet though, but that sentiment is pretty much becoming the norm..Another thing i'm worried about besides potentially chasing the rabbit is the absence of manufacturer races..

Not sure what's wrong with PD...it doesn't take much to come up with some good, varied challenging events...We'll unless you are PD. I am not getting GT6 until I see first hand if a-spec is drastically better.

Pretty in depth compared to what??? GT5's career mode was horrendous.

That's my attitude at the moment, I want a lot to do from day one, not the promise of more, 6 months down the line. Hopefully there will be more information released to prove what it actually does have.

I don't mind if GT6 career mode is updated to add more events as things progress, in fact I'd quite like it to keep things fresh. What I do hate, is in seasonal events you earn way too much credits. Part of the fun is having to start with a low budget and work your way up through the ranks. It makes deciding what car to get in the initial stages of the game crucial... That's just my feeling anyway. Hopefully the screen shots are a work in progress...

My initial fears about the lack of bronze, silver and gold rewards/finishing seems unfounded as on closer inspection the images, it appears a blanked out trophy is present to be filled in by said colour above.

I'm also a bit worried based on what we've seen.
I share the concerns raised here about the number of events, shortened endurances, etc.

The stars also look a bit weird to me. A big cluster of stars on each set of events looks a bit clumsy for the lack of a better word. We'll see, maybe there's a good reason for using those instead of showing the number of gold, silver and bronze...

I'm sure Kaz said that he wanted to improve the career mode from GT5 so hopefully there will be more events than this in each difficulty.

It's not necessarily just about the number of events... it's the plain linear progression of 'career mode' (if you can even call it that). BORING. None of the events are interesting enough to repeat (other than to grind for credits). The A-spec events need some replayability, some type of a game within-a-game season mode. Throw some variability into it. Add persistent AI rivals, instead of encountering a grid of anonymous racers with randomly generated names. Spice it up with in-race bonus challenges like 'race cleanly for the entire race ', 'pass X amount of cars in a lap', 'record personal best lap time' to gain bonus credits/XP.

A-Spec simply needs a whole lot of life injected into it.

THIS.

But without turning this into another moaning thread, I hope the career mode has more to it than what we've seen. Plus, I don't feel that novice should be dumbed down... just lower power cars. If people want it to be easier, turn on SRF lol.

I hate excessive whining, so I definitely don't want to turn into THAT guy ;) Kaz has his own vision of what the game should be, so I definitely respect that, with offline career mode not being a top priority.

Having said that, judging from the new screenshots, it looks like PP restriction is part of A-Spec races now. So 'newbies' can use cars that are right on the PP limit, and more experienced racers can use less powerful cars for a bigger challenge, and potentially get a PP bonus. So this is a step in the right direction.

It seems to be pretty much the same gameplay as every other GT game, that is; Licence Tests, Sunday Cup, Coffee Break etc. What I would like is licence tests & race events modeled after real world ones. Licence tests that encourage you to drive safely & cleanly, & not just time trials that encourage you to divebomb other drivers. Events that are named after real world race events & that have a similar formula & championship points system (I'm not 5 years old PD, I don't wanna be patronised with gold stars thank you very much). Personally, I'm sick to death of the fantasy style offline gameplay & want more realism. I'll probably be doing the bare minimum to get cars for online racing, that's where the real racing will be if the GT Planet race organizers have anything to do with it.

I get that we are moving into a more online experience for most people now, but the career mode is still a major part of the GT series for me. In truth, it's loyalty from GT1/2 that's keeps me coming back and not moving to games like Forza. Having said that I do agree that a points system, ala F1 championship would be better.

A concern of mine too. I wonder though if this is their way of saying the FF>> feature is back.

I agree with you Zlork that career mode will really open up after the first couple tiers. I would personally like to move on after a few races in novice to be honest and really dive in when the difficulty level increases.

Yes. From the screenshot, it appears as if GT6 will have a really short amount of events. But it's only a screenshot of Version 1.00, so... I dunno. Maybe PD will get their heads together and realize that GT6 (just from the screenshot) is going downhill.

Career mode is the most vital part of the game, (unless you got GT5 just to drive the Zonda R) and I'd hate to buy GT6, only to be disappointed with this new career mode.

Im hoping what ever car we start out with, the Sunday Cup matches the car. For example, I start with the Shelby GT500. The pp for the AI cars should match that instead of me versing Fits and Vitz.

The races have regulations now. Which imo already makes it TONS better than gt5 a-spec.

Didn't think about it like that, but even games with those .. features I guess, didn't have much replayability.I think literally every racing game I played I did each race once, and if I did race them again it was just to race because I couldn't race anywhere else or something along those lines. But its not like that with GT because of Arcade mode and now with GT5 and GT6,seasonal events, we have an infinite amount of races.I wouldn't mind a better more realistic progression through the career mode, but I don't think its really necessary. If they did however try to make a more realistic or storymode like progression they would need to go all out, like Grid 2 ( but better to be frank lol).Start out with cheap garage and cheap cars etc and work your way up to professional level. If its any less than that I don't see the purpose.

From the looks of things, it's not looking good, but then again, Kaz & PD still have time to iron out the A-spec events, Specials, and Licenses. But after digesting so much information and continuously analyzing the trailer, i have a feeling that the Career mode will turn out to be decent. I think it will definitely be better than GT5's Career mode.

I hope that the star system is not going to be implemented into online as well. I hated how I couldn't join some rooms in GT5 during the first few months until I got to level 40. It was pointless since some people just use x1s to get to level 40 in about a day while for others like me it took a few months. The star system is the same thing, instead of numbers, there are stars. Other than that, I think the career mode has been greatly improved and am looking forward to it.
