I'm finding mid afternoon Race B to be a curious mix. Apparently, it's ripe for B-rated drivers who are really quick but slightly dubious on the race craft side of things.

There's really no need to be pushing through sector 1 at the beginning of the race, I end up losing touch completely with the 3,4 or 5 cars that are leading the pack in front of me.

I think from Lap 2 onwards it's pretty fair game but for the first one everyone just needs to try and keep pace with the fastest drivers and try and catch any scraps that get thrown our way.

I swear one of you really fast buggers could get the F-Type round in a crazy time, it's very competitive.
I tried it and learned that I'm obviously not a really fast bugger. 😆

Pretty good, honestly. Since I was starting towards the back I started on RH and was a little paranoid about putting the RMs on too early as I wasn't sure how the car was with the tire. So, I did a 5/5 but think a 4/6 would've worked as well. I am going to do more with it; was my favorite of the cars I tested out yesterday.
Great! I'm going to do a race with it then. Since Spa I've forgotten how to drive the RSR, anyway.

@Bullwinkle used the Jag in a race we were in together. Maybe he can shed some light?
I’m not very fast on this track, but I really like the Jag. It’s similar to the AMG in its grip and torque and is really stable all around. Give it a shot.

I keep trying other cars out of boredom. Z4 is fun and quick, pretty stable too, but should be better on tires than it actually is. Ferrari is always fun, but a bit frisky. The Mustang keeps stepping out on me. If I can keep my foot under control maybe 🤔 I’d like it better, but I forget every few laps and end out having to catch the rear end. I tried some quali laps on the Lambo and it’s a crazy machine. I can’t tell if it understeers or oversteers! Probably both, exactly when I want the opposite. But people are having good luck with it so it’s worth a shot. I actually tried to race with it and was P3 in the lobby, but it froze or whatever so the race never happened. There go more of my DR points!

I’m the end I think this is just a BRZ/RSR parade. I’m bleeding DR points with my experiments and will probably go back to those two for the weekend, but if I find anything else I’ll let you know.

I've been trying the Z4 for the Nations. It feels as good as the BRZ in the corners but faster on the straights (though that may be psychological, still traumatised by being passed right off the startline in the Subaru). Munching through the tyres though, I barely managed a no-stop 12 laps on the hards, front left was shredded.

Finally getting into my first Race C of the week. Took a 1000 mile, 2 day motorcycle trip to dip my toe in the waters of Lake Superior and motorcycle roadtripping.

I've spent a bit of time qualifying, looks like the 911 RSR is my choice for the week. Going to try 5 + 5 as a strategy for the compounds as a starting point.

ETA: Started in 2nd on both races, got punted off track on turn 1 in the first race, dropped to the back and recovered to finish in 9th.

Race 2 was much better, managed to get enough of a gap from the pack to avoid any contact throughout the race, the leader was just too fast for me to catch up, finishing about 7 seconds ahead and with about 10 seconds separating myself from P3+, I could've been a couple seconds closer however I was attempting some later braking on laps 9+10 which didn't pan out. I like Catalunya GP so far.

Think I'm giving up on Suzuka for the week, in the Gr 4's, especially the 155, just don't feel like I have the car under me at any point, not confident enough to get on the throttle early. It's a frustrating lap for me, more so that I like the circuit. Oh well, guess you can't click with them all.

Its 4 laps feels twice as long to run as Race C to me at the mo

Literally just finished a race C with @Bullwinkle. 1-2 finish because the leader had the 1 minute penalty.
I tried to say hello twice before the race and kept getting cut off by the switch screens! I couldn’t believe I ended up right behind you in that wreck-fest!

In other news for everyone else, the McLaren 650s is treating me very well. I set my fasted quali time in it, and have also been racing pretty well in it. It is good for 7 solid laps on RM too!

So I have this question: if I have to do only 3 laps on RH, should I use them first or last? I only gain one second a lap on the mediums. My thing goes two ways:
  • If I start on the hards, traffic is so jumbled early on that positions are gained and lost mostly by accidents and bad driving for the first 3 laps. Then I get to finish the procession for 7 and gain a second a lap, maybe overtaking one or two people in the process.
  • Or, I start on mediums with the idea that I can outmaneuver people in the first few laps and then run he’d for the next few. By the time I switch to hards, it’s just a procession for the last 3 laps.
Which strategy do you guys do?

Yeah, I was happy to avoid all the mishaps in there, just had no chance of catching 1st. Kind of a hollow victory when it's a penalty, but winning's winning.

Have the connection issues improved since the update? I watched a streamer (GroveStreetRacing) earlier this week and quite a few disconnects even during race costing DR etc. Haven't bothered to even try racing honestly, instead I have been running quali laps for the last couple days at Suzuka, which I love even in the Alfa. Down to a high 2'09.6 but optimal lap is a couple tenths quicker.

Exactly how I've been feeling going round Suzuka in the 155

this is how I felt for the first 2 days. Now having the practice and decent time I managed to win it for the first time and finish 2nd twice.

BA driver :)

I haven’t had any issues until this recent update. I finished a race yesterday, after several good races, and finally had a decent showing. I clicked through all the post-race screens and then it went black before returning to the lobby. I pushed the x button and heard a “click” but no response after. The game appeared to have frozen but I’m not really sure. I had to reboot and have no idea if I lost DR points or not. This kind of stuff never happened before, so it may have been random bad luck.

The contact penalty system actually working correctly in Race A (and a funny fail).

Penalty system on race a is just mad.

As for Race B & C has the penalty system been updated? I picked up a 3 seconds penalty on Race C yesterday after a car went off the track (in the gravel) on the final corner and as they were rejoining (erratically) I was as far right possible and they hit me and I got a 3 second penalty. I’ve not seen had that penalty since they removed the penalty system a few months ago.

I had a good series of races with @r_epp again this morning. Ran the McLaren mostly just to be different, but it’s clear the 911 is the best car available. I ran in the BRZ again for the first time since Monday and I can’t make it competitive at all anymore, probably because sim in faster lobbies now. It was good for 8 laps on mediums (I meant to do 7 but spaced out and blew past the pit entrance), but that didn’t really give me any kind of advantage. The mediums run about a second faster for me, so I gain a second with the extra lap, but I lose two seconds every lap because the car is so dang slow!

I’ll probably whip up a livery for my 911 and just run that the rest of the weekend.

Anyone know next week’s races yet?

I don't know how to link to Twitter, but all credit goes to @Nenkai

Daily Races for next week (05/09/2022):
A - Lago Maggiore - East End / Racing Kart 125 BoP (12 Laps, 1x Tyre/Fuel, SS, Grid Start, 12 cars)
B - Dragon Trail - Seaside Reverse / Gr.3 (4 Laps, 1x Tyre/Fuel, RH)
C - Sardegna Road - A Reverse / Gr.4 (10 Laps, 2x Fuel/5x Tire, RH)

Can't say I am particularly excited about any of these.

Seriously. Aren’t there any other tracks we haven’t seen in the last two weeks?!
Not great, not awful - just an alright week. Nice to have Karts back. Not nice to have racing hards back!
Agreed about the RH. What’s the point of having tire wear in a race where you won’t have to change tires?! These no-strategy one-make processions are boring the heck out of me! It makes no sense to me! The only way to counteract a really bad BoP system is to have multi-stop races that would allow for some real strategy and unique car choices.

This is how my races went at Suzuka tonight...

Fire Elmo GIF

Absolutely chaotic racing in the bad way. Yikes. I did manage to get my time down to a 2:11.9XX so that was a big plus on the evening.

Race 1 sees me in P7 to start which is where I thought I would be starting. Race starts out fine. Some bumping, but nothing too bad. I'm all over place position wise with myself and others going off track, incidental contact, and other racing shenanigans. I find myself in P8 on the final lap, but I swing out too wide for my entry into the hairpin turn and a Ferrari does the same. I have a decent lead going in to the Casio Triangle and the Ferrari dive-bombs me so terribly I am in disbelief. I fall to P14 in the end.

Race 2 sees me P4 this time and I make a huge mistake thinking I had room to sneak back behind a GT-R I didn't have the speed to get by going into R130 with another car in the slip. Sorry guy I hit. But, they actually completed a PIT maneuver to me when I cut across their nose so I got the worst of it. I finish P12. Oops, my bad. The rest of the field was incredibly dirty from my vantage point. Shoving each other off track and the like.

Race 3 I'm P6 on the grid. The race is nice and calm and I finish P4 after I get a track limit penalty. I wouldn't have caught P3 anyway so nothing lost in the end.

So far, I'm really liking the Alfa. It's quick in the corners and easy to drive. I usually don't drive in the META car, but I don't think you'd have a chance otherwise. Hopefully I can get into some clean rooms like my last race tonight and have some fun tomorrow.

I'm having a great time (and being competitive with the alfas) in the WRX. Still 4WD which is super helpful for drive out of corners, but you've got to make sure you're not washing wide on throttle and you've really got to be on the brakes correctly, then throttle to rotate through the corners.

I'm not putting in the 2:10:xx times I've seen alfas capable of doing, but a mid 2:11:xx is fine with me
