I've been a loyal A racer for years, and the no rating thing has pushed me away from it.
One reason is that your accomplishments don't get rewarded. I got 2 of my accounts to A+ by doing A races.
The other reason is that too many people are just looking to smash other drivers, due to no consequences.
B & C are the best bets now for getting legitimate races.

The idiots running the dailies are losing customers for PD.
It's funny isn't it? Race A often gets stick, but in reality it's the only race actually using the variety the game has on offer (when it's not a Roadster or GT86 😂).

I don't mind running a few non DR/SR races to check my pace, but when I got my first Porsche win today it felt totally empty!

At least half of my wins have been in A races. I really liked the challenge of getting these nasty, wobbly, crazy understeering, crazy oversteering street sport cars to go quickly around a certain track. Lots of practice laps went into it, because it was always new, and I loved the diversity.
Same here!! I dedicated my Monday evenings to countless practice laps in whatever stupid car they had us driving that week. I love Group 3/4, but racing cars on controller always feel slightly out of my grasp, and suddenly with road cars I feel that those top times are somewhat nearer my abilities.

I notice the same switching back and forth.

PS4 this morning was very clean, no dumb moves, people backing out to give room not to slow each other down or create problems in corners. Even 'dirty hour' has been pretty gentle on PS4.

PS5 in the early morning, don't bother, at least not in the Americas. Matchmaking is so poor SR B ends up in the room and behaves as the SR letter suggests. The SR.S players aren't much better through.

Late morning, early afternoon is decent but you still have some bad apples intentionally trying to get people off the road. For example stick a nose on the inside back bumper in a kink on the middle straight to get by... The PS5 crowd also seems more conditioned to dive bombs as there are a lot more people constantly 'defending' the inside, slowing both of you down. And if you take the outside you get pushed off. Also generally more quitters on PS5 compared to PS4 races.

Evening races are hit and miss. One evening I had the dirtiest bunch in months in my races, last night it was decent. Not as clean as on PS4 but not bad overall. Still a lot of dumb moves, just seems the people that stuck to PS4 are more experienced in racing. On PS5 I saw a lot of attempted overtakes in places where there is very little chance both survive, on PS4 far less of that. On PS4 I haven't had a single issue with people braking out of place, on PS5 I keep a bit more distance as some still brake where there is no reason to brake at all.

And yep, I had the same feeling when I first switched to PS5 this week. The races there evoked the road rage feeling I haven't felt in ages on ps4. Also the only place where I got intentionally T-Boned before we were even at the start line. PS5 also the only place where I ended up with BS penalties, 3 times from idiots fighting in front of me then can't avoid them all when they crash each other.

But now you have the luxury to avoid the idiots. If it's bad on ps4/ps5, switch to the other crowd

Great time btw! I managed a 7:10 once lap 2 in the Lexus with slipstream. I can get it round in 7:12 with clear track. (No idea what I can do under qualifying conditions, I don't want to screw up my rhythm by driving without fuel weight and tire wear :/)
My theory is that most of the PS5 players are teenage boys whose parents got them to play with, because a)that’s how they behave, and b)only a parent would spend that much money and time trying to acquire one of those unicorn machines for their child. On a side note, I’m neither a child nor a parent, so I can afford my extravagant bachelor life . . . .

So what’s the deal when I’m doing Race B the other day and I’m holding my own at P4 on the first lap only to have a heart attack as not one, but TWO ghost cars suddenly scream through the lead cars at the little S before the last turn and blow up on the wall before the turn?! I mean it’s like they were actual Tomahawk missiles and not the SRT variety. It absolutely blew my focus and threw me way off my line only to be overtaken and punted at that same turn. What accounts for that?

Was the 7.50pm (uk time) race B. You’ll have to look at his time on the race menu top right to find it as the stream is still live so can’t time stamp it. Rewind it about 55 minutes from now I guess. It’s not pretty viewing.

Well, swerving in the braking zones usually leads to problems. And if you're paying attention you notice that @sturk0167 doesn't overshoot the corners where Mr. Streamer claims he was trying to punt him. It was taking the outside line that was given. First contact was basically a racing incident in my opinion, but never dirty. If he wanted to be dirty he would have opened the steering and sent streamer boy to the wall, not kept his line and let him keep going.

I love Group 3/4, but racing cars on controller always feel slightly out of my grasp, and suddenly with road cars I feel that those top times are somewhat nearer my abilities.
Exactly. Race A was what encourages people nervous about online racing to think ‘I can do this’. Going straight to Gr3 or Gr4, longer races sometimes with strategy, is pretty intimidating for newbies, even if they’ve been driving in single player for years. Getting used to all the idiots and their blocking and punting is best done in slower, easier-to-control road cars.

Back in GTS I was really reticent about the online stuff, had tried to get into it a few times and had almost given up on it completely, until one particular race came along; I remember it clearly even now, Camaro SS at Blue Moon Oval. Loved it, played it all week, got wins. Without that one race I’d never have ended up with the 91 wins and 330-ish races need for the Platinum. But. Without DR or SR there’s now no incentive.

@sturk0167 lots of abuse getting thrown at you by your favourite streamer this evening 🙈. I was pretty shocked at some of the stuff you were doing tbh. Presuming you’ve got a history with him.
Yeah, Kie hates me.
If you're an athlete who constantly talks about how lousy another team is, then when you play them, you get smacked in the mouth, don't be surprised. :ouch:
I first got into it with him months ago, when he was brake checking me at Suzuka, and I wasn't tolerant of his tactic.

I've seen him a couple of times since then, without incident. Today, I saw him at Sardegna. I didn't even know he was in the race until I saw him around lap 2. Check the video again. I ran into him when he was swerving like an idiot in the braking zone, because he thought I was gonna do something. I wasn't, but his changing lanes forced the issue. I didn't intend to hit him, but didn't mind doing so.

His commentary about American racers is partially why he gets blasted every time he shows up. Plenty of people I know will punt him on sight.
My man in Ohio knows what I'm talking about. ;)

Plenty of other streamers have lots of my respect. His attitude is the problem.

Nevertheless, I know he's faster than me, but he's also much dumber. :dunce:
I'll see him again, and he'll get what he earns. ✌️

Oh yes, that’s been my experience as well. First time on pole, at the Red Bull Ring, I managed to run wide at the first 3 corners and drop to last place.

This time I decided to just run it like a 4 lap TT, no mirrors/radar/look behind. Worked well but on lap 2 I glanced at the standings and saw I somehow had a 5 sec lead - promptly binned it at the next corner and halved the advantage. Stressful last couple of laps. Hopefully it will be better now I’ve got number 1 done.
It won't be.

That is a great way to put it. I was thinking the same thing. He spends 25% of his time with the "Idiot Americans" and expects anything different? The name off that stream was, "USA Daily Racing, Let The Chaos Begin." WTF do you expect? He purposely goes there looking for a fight and then squeals when he gets one. As the saying goes, "Talk ****, get hit."

Oh, and after the infamous Suzuka race, where Kie made a special video edit to show what jerks me and @BenRod are, and a bunch of his dead-behind-the-eyes followers sent us hate messages, I sent him a pm to explain my side of the story and call for a truce.
He ignored it.
So 🖕 that dude.
He may as well delete his American account.

I bought one for myself but my oldest is using it far more  He doesn't like racing though, plays Ark and Rust with his friends which runs like dog **** on ps4.

That's lag gone wrong, probably out of order packets which the game has a hard time dealing with. Sometimes you get a car that's zipping all over the place leaving sparks and dust everywhere while shooting back and forth. And sometimes you get a car that takes a couple corners at impossible speed before disappearing. The game desperately needs some sanity checks.

Similar experience here. I hadn't played any video game for at least five years (the PS4 I play on is not mine, it's my daughter's😇). Never had done any online gaming; nada. I was super reluctant to try it, but then there was the Renaults at Tsukuba, and I gave it a go. Had decent results immediately, to my surprise, and got a win on my third ever online race (and learned the most important lesson: "always stay inside in the hairpins!"🤣). From then on I was hooked, won several more races A in the process of climbing up into the B ranks (the Toyota at Suzuka east, anyone? I might have quite annoyed some people, because they saw this when I overtook them:

Sorry...😬😜)

If there hadn't been race A's with DR incentives, maybe I would have abandoned online races quickly because of the steep learning curve with GR3 and GR4.

Anyway, I'll be on GT7 cold turkey for the next two weeks, going on holiday with my family. I hope there's WiFi so I can check out what's going on here.

That Suzuka East with the Corolla/Trueno was legendary, and the subject of many a saved replay!

Bring back Daily A. There's a big gap in the America region left by the regulars.

Keep the no DR/SR Race A but allow PS5/4 crossplay as a 4th option. Maybe rotate it daily?
I think a no SR/DR crossplay daily rotation race would be the perfect Race A, quick and easy varied fun with a big playerbase.

I'd be happy if they did that even if they didn't add a 4th race. Just need some variety!

Only one race for me tonight and possibly my last race of the week as I'm getting placed in lobbies with a ton of A+/A drivers. Because of the stacked lobby, I start P11. Then I run wide in the opening section and smack the wall enough to damage my car. So, I get to cruise around in P15 and hope for the best.

Fortunately, I catch the rest of the back-markers and gain a few spots along the way. I caught up to a Suzuki Swift and with help of two others blew by them on the backstretch. I let the 2 drivers behind me get past at Schwedenkreuz because going 2 wide ain't going to work there. Another driver is trying to force a pass entering Wehrseifen and I let them by after we complete the turn. No point in fighting them. Going into the final backstretch run, a McLaren is in front of me and I use the draft to get by. They go for a move in the final corner by sticking their nose on the inside of the tiniest of gaps I left and we collide, and I don't lose control. I don't think it was intentional so whatever. I finish P12 after all that. I felt my race was decent enough, but being in a lobby of faster players kind of ruins the racing experience.

As for next week, while I do like Monza, I can't trust 15 other drivers barreling into Variante della Roggia on lap 1 with that amount of speed. I don't think I've ever raced the St. Croix B track before online so I might try that. Or, I might take a break from online racing and get work on all of the Circuit Experiences that I've been neglecting. Also, huge shout-out to Wikipedia for the Nordschleife track map with the corner names on it! I have no idea what they are without some sort of guide.

I feel an intentional DR reset coming, getting bored of the top split where about the only passes are when someone crashes or gets pushed off. Every time there is a position change the yellow flag comes out... And when I attempt a pass I get shoved into the grass.

I'm playing on PS5 this evening, guess I should have stuck to ps4 but it's the same people in the top split there every race as well. It doesn't help I keep starting behind the same V8 Vantage driver who is fast, but very aggressive in passing leaving me to dodge or get collected by the mess he leaves behind.

All I see is dented cars. My rear bumper gets plenty abuse as well while I'm being careful to keep my distance from the car in front of me and never a penalty for those that repeatedly hit me. Yeah I'm done with the top split. Back to DR B where drivers are a lot more courteous. This is not racing anymore.

Also I'm tired of all these GT-Rs, hopefully lower ranked lobbies have more variation.

I'll have to remind myself of the B layout but the circuit is not that bad, at least one of the layouts I quite liked and it has some nice lighting and a bridge(!), it's no worse than Alsace or Maggiore.

I could race Monza on loop for hours so that should be decent depending how the BoP plays out, do we know if there's a mand. stop?

Tire regs are usually subject to change from these predictions so we'll see what we end up with.

It's amazing how one person's pleasure is another persons poison. Alsace & Maggiore are two of my favs's, I've only used Monza to help me sleep at night 😴

All the Saint Croix's use the bridge but B has less corners and is more a power track. And i agree the lamp posts on the bridge are quite nice, although i've never seen them on.

I have to admit that I also drive the GT-R because there is too much time from the M4 to the GT-R, otherwise I would rather be on the road with the M4... my hope is and remains a clear nerve of ALL 4x4 Gr4 vehicles, clear performance down and/or weight up is urgently needed here.

Otherwise you're right, if you drive considerately and allow the front man to "live on" by not hitting him in the back, you will be mercilessly abused from behind. I also had to find out several times yesterday.
What's on my mind so often: "Without the stupid slipstream, they wouldn't be able to keep up at all"

It's a blessing and a curse.

Nevertheless... I just love the Nordschleife "Green Hell" sooo much, it's like a magnet that just won't let go of me.

Improved my Nordschleife quali time to 7:03.8 tonight :) I was happy to get under 7:10 at the beginning of the week so lots of improvement. Haven't raced here for years before this week and it's taken quite a few days to find good pace. Still left a bit on track with small mistakes, but pretty solid lap I'll stick with at this point.

I've got two of them...😄

How can you do that?
There is a careful and slow solution.... Enter a race and exit before the end, so you are last and lose DR points.

Or a quick and very ugly way.

Go into the races and ram every player as hard as you can. Your SR will drop very low very quickly and pull your DR down very quickly as well, all the way down to 5000 points. BUT this is really not a nice way!!!

Or you start a new driver on a new account.

I've got a second account already for experimentation purposes, but I was quickly up in the B ranks on it too.

I won't try the others methods, because I'm too nice for that...🤣

Now if only there were some Gr3 or Gr4 races that were longer and had some strategy . . . .

Kinda bored with the races this month. C’mon PD!
The problem is, the longer the races the more of my time gets wasted when the wrecking clowns ruin the experience. If I had hours to waste it wouldn’t matter, but I don’t. Long races with strategy are fine if there’s a decent penalty system (narrator: there never has been) or if you’re lucky enough to be in a lobby with only good people (narrator: about a one-in-three chance). I think this is why the shorter races on shorter tracks using road cars are best, necessary even, for people new to online. If just fifteen or twenty minutes is wasted it’s annoying, but obvs not as bad/frustrating as as when it’s 30 mins.

I can certainly say, in GTS I used the A races to learn and build up my DR/SR, it took a while, and I doubt I’d have done that if it’d been straight to racing cars in the B races.

And I still like racing road cars best of all anyway.

But yeah, they certainly should have longer races with strategy and tyre changes on offer too.

But yeah, they certainly should have longer races with strategy and tyre changes on offer too.
And, as you say, a penalty system that makes sense! I really believe a lot of people would behave more in the races of there were actually consequences for their behavior. Two or three seconds for running someone off the track is no good. I could run every single car off the track, costing each of them at least ten seconds recovery time and still come out ahead after the penalties are applied.

This, to me, was the most intimidating part of learning to race online. I was getting shoved all over the place, my races were ruined, and I had no recourse. I did one Race A early on, a one make race at Brands Hatch, and I was so badly punted ten seconds into the race that I had no way to catch up. Maybe a penalty was applied but I had no way of knowing as the rest of the cars were at least 20 seconds ahead of me. A three second penalty would have still put the culprit an easy 15 seconds ahead of me. I was less worried about saving my DR as I was wondering how this was in any way “fair,” and I didn’t do an A race again until recently.

But now I’m feeling the same about the B and C races too because they’re short sprints with few penalties and lots of bad behavior. If there’s any strategy involved and pit stops then I have at least some hope of competing, but the sprints are turning into one-make races as well which are incredibly boring. Either they become processions, or people use every dirty tactic they can to gain any sort of advantage over everyone else who is driving the same dang meta-car.

None of this is to take away from your point. A good fair race to learn in would be a great idea.

I got a decent time for this week’s Daily Race A, but I think a different, larger layout of Maggiore would’ve been better for the Porsche we’re allowed to use here. Probably gonna work on getting gold for the new online time trial instead, where you’re tasked with driving the 2020 Civic Type R around Trial Mountain. I think I’m only about six tenths away from gold, too!

Had a really good races last night in B on the secondary account in the Ford GT LM Spec II Race Car (there's got to be a better way do say that car). I actually think @sturk0167 was in at least one of them (where I was in P2 and you were in P3, do you recognize the car below?).

The last of which was the best one where this Supra and I were going at it the whole race. He started P1 and I started P2 (I accidentally bettered my quali time on this account before the race, ah well). I was able to get around him after the 90* left after the back straight as he spun the tires on exit. Stayed that way for a bit until he was really in my slip going down the front straight and we went side by side through T1, the esses, and T4 when in T5 he got the lead back. I was able to keep the pressure on and got a run on the back straight of the last lap. We went side-by-side through that next 90* left when me on the inside; I was able to retake the lead and we finished just like that. Great racing from him (Melvo).

One thing about this Ford is it's SO SMOOTH through that awkward right left combo right before the last 90* turn. The minor oversteery characteristic means it's very forgiving going through these turns. Just before that left, brake, downshift, turn in, and the car will literally point/rotate beautifully (way better than an FR car). There is very little (if any) steering input required anymore as she just slides right through; because of this, you can get on the throttle much earlier.

Two in a row wins on Nurb last night, one from pole, one from 2nd. Had to pinch myself. Last time this happened was in glory days of GT Sport when I was still very enthusiastic about this game and racing. Now on verge of getting into A category where I don't really belong and would slip out soon but still, would be cool.

This is the one area where I've had problems with the MR cars - I haven't got the GT but the R8, 650S and 458 all get really out of shape on when setting up for the left hander and oversteer into the inside wall... Needs very gentle handling to get this combination right.

Saint Croix! Can't wait for half the playerbase to leave. Dreadful track.

Looks like they ran out of creativity with race A, pointless it being no SR/DR now - just a wasted slot.

How dare you. St. C has fine tracks. Give it a go and fall in love.
Shameful I know but sometimes you have to ask yourself; what would Schumacher do?
Punted them as well. Perhaps not accidentally.
