GT6 Career Mode, Thoughts?

I hate excessive whining, so I definitely don't want to turn into THAT guy ;) Kaz has his own vision of what the game should be, so I definitely respect that, with offline career mode not being a top priority.

Having said that, judging from the new screenshots, it looks like PP restriction is part of A-Spec races now. So 'newbies' can use cars that are right on the PP limit, and more experienced racers can use less powerful cars for a bigger challenge, and potentially get a PP bonus. So this is a step in the right direction.

Assuming you are right, and Kaz's vision is that offline career mode isn't a top priority, I respectfully submit he needs some very thick glasses to correct that vision. The majority of people still play offline, otherwise we would have thousands upon thousands of lobbies open online each night, instead of the couple hundred we actually had. Not completely overhauling the offline aspect of this game in real terms, but adding bells and whistles and frilly lace instead, is a major mistake if it proves true.

The races have regulations now. Which imo already makes it TONS better than gt5 a-spec.

Didn't think about it like that, but even games with those .. features I guess, didn't have much replayability.I think literally every racing game I played I did each race once, and if I did race them again it was just to race because I couldn't race anywhere else or something along those lines. But its not like that with GT because of Arcade mode and now with GT5 and GT6,seasonal events, we have an infinite amount of races.I wouldn't mind a better more realistic progression through the career mode, but I don't think its really necessary. If they did however try to make a more realistic or storymode like progression they would need to go all out, like Grid 2 ( but better to be frank lol).Start out with cheap garage and cheap cars etc and work your way up to professional level. If its any less than that I don't see the purpose.

races have regulations now??? Sweet, needs qualifying and yellow flags though, and mot importantly variety and great AI.

How are the stars calculated? That's my question. Is 1st worth all the stars, 2nd slightly less, and 3rd the least? Or are stars based on your overall driving performance? The website is incredibly vague and while I do think it could be a decent system, there certainly needs to be more than three events per class otherwise the career will only take a few days to finish. Hopefully that was only for Novice and the higher classes will have more events.

What i see on the GT website is, that b-spec, course maker and the other stuff in the "update" categorie will not be there on release? Would be really uncool.

My assumption (and hope) is that there will be at the very least as many A-Spec events in GT6 compared to GT5 - more would be ideal, but I don't hold out any hope that the actual format will change very much. One of the differences being we get 'stars' instead of XP; their purpose seems almost equivalent. I would guess that stars are awarded based on what place you finish in a race.

The stars and number of events certainly worries me. The stars seem like a direct replacement of XP, still limiting what you can do. I won't mind too much if no grinding is required, ie a new race always unlocks after finishing the last one. Not like the XP system where you had no choice but to grind the last race you did to unlock the next one.

Im also worried the endurance races may be dumbed down. Theres talk of 'experience a full endurance race in a much shorter time'. Sounds to me like we're getting the 2.4 hours of Le Mans instead of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Nope.

For example, the Le Mans 24 hour race in the game will actually simulate the rise/setting hours of the sun and night-time constellations in the sky from the event in 2013.

It seems like each race will be worth 3 stars, probably depending of the finishing place. I guess this is done as a easier way to manage than medals.
That way, on Novice there is 8 races. 2 on Sunday Cup, 3 on Amature Cup and Novice Championship.
It seems that there is space for another event on the list, without scrolling. Mabye other levels have more championships. Also it seems there is space for 18 stars on one single line, that problably will mean 6 races on some events.

But in the end, I'm pulling this out of thin air, so we can have either a few races or more than hundred. Only PD knows how many races we will have in career mode (and maybe not even them know ).

I'm not going to comment on this in full until we get more info.
But it does seem a lot like GT5's XP system, which I was indifferent about.

Yep. Unfortunately it's looking that way.
This is why I will have to what for reviews. Fooled me once last time when I purchased day 1. I won't make that mistake twice. I can hold out weeks after the release date. I will have the PS4 to hold my attention.

Christ, you guys are overreacting. You only saw ONE screenshot that detailed the number of events in one tier. The amount of events obviously increases per tier. For all you know,Kaz made 20 tiers with 10 extra events per tier!

I think GT6 should absolutely avoid the main flow of GT5 carreer:
When you have beaten all the available races/challenges/licenses, the next one must become available.

It is ridiculous to require gamers to redo tens of times races they already won to unlock the next ones.

I haven't seen this screenshot with stars and I don't want to see it, my greatest hope is that the career mode will have at least semi-strict rules like GT2, not like GT5 where "Classic Car Championship" meant "Chaparral 2J Curbstomp", and that there will be loads more in the way of events, with more added permanently through updates and seasonals that aren't BS slipstream rabbit challenges.

Not having gotten any new information about the AI worries me much more than the amount of events as far as the career goes. They can always add new events through seasonals but with the crappy AI of GT5, no amount of events would make any difference to me.

It looks rather weak, frankly. I'm sincerely hoping that they aren't counting on Seasonal Events saving another poorly thought out career mode.

I hope it includes rules of racing. And I would like to see tests that teach basic handling of cars.

I'd love to see the final exam be an on-line race against a set number of players with the same (theoretical) abilities.
The race has to be completed cleanly. Your finishing position does not count as much as HOW you run the race.
The game shouldn't let you out of the learning/career mode until you pass the final. Of course this will never fly. LOL

The fact that PD has not said anything is a bad sign...They could come out and give detailed on career mode, bumber of events, types of events, championships. My expectations are low.

Have you ever thought of the chance of opening up new events when completing one / getting enough stars? It sure isn't like PD to have so few events.

The amount of events obviously increases per tier.
It's totally obvious you must've had hands on experience with the game pre-launch to know something such as that. I mean obviously, right?

For all you know,Kaz made 20 tiers with 10 extra events per tier!

The screen shot for the user interface section on the official site confirms only 6 tiers. If all 6 tiers have only 3 events, that's a total of 18 events. Nearly three times as less events GT5 had for the A-Spec mode alone.

So far this is what was said about Career Mode.

Although I wasn’t able to spend any time in the game’s new Career Mode, U.S. producer Taku Imasaki was able to share how the overall gameplay will be structured. In the earliest stages of the game, it will be more linear than what we’ve seen in the past – start here, do this race, etc. After you’ve proven your competence behind the wheel, the game will open up into the more traditional open-ended, choose-your-own-adventure format that we’ve seen in previous Gran Turismo games.

In contrast to GT5, we´ll get 10+ new circuits and it would be a major letdown if we get small No. of events. :/

PD aren't always the smartest, but they know they wouldn't have around 18 races or so. And calm down.
