That's a good point to start examining the code - do you happen to have the data for the Daytona 24, too? Would be interesting to compare the two, too. How would the boost table be manipulated is the the next question, because it seems that the race pace is influenced by a set of parameters - what? Influenced by Player gaming data? And if so, what are the optimum parameters to be fed in? As well - does the AI deteriorate, or improve as the race goes on?
If the AI appear to be balanced out at a standard at the beginning of the race and maintain that standard then it is only the cars that would differentiate their overall behaviour and speed - for instance, the guy driving the Chromeline gullwing should be as fast as the guy driving the E-Type if given the pole, but would be only as fast as the 300 SL would be as per the simulation. Other than that, there is also the 'temperament' of the drivers to consider - are they programmed to be 'hot' or 'cold', as was the case with the B-Spec AI in GT5 - or are they all set at a median 'reactivity'?
I'm also finding that while in certain races the AI can be 'bland', in others they can be very 'aware' of the player's presence and will react accordingly.
More digging required?
I managed that, too - but, by gad, it was worse than herding a flock of seagulls!
My time was atrocious, though, somewhere in the high 12:00s, and I didn't even bother to record it, though I think I may have saved the replay.
It was great fun, though, and really brought out all my driving skills, especially in the battles with the leaders - because the game simulation isn't hampered by the sudden halt to the game after the first bang (which no doubt would happen IRL
) you can afford to maximum duel with the AI - and they are pretty strong, too - so it's like a continual stitching together of rubbin'-is-racin', paint-trading, fender-benders, brake-blocking, apex--diving, side-swiping, sling-into-the-sand spinfest.
The 300 SL that MTM picked was a great car for this exercise - an immensely confident car - the first of the Mercedes-Benz Super Lights, and when a few performance enhancements are done - wow. Just a stallion that knows the range.
I'm so glad to hear you're having fun with this event.

Well-deserved. Haven't raced you at COTW for weeks now, hope you guys are having fun - live rabbits!
Yes - if you mean if anyone came up with a time of 00:00:00, that would still be considered a 'close shave'. We don't see the rest of the zeroes posted, but the 'stewards'
calculate faster than thousandths of a second and know who got there first.
I think they work in gigahertz.
New? As in - another one?
So back to the track for me again then (any excuse
), yes - challenge is to get a one two Merc win, and be first, and be faster than all other Players.
What did you think of the car, MTM79? Did the 300 SL perform? How did you find the run at the Ring?
