So I ran Race B this afternoon/evening and it was inexplicably a totally different experience. So clean compared to yesterday. Maybe an extra day of practice helped, but I had the same drivers as last night and they more or less behaved today.
I ran one race in the BRZ as the only B driver in an all A lobby. I just ran it honestly, got ten laps on RM and finished around 10 or something, but it was clearly not going to work out so I switched back to the Porsche. I was in another mixed A & B lobby and ended out finishing last. Too many mistakes on my part, and I was sure I was just not meant to run this circuit.
Then I got put in all-or-mostly B lobbies the rest of the night. I started around P8 and finished P5.
Then a miracle happened. I ran a couple of practice laps between races and dropped my quali time by a second. I’m now at 1:30.something. That put me at P4 in the next race and I was able to wait out the crazy first lap and settle in for a P3. Next race same start and finished P2. Then I started pole in my last race and finished P1!!!!!
The quali time really makes a difference. I have to keep reminding myself of this. It really is a benefit to start up front and avoid the shenanigans.
What I learned from all this: I needed to have a terrible day like yesterday to jerk me back into paying careful attention to what I was doing, and focusing throughout the race on what other people were doing. I learned by watching and when it came time to run a quali lap I had a bunch of muscle memory stored up to drop my time.
Thanks for letting me rant in despair. I’m back into the A bracket again, so I quit while I was still on a good mood! I’ll get hammered again tomorrow, but at least I’m able to enjoy it now…
