..and we need a public product for them to do that why?

They don't need a public product for it. I'm just saying that it could be a plus for PD and Kaz after all of the complaining I'm seeing in GT5. I don't think the complaining is justified, but that may be because GT5 is my first GT game. Think of it as a rough draft, if they try to do too much, there would be negative feedback because of bugs, especially online. Sort of a "consumers in control" feeling about it. I, and this is just me, would like to see PD and Kaz do a beta field test, then a sneak peek prologue, then the full game. Just all need to have the online functioning, to try to iron out bugs they get with high server traffic. Remember, to everyone really, this is all IMO. A lot of these are, and the feedback I receive, it feels as if my opinion is getting criticized. Thanks for listening.

PD seems to have a pretty solid idea of what they want the game to be, and are pretty set on not taking the community's advice on it. See the sound issue.

I'd rather they just skipped the Prologue and pretending that they care what we think, and just give us the game.

PD has been lucky to get away with pretty impressive sales figures with the two previous Prologues, and it's mainly because of the timeframe at which they came in the life-cycle of PS2 &3.

Now we are likely looking at a new console for GT6, I don't think it's justifiable for any regular racing game enthusiast (or even the most hardcore GT fan) to pick up the new system for a Prologue/Beta... it's not really gonna work this time.

No matter what, I know PD will likely learn about a bunch of programming flaws and online server issues within the first months of release, but I'm confident they'll be quick with releasing updates.

The only way I'd support what you're suggesting, is if PD put a Free Demo (I guess I'd pay up to $2.99... but $3.99 would be a deal breaker.. jk) at release so they can play with the final code before pressing the discs. But those darn discs better be sitting on store shelves within 4-6 months of PS4's release...

GT6P? Wasn't it called GT5? If they took GT5 and put more tracks and premium cars in it, added decals/color-options and would improve the user interface and add something social like Autolog, they would have way enough stuff for GT6.

There's money to be made from "another" Prologue though...

Because i think 2014 is too early for gt6 so they bring out the gt6 prologue instead, maybe used as a boost to sell there new ps4 console. I don't think they will have the full game developed in time.

There was a prologue for GT4 and GT5 so my guess is that there will be a GT6 prologue.

There was a prologue for GT4 because it was delayed and they needed something to appease their customers. There was a prologue for GT5...I'm not sure we were ever told, but I suspect the intention was probably the same, keep customers happy during delays.

What does this tell you about a GT6 prologue? That if we get one, it's a very bad sign and we probably won't be getting GT6 for some time.

2014 would be four years after GT5, that is sufficient time. We shouldn't just accept 5/6 years as the norm after GT5.

I read somewhere that gt5 was built not only as a game but as a platform and an engine that could be expanded upon for future gt titles meaning much shorter development cycles that could hopefully be as short as forza's when they get everything sorted out. I mean Forza 1-3 came out inbetween the release of gt4 and gt5 if I'm not mistaken so hopefully there will be no need for a prolouge and if there is one I hope it isn't something you have to buy but something like an open beta where it comes with a few tracks and cars and is released six months or so before the full game so that the community could find bugs PD could't and their online system could be tested.

They've had over two years of that with GT5. If they haven't worked out what we want by now then they won't get it with another prologue, especially when one wouldn't introduce any main new features anyway.

Polyphony? 3 year development cycle? :odd::odd::odd:

Up to Tourist Trophy in 2006 the longest gap between a release for Polyphony Digital was 3 1/2 years for GT4 and no others were over 2 years. Source. I get the feeling that PD lost their direction this generation and had too many ideas between GTHD, GT Vision (was that seperate from GTHD?), GTPSP, and GT5/P. That doesn't mean they can't reorganize and become an efficient studio again. So yes, they can release a title every 3 years especially if they drop the idea of Prologues or other small spinoff titles.

If PD releases a Prologue I would take it as a joke.

Why? Developers are money hungry these days...in general.

Do you all really think that when a game is "finished", or is claimed as finished, and has a release date BUT suddenly they change the release date because of unexplained reasons, is just because they missed the "window" to print those discs?...No, it is all about to grab more PRE-ORDERS (the cancer of this "gaming generation" and future...sadly) and make money out of it. It is a way to ensure them that the game will sell.

What is a Prologue? It is an unfinished product "demo alike" made to grab money which is going to be used for development of the upcoming "real title" or "final version" (which in this case we are still waiting for it). And we all buy it with a huge smile in our faces at the price of a full AAA product.

GT5 was "finished" (at least the version we got) 2 years ago and counting...and GT6 development will be an upgraded version of GT5, based in the same engine, using tons of features included in the game and "Premium" cars. (the "Premium" word was an excuse to have 2 classes of quality cars in one game...GT5 cars are those "premium", other cars are GT4 past gen cars...of course we all know that)

I just made maths, GT5 development costed about 60 million euros (80 million dollar), is one of the most expensive gaming franchises close to GTA series, which per game the development cost is a little bit more for GTA IV for example than GT5.

They sold 9.1 million copies of the game. Lets just say that 4.5 (half) was sold at release price = 60€. 4.5*60=270.000.000 euros. Right? It is way more than this the actual number.

So 270.000.000 less those 60.000.000 = 210.000.000 in profits.

Then you have to pay the rights to Sony because it is your publisher and it takes between 50% to 70% of that and 30 goes all for the one who made the game. Which is PD.

Okay lets take 70% of 210.000.000 = 147.000.000

Money that goes for PD is the rest =30%= 63.000.000 goes for PD. That´s the benefits

With that PD pays salaries, rent, taxes, etc.

But don´t forget that the one who puts the money or most of it is also Sony not PD. Sony invest on PD´s work that´s why Sony also takes the major part of it. But PD just has to do the job.

Believe me or not game industry works like this. (EA takes 70% that´s why I used that number, of course as an example...how do I know? Because SMS which is making pCARS told us about this, and this was the model they used at first, we put 70% like being their publisher and them the rest, the original idea was to fund the game at 100%, so they spend nothing...)

Now why I came up with all this stuff, because sometimes a Prologue is needed IF the funding is not enough to pay your checks. Have in mind that PD has tons of cars in the game and you need expensive licences for tons of them...(TONS of them), same happens with tracks, and you have to pay for everything.

I am not saying that this is "regular", that this is "fare" to us who want a full game experience...I´m just explaining why this happen.

Now and again...I said NO, because this time the game has half of the base in what GT5 is and the upcoming title will have most of the licences covered (paid), the graphics engine will be ready and so on...in resume it won´t take too much to develop this game and it won´t take as many resources as GT5 took.

So NO it won´t be a prologue...and if it comes out...it will be a practical joke to us.

They now have the money and the base to make this game and make it fast. (Having in mind that 2 years pass away)

SO SORRY FOR THE HUGE TL DR POST. It was just to explain how things work instead of "Bla bla bla" just to put one more comment in the count.

Interesting read thankyou.

I will agree with all of this asude from the $ which yout using as an example.

I fear the money grabbing will get worse.

Here's a poll about an hypothetical scenario in which GT6:Prologue is released today, for the PS3. You happen to see GT6:Prologue in a store Today and you have the console already, would you buy the game?

There are two positions about this matter:
- Nay: Forum posters writing 'GT5 was GT6's prologue, I want GT6 to be finally finished and not another unfinished game, I won't buy prologues', 'I don't want to pay twice. I'll wait for the full game instead'.
- Yea: Prologues serve as a paid sneak peak, which is better than waiting 2 more years without getting anything. The newest Gran Turismo released years before, just with less content.

The only assumption is GT6's Prologue will be released 2 years before the full version of GT6. Customers can't know how much after the latter will be available, but it's reasonable to think it'll be in 2 years.

My opinion in spoiler tags, not to influence voters.
What I think is what the 'quoted' opinions show is not a moral principle but customers wanting more GT and soon. They don't have a conflict with the concept of paid sneak peeks: their problem is GT6 taking so long.

Concretely, if they see GT6:P on stores they will buy it. It's a new gran turismo right in front of them, which makes Prologues objectively better for customers than getting nothing for the next 2 years.

I voted yes as I have absolutely no problem with getting a prologue. It's something else to do and as you say, will give a glimpse of what can be expected.

I'm not so sure that the two year figure is that hard and fast though. I mean I didn't get the GT4 prologue, so have no idea how long before the release of GT4 it was. GT5:P and GT5 were, I feel, an exceptional situation.
