Makes you think are PD testing Gr4s for a BOP update?
Like you say 3 races in a row for fuel save. I don’t mind a fuel save but add another element to the race. I think mandatory hard with the options to use soft would make this race better.
Race Hard is mandatory. If they did mandatory softs it would require a pit stop. But they really need to up the fuel factor so that we need to choose between one or two stops, not no stops. That would actually require strategy. Lord, if they’d just survey this forum we’d give them a year’s worth of good races….
One of the most fun Dailys they ever did, IMO, was the Gr3 at the Glen, 10 laps, RM tires and enough wear you had to pit for new tires. It was an RM + RM Most would pit at the half way point but you could make it six laps if you tried, which made an undercut/overcut possible. I won two races pulling off an undercut; that was super exciting.

That Watkins Glen Gr.3 race was spectacular! It was the first win I ever had because it was the first track that I ever loved in this game. When I first saw it I was hoping Race C was a repeat of that, but oh well. I may try a flat out one stop just for the heck of it.

Couldn't overtake as they'd try to shove you into the barriers but still managed P3 with their dirty driving against each other and less than 2 seconds back from winner, who was king of shoving and ramming and zero pens for anyone!!
I wish PD would get over their wall-riding paranoia. That’s an infinitesimally small problem compared to the contact to pass issues, yet they keep upping the ante on enforcing wall penalties! Other than extended wall riding, any wall contact resolves itself with damage and lost time. They need to penalize dirty driving. If they can calculate which bumper or tire is damaged in contact, surely they could calculate who initiates the contact as well. It’s not rocket surgery! Front bumper damage with no brakes = punting; rear bumper damage in a brake zone = victim. Getting punted into a wall and getting damage, lost time, and a penalty while the divebomber suffers nothing is a really bad look for a “penalty” system.

Has it been a shove-fest for anyone else in Race B this week? Hopped into my 2nd account and somehow started P2.

Small mistake Turn 1 and they caught up with me and by Turn 3 was 2 places down from ramming and hit-to-pass driving...

I tried only one race, also on my second account (low DR B). Started P4, finished P3. The race was remarkably clean. Maybe an outlier.

I'm not so sure about that. Could be an invitation for brake checking.

At times, definitely. Not on every race, but on a lot of them.

Yeah, that's the worst spot. Even if you're not making a mistake, someone may try to take the inside on T1. I've started to watch for people doing that, and I take the inside if they try it. Of course, the people behind can cause problems, but at least it'll be you squeezing someone off the track, not the other way around. Not that I condone that...

I haven't had many people trying to shove me into the barriers (I'm assuming you're talking T2). I mean, one person did it deliberately, but he was ticked off at me because I passed him on T1.

It was mostly Turn 2 and 5, right before the double right hander before the start/ finish straight.

The video I uploaded is clipped and only show Laps 1, 2 and 7 - 9 as I spent the other laps catching up. You can see they just barge in every opportunity... Maybe it was just a one-off and I happened to find 3 dirty drivers all around me

I'm finished racing for the decades challenge now with over 20 cars and some multiple attempts. Since I won't be good at any of the races next week I'm going to put more time to the decades challenge video and put it out next week with some special bonuses. The video will be oldest to newest but I tried to do a race in the 2017 Ford GT just now and got rammed into the wall through no fault of my own giving me damage and a penalty. So many people know how to exploit the race now it's not worth trying anymore new cars but I can say it has been a rollercoaster of positives and negatives and all will be shown for better and worse.

I’m going to go one further and say that using anything other than cockpit cam is cheating. There, I said it. I can’t take it back now.
But I mean I use auto gears so what would I know?

What is it about the visibility in cockpit cam that people struggle with? Is it just the other cars around you when in traffic?
For me, it's more about having a better view of the track. It takes me longer to get up to speed with cockpit view so if I'm particularly rusty, I use hood to learn, then switch. As far as racing with other cars I literally see no difference. I'm just as good at noticing other cars with cockpit as hood. That's what the radar is for anyways.

I do agree it's cheating, if we're going with the fact that GT is more of a simulation. This is why iracing has everyone locked to cockpit view and frankly that's how it should be but I think GT7 and iracing could have more options for the position of the camera and FOV the way Assetto Corsa does.

It’s not that straightforward though. In a real car, you have a much wider field of view from the cockpit than is possible in a single screen sim. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that cockpit view in GT7 provides significantly less visibility than real life. It’s nice, and it’s immersive, but it’s not realistic.

I use roof cam (it’s definitively roof cam btw, not bonnet cam) because I find it gives me a truer “feel” of the natural field of view. It’s not an accurate representation, for sure, but it feels more natural in terms of visibility and surrounds than cockpit cam.
I completely disagree because the disparity in visibility between a closed cockpit and an open cockpit, is a massive amount larger than the disparity between your FOV in real life and your FOV in the game and cockpit view is the only way to simulate that disparity.

Use whatever you want, but claiming anything but cockpit view is realistic is a complete lie. The visibility of different cars matters.

VR would pretty much solve the issues with cockpit view, and settings like what Assetto Corsa has can mitigate them as well. GT7 could do better in both regards frankly.

I really like that GT allows people to get really immersed using cockpit and manual gears and also allowing people to play it as a game with a controller and chase cam and automatic shifting.

What I don't like is people telling others what's a "legit" way to play what is ultimately a video game.

rant over, do what you want, it's a video game :D

Did some Race C today with very little prep, and wow the carnage! Went from 10th to 3rd on the first lap in one of the races because two groups of drivers decided to play bumper cars (four wide into the esses at the end of the Kemmel straight!).

Yup, morning experience was great was even thanked for my clean racing in the chat, always appreciated.

Afternoon was.. wow, chaos unleashed

I will miss Spa though it's actually been more time in GT this week than for a good while before. Hopefully Watkins next week is equally as enjoyable as again A and B have zero interest to me.

Well, the assumption that sunday morning might be a good time for clean racing was... wrong.

I went into my first meaningful daily race since I got promoted back into DR A two weeks ago. It was a ****show once again.

Race B, I had done a lot of qualifying laps, 52:4 which put me at around P550 on the global rankings. This should be good for a decent grid position in the race in a low DR A lobby, right?

Nope. I'm P9 (!) on the grid. Drivers from DR A+/S to B/A. Literally everybody is in an Alfa, of course. And I'm right in the middle of the bunch. Oh dear.

As expected, I get immediately bombed in the first corner, fly across the red carpet almost into the barrier and find myself in last place with severe damage to my car. After regrouping I get three positions back in laps 3 and 4 by people serving penalties (no contact penalties, of course), but for the rest of the race P10 is lightyears ahead, and I have P12 glued to my exhaust. Lap 8 he overtakes me, not clean, bit of contact, but almost okay, as I had gone very defensive for two laps. But as I had lost quite some time fighting him, the backmarkers have caught up, and P13 decides that it's fine to divebomb me onto the grass in T2 in the final lap. And so I finish last. Thanks, I'm done for this week after one single race. Two or three more of those and I'll be back to DR B again, which might suit me better anyway. It bugs me even more that this race must have hurt my SR rating, too.

BTW, I checked the replay. There wasn't a single contact penalty in the whole race. If PD doesn't finally (re-)install a decent penalty system, I'll be out of daily races soon. And considering the lack of single player content, that means out of the game in general.

I wonder how many players have already been pushed away from the game, at least from online racing, by that cr@p.

So next week Daily C I think will have some great racing (it depends when the game update is release as this could be pulled for the new track (possibly))

Just done a few rough test laps just to see how things fair.
Cars tested, 155, WRX, Megane Trophy & BMW M4

Fuel - you get about 7.5 half laps of starting fuel.

Lap times on hard tyres doing short shift
155 - low 1.58.
WRX - high 1.57
M4 - mid 1.58
Megane - mid 1.58

Medium tyres no fuel saving
WRX - high 1.56

Pit time from entry to exit 25-30 seconds

From what I can gather short shifting I don’t think will give you enough fuel so you will have to race in different mix modes to save the extra 2/3 laps. Personally I think the fastest strat will be flat out, pit and swap tyres. Will do a test race tomorrow for this and find out
I was in a test lobby yesterday - using next weeks settings
The WRX can manage just with short shifting but I had to swap to fuel map 3 on the slower parts of the track on the last 2 laps -
I was running high 55's / low 56's during the race no stopping on Hards
Very similar to Catalunya the other week although I'd say the fuel saving is needed slightly more.....

Tried Time Trail (online one) using manual gears. Nope, it isn't going to work for me, way slower!
Going from automatic to manual is a learning process and takes some time befo6you are back up to speed
But it's worth it anyway. In the end you will likely be faster and you can short shift for speed in some cars (like the Supra) and in other cars for fuel saving.

I didn’t claim roof view was realistic. I said cockpit view isn’t.

My whole point was that since none of them are close to real-life I use the one that feels better.

You’re the one saying cockpit view is both realistic and not realistic in the same post.

Just let people use the one they feel comfortable with without shaming their choice.

Yeah I did a proper race lobby with friends too yesterday and it appears short shifting with a little bit of fuel mix should be good enough to get you round.
Also fuel saving is the OP. You lose too much time in the pit lane. I was doing 1.55 for 7 laps in P2 yet the others behind doing 1.57 on the fuel save strat were able to jump me as I pitted. Went from P2 to P8.

Did a couple Cs last night in the Genesis. I don't know why I picked that stupid car because it is, indeed, stupid. Tries to kill you on virtually every turn exit and isn't particularly fast down the straights. The amount of time lost to the Supra and SSS are insane.

Also did some in the NSX. The Acura (as a Statesman, it will always be "Acura" to me) sticks to the track really well. It's not fast either - compared to the Supra or SSS anyway - but it handles great. Thing is, if you even think about touching a curb she's gone. Was having a pretty good race until like lap three when I touched the inside curb going through Eu Rouge and it was insta-death. Shame, really, as it was otherwise pretty good.

ETA - Same experience with the Ford GT 18. Also a shame as the car is otherwise amazing.

That’s why the braking zone is an important part of this. It’s not always perfect in the game, but it at least defines workable parameters for determining divebombing. Anything outside of the zone would be a brake check. Anything inside would be a punt. It’s not perfect, but a heck of a lot better than what we’ve got now. I think incidental contact should be left alone, but anything resulting in damage should also result in a penalty.

And this is why I think the way I do about penalties. The problem is that PD seems to be more worried about the optics of wall riders rather than the principle of clean racing. They’d rather root out a few cheaters in the name of “clean racing” than root out the dirty racers in the name of “clean” racing! It’s absurd.

I don’t care about a few cheaters. Simply change a few things to prevent the outright cheating. For example, length of wall contact deserves a reset to a point way back in the race. This happened to me in Spa when I went too wide on the back straight. My race was over when I got reset and I made sure never to do not again. Problem solved. They’ve got the tools to do this stuff, they just choose not to. They are making ridiculous solutions for simple problems and it’s ruining things for everyone equally.

We were better off when everyone got penalized for every little infraction, but not wall contact, because at least then it dissuaded stupid scrums at T1 of every race. Yes, there were too many penalties being doled out but if everyone is serving them then it’s a wash at the end. The people who do best are the ones who avoid contact and don’t get penalized. It’s at least a start, rather than the crazy Wild West show we’ve got now.

I don’t understand why the pits take so dang long! It ruins the race because it ruins strategy. I’m about to watch a Grand Prix in a few minutes where they lit in lass than half the time we take in these races. One more thing to be aggravated about. These Race C strategies are pretty lame when it’s the same thing every time.

Likely the majority, especially among the casual players. It's us who are the mad ones, the 'hardcore', who keep hanging on hoping for change.
Yes, considering how that sunday morning lobby was put together, there were mostly 'hardcore' drivers, literally.😬

Just to complete my self-indulgent rant: I was quite happy with my progress in the last 6 months after jumping into online racing for the first time ever, developing from a casual gamer to someone who can at least compete with some experienced online racers - that's where the fun really started. Having good races, sometimes even good results.

But I'm old enough to have learned that people tend to behave irresponsibly when there is no accountability. No penalties? Well then I'll push you off track. The others do it, too.

It's just a little video game, but it reflects general behaviour. I have to deal with enough of that in real life, so I'm not going to take much more of that in a game in my leisure time.

Rant over. Have a great sunday, everybody.🍻

Just, WHAT THE **** PD?! You start me in the middle of the stupid chicane at Spa and when the race starts I don't get to control my own car? It just auto-drives into the pit wall, gives me a penalty, all the cars to by, and THEN I get to control my car. Thanks a BUNCH for that!!!!! I'm done. This is such garbage that I'm losing my mind!

These barrier penalties are the most un-fun mechanic about online. Talk about a rubbing-salt-in-the-wound penalty.

Hey everyone, I got a few races in this week at Spa and wanted to share my fastest race lap of a 2:15.0 in the Skyline Super Silhouette.

I gotta say, I didn’t get along very well with this combo but I did get some good results after taking entirely too long to come to grips with the car and track.

My qualy time was 2:13.8 and I feel like that’s slower than I normally am relative to my friends and the global leaderboard. It’s just so hard to put together a great lap without minor mistakes here and there.

At first I had no idea where people were gaining the time, but one of the reasons I save my replays and make videos is so I can review them later. After watching, I can see my mistakes and how some guys were able to hit high 13’s in the race. I threw away a few high 14’s myself and that would’ve been an almost perfect lap by my standards…so much respect to the people lapping more than a whole second quicker than this! I take comfort in knowing that’s a pretty small number of players.

Cheers! See you next week at The Glen!

Haha unlucky. The rolling starts are a joke on some courses and I think Spa is one of the worst ones.
I was playing ACC the other day and the rolling starts are so much better, but then I realised they are only better because everyone respects the rules and doesn’t go ploughing into T1 at 1000mphs. Yes you get the odd few on that game who do cause some crashes but it’s so much more respectful. GT7 it would be carnage, and I don’t think many would even get to T1.

In going back and forth between the 155 and the WRX at Red Bull there sure is a huge difference in steering linearity between the two cars. As big as I have notice between any cars in the same group for a while. The WRX takes about 3 times more steering wheel input (G29) to get the same turn as the 155...

thats exactly what happened for me. its super deflating to get bashed in turns 1 and 5 on a lap and know i've got to finish the race (or else i'll have to drive against lower SR drivers). the other reason i stepped away was the limited player base... this time last year i got totally hooked to GTS, and (i know it was crossplay) i could fire it up at any hour and have full races. aside from 'peak hours' in GT7, if i have a full race its with a wide DR/SR spread... sometimes theres a driver specifically in there to ruin races, and the only option is to log off and hope they're not back on when you're racing.

anyways i've picked up a PS3 and GT6 recently (the updates took 6 hours lmao) so i'm gonna use my G29 for that. i apparently had preordered the 15th anniversary bonus way back when on my PSN account (25 cars! a special suit!) but never played the game. i realize it took awhile to get to its finished state but it already seems like Single Player is going to be a lot more enjoyable than The Cafe - as much as i'd love to just fire up and drive in GT7, they are forever changing tuning dynamics... so its not even as simple as loading up a favorite car and hitting a track.

Correct me if I’m missing something, but it isn’t possible to cripple one’s Enzo enough for daily A (345 BHP) with the non-removable engine tuning parts (bore up, engine balance tuning, polish ports, high lift camshaft, racing crank shaft, high compression pistons), right?

Exactly. My race had players with SR S, SR A, and even two SR B players. Shouldn't happen if enough players were interested in actually playing sports mode.

At least this time I could resist the urge to jump right back into the next race to try to make up for the bad one, so I didn't further hurt my SR.

Looking forward to some Red Bull Ring tomorrow. Probably in the Mustang again as I can make it work and it hasn't let be down so far. I also have no problems using the Porsche I'm guessing if it's the META again. I just like the Red Bull Ring so I don't care what I drive.

It sure beats digging out of the massive snowstorm that hit Western New York the past few days. After 3 days of shoveling snow I'm spent. My car is under that first huge mound closest to where I took the picture on Friday Night. And the progress after a few hours of removing snow on Saturday. Everything is as back to normal as it's going to get until it melts. 0/10, do not recommend being in the middle of a huge record breaking snowstorm. Way off topic, but that's what I've been dealing with all weekend.

If that were a Subaru you wouldn't need to shovel any more
