GT6's Online Mode

I'd like some matchmaking/quick race things, and car clubs and online championships will be interesting to see how they're implemented.

And some better search options for open lobbies.

I'll also be interested to see if they've improved the connection and stability problems that plagued online in GT5. As a person living on the arse end of the world, connection quality impacts my play experience greatly.

I would love to see matchmaking, Preferences would be nice, "Clean" and "dirty". And an I am check "Pro level", "Intermediate level", "Amateur Level"

I would like to see more leaderboards. The fact that most arcade racing games consist of far more leaderboards than GT5 remains pathetic. The sad thing is I have a horrible feeling GT6 will still only consist of seasonal events.

Lastly I would like to see pre-set lobbies like they have in FM4. For those who don't know, in Forza 4 they have hoppers and one of these is called "Cycled Production hopper". This is a pre-set rotation of 30 track/car combos where everyone is racing in the same stock car. What I especially liked about this is the level playing field and how it was your skill that determined how well you did rather than your car/tune. Most importantly though I enjoyed how it only took just a few secs to jump into a room and race online.

This is my only gripe with PD because at times I feel they are rather out of touch with modern gaming. This might be due to the fact that online gaming is more popular in US, Europe than Japan. Personally I would even go further and have leaderboards for all the GT career races. You would have far more motivation to replay events for credits if you have your friends laptimes or race time to compete against.

I think everything you suggested is great. Especially the one make races. We need some of those!

  • New communities
    • Very little to none idea
  • Club feature
    • Clubs have their own leader boards, event calendars and rules
  • Race Organizer feature
    • Tools to create a repeatable season with points system for drivers, hopefully for teams
  • Open Lobby
    • I hope some evolution here, more filters for finding good room
  • Custom Event Creation
    • Create a racing season and invite players to join the championship.

The only online feature I need is to be able to create a passworded room for myself and my brother.

I think private rooms will give you what you want. Instead of a password, you will have a unique id for the room that only you and your brother know. Someone would have to guess it to find your room. And the chances of that are astronomically low.

I'd like to see a place for to meet up online to arrange races. Modnation racers did a really good job with their online 'hub,' but honestly a few big chatrooms would do about as well. Along the same lines, maybe allow more people in a lobby than can actually race at the same time (say, 20 per room). A full lobby of 16 will probably have a handful not able to race (for whatever reason) at any given time.

Adding a more detailed 'description' area along with title could help a lot. What are the lobby's rules? Assists? Limits? People cram what they can into the title, but that's really not enough info when browsing lobbies. A lot of times I'll go into a room advertising a certain PP level in the title, only to later find out they have a rule against race cars. I shouldn't have to join a room and enter a race just to find out that I'm doing something wrong.

Additionally I should be able to filter my lobby search based on any restriction that can be set. If I want to search for sports tires only, 500pp or less, and traction control disabled, I should be able to see which rooms (if any) meet that.

Also, why not have my system itself filter out naughty language and let me set the level I'm comfortable with? Maybe even let me edit the word list in a parental control menu.

I forsee a few potiential pitfalls..

The frequency of disconnects, lag and frozen screens. You could have the best options/race or league setup facilities on the net with GT6, but it'll be pointless if the poor level of connectivity (or connection issues) remains.

Secondly - "sharing events", I hope there's an option for the event owner to share (as per their descretion) rather than anybody being able to 'take'. There's alot of people out there who are more than happy to let others do the work then come along and take something that someone else has spent alot of time working on.

Online championships - lets hope it's run better than the Time Trials - one important factor for championships is that they are only as strong as the rules and people enforcing the rules. As soon as people know someone has found a way of breaking rules to their advantage, it'll be a huge turn off from the legitimate participants.

As always - it's a case of suck it and see what we get initially, then how PD develops it. It could be fantastic, awful or average, we just have to wait 3-6 months to see what happens..

There's always going to be an element of subjectivity here - organisors and participants, new organisors and experienced organisors will probably differ in views, needs and wants..

There will be a matchmaking mode, dubbed Quick Match. Not on release, though, but will came later on update :indiff:

All that was said was that "Community" features were going to launch later in January. I expect everything else to do with online racing to be live as soon as GT6 officially releases, including Quick Match.

How do the two correlate?

If a person has created a league, wouldn't the team(s) be more personalised with matching liveries? That way, with recorded replays and photographs, the teams could then be easily identified!

Having similar cars with mismatched liveries is un-professional to some people. Even if the cars are different to each other, there would still be a team element to it if the team members had a team livery!

That would be a good idea, but one does not necessarily need the other. Teams already represent themselves with matching paint on their cars, and PSN names.

Having said that, either features would be great additions to the game. One, the other, or both.

Let's see what the future holds.

Why not just make it private?
I was doing online with my brother a few days ago in GT5 and I didnt see an option to make the race private. Not only that but the connection was very unstable even though I have 150MB/s internet connection

Just go to your lounge.

I -think- that is referring to the mobile devices portion. I could be wrong however...

Does anyone else think its pointless having a league creator without a livery editor?

Work it out... 💡

How does a "League Creator" equal "Team"? Those aren't the same! Why would they need matching liveries?

A League is something like S.N.A.I.L (sorry, only example off the top of my head) racing where they're a group of buddies, but not necessarily a team as they're racing each other. A Team is a bunch of people who race other teams! Like @Streeto asked, how do they co-relate?

If we have the tools to build our own race series, then why wouldn't we be allowed to paint our cars with racing livery's? The two fit perfectly!

They fit perfectly to YOU, not to me so I wouldn't call it "fit perfectly". I only see a livery worth it for a team. If all cars had the same livery, it would let them stand out among other teams.

A league on the other hand, a different paint job or something (if that) is all that's needed.

Well leagues have teams so.....

I personally would not like to see them put rules or restrictions on it. Let the event organizers decide. I've done hundreds of these league races. And I can tell you that in GT5 we've jumped through every hoop imaginable to try and make it work well. Just give us the tools and let us run the races the way we want. That's all we're asking for here.

I thought they were all "tier" based, not actual teams.

Anyway, we'll never see a custom editor - that could get outta hand real fast. Look at all the other games that have custom emblems/editors, they have some pretty profane stuff on them. Either PD would need more employees to watch them all, oorr, just not add it. What makes more sense?

EDIT: We all know what a joke the report button is on the PS3, that's no help.

I'm not quite sure what your talking about anymore... But what I meant was that you could just put a racing livery with vinyls and sponsors just like real life.

What makes more sense is to start simple and assess. In the first release, they could have allowed us to put numbers on the car, and only numbers. That would have been a great baby step. Can't write or draw profanity there. Second iteration could have added racing stripes in fixed locations on the car. Ditto. Third iteration could have experimented with the option of allowing racing stickers. Again, ditto. Fourth iteration could have experimented with allowing custom stickers using profanity filters. Might have worked. This can be done gradually. That's my point.
