Really disappointed with this weeks races compared to last. I'm wishing I had found more time to race at Bathurst. as I said before gr3 is a bit above my skill level and I never do race C, so I'm not used to tire wear at all. put some clips together of some of my better moments, it's mostly just 1-2 minute clips of me trying not mess up. lol

first day of racing I was not confident enough to push 2 wide up the hill

first race on day 2 started with an interesting one. I tapped the wall and grabbed a 1.5 penalty. after serving I was holding the inside and got completely smoked at the chase. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but got to wondering if I should have been on the outside.

day three was good. I had a bunch of good racing with the red mustang, but started this set with what was actually my final clip of the week. I allowed myself to be a bit more aggressive than I usually would

if anyone actually watches the vids, comments on my driving are welcomed. just don't be to harsh lol

i adopted a 'DR? dont care' attitude towards the game franchise years ago..
thats when the driving enjoyment factor went way up. so much more fun to just enjoy it for what it is & not treat the DR/SR so preciously ;)
That's how I normally race but about 2 months ago I decided to go for DR A. So while I do enjoy racing for fun, I am right now very much enjoying the higher level of racing that I have gained by challenging myself this way. I understand how the ranking works and I think I understand the most efficient way of climbing and this week just won't be worth it. There is always Race A, so it's nice we have that option. Of course I could use this week to finish up Gold on S Liscense.

my takeaway from what Giz said was basically "race for fun, if you're fast DR will come"
I've adopted the same thinking. I don't stress about whether or not I lose or gain DR, just try to drive fast and clean and generally I do better than average so my DR goes up a bit.

Finally getting a chance to hop into my favorite class to drive with the Gr.2 cars. I purchased the GT-R as I have the most experience with it. It took a while, but I got a decent rhythm going and clocked my current best time of 1:36.9XX. Turn 1 has been a huge pain to get right. I need to turn in earlier than I think I need to. I also need to clean my lines up as I haven't raced at Autopolis in quite a while. Hopefuly I can get some clean races tomorrow.

Definitely one of those "Forget DR" weeks this week. Alsace Reverse in Gr 3 is an absolute nightmare. mixed DR matching in Oceania region doesn't help when you've got A+ lumped in with B/C/D in a single race. think I'll be giving Daily B a miss.

I had far too much fun at Bathurst last week, here are my highlights:

This weeks dailies aren't doing much for me, I tried a couple of race C's this morning but hated everything about it, the input smoothing on controller dulls the cars so much they're nowhere near as enjoyable to drive as on the old game, the tyres wear so much you can't really push and even if you could the dirty air means you can't get close enough to make a move on anybody at a similar level.

Nobody:

Max: I wonder if the RSR would be more stable if it went down the mountain backwards?

Race B: Pos 8 to Pos 4 in the first few corners, but I forgot about braking for a particular corner, went too wide and caught a 1.5 sec penalty. Raced my way back to Pos 8 in the next three laps, and then I'm punted into the barrier in the last round, gaining a whopping +3 second penalty. As I circle back to the racing track, the game suddenly resets me with my steering wheel fully turned, and I immediately run into the barrier again for another 1.5 seconds. Finished 12th in the end. Aaaah well. Here's to making fewer mistakes in the next race.

Don't... stress...?! Is that even possible? LOL.

Wow! That's the kind of thing that makes me want to say "It couldn't get much worse...", except then I'd hear PD and/or the Racing Gods say "Wanna bet? [insert evil laugh here]"

Finally had the time to make my way into DR A and holly cow is it sweaty and surprisingly, dirty! Decided to only do race B this week and for some reason, I am getting rammed and punted left and right which didn't really happen in DR B. Also, is the SR rating in A lobbies more strict? Mine tanked from perfect S down to B currently and I am driving exactly the same as I did in B lobbies. Is it because the racing is that much closer? Is it the track? Or is it that the system is really more strict in A lobbies? Kinda struggling here, but at least as a highlight I had Wind in my lobby yesterday so that made me feel good about myself :)

I think all those who usually only run AWD Gr.4 have had to switch to race B this week - that and the choice of circuit is a recipe for disaster.

I don't think I myself struggle with the car/track combo that much, I quite enjoy it actually. Coming back to the incidents, that's what those usually were in B - racing incidents. Meanwhile, I've witnessed more divebombs and straight-up assassinations in a day in A than I've seen all previous week in B.

Yeah, I think that’s a symptom of people starting to take themselves too seriously and driving like their lives depended on it. I go through that once in a while myself.

The SR thing is a mystery though. I almost never do anything outright dirty, but in one single incident last week in dropped to SR A, only to regain S a couple races later.

Race B has some opportunities for good racing this week, even some clean race bonuses. But the wall penalties are harsh. And with all the aggressive contact going unpenalized, I inexplicably got hit with a 2 second penalty for bumping P1 from behind without affecting his racing line at all. it was just a braking zone miscalculation, not a divebomb. It’s weird how they don’t penalize the intentional contact but crack down on the incidental stuff like that. Maybe it IS because I’m an A driver. You may be on to something there….

Mais oui. I understand your point. Race A this week for example is a slaughterhouse, so it's better without DR/SR. I had some fun there today, including some... err... things that are not part of my usual driving style. I didn't start any of it, but some guys just got what they deserved...😇

That's why I said: sometimes. I'd like PD to - sometimes - give us a daily race B or C with road cars, including DR/SR implications. Gr4 or Gr3 could then for a change move to race A for a wild one. I would appreciate that because it would even out the challenge of moving up in DR for players like me who are better in road cars than in some race car categories. I personally am mediocre in Gr4 and totally suck in Gr3, so my ceiling will be high DR/B to low DR A like forever.

Of course that's not the end of the world, I'll have fun anyway. But road cars have always been such a focal point in GT (there are, how many, about 350 different road cars in GT7?), so I find it a bit disappointing that racing them is more or less meaningless in Sports mode.

That's the most impressive, fearless and entertaining driving I've ever seen in GT7. I mean, everybody knows the save at the Chase by now, but the part between 1:50 and 2:18 clearly belongs into the Gran Turismo Hall of Fame. 😆

That would be cool. Go to a track/car combination PD would know to be chaotic and make that Race A for the week. Maybe GR.1 at the Nord, or GR.3 at Broadbean, or just weird stuff.
Definitely! Gr.3 has turned up a couple of times as daily A and I thought those were really great. While the absolute tryhards will always be around and use meta, even when DR/SR is off many other drivers use all kinds of cars and it's great fun, just wish we could be more than 12, it's such a weird grid limitation.

Throw in some Gr.2 and 1 there too, would be cool.

If you're not at least trying Qualifying at Alsace in Daily Race B this week, you're missing out on a really fun track. Once you get the hang of it, and find a var you like, it's a total blast. There's so many opportunities for making great turns and really sticking the landing (so to speak), it really can be like driving on rails. The Gr.3 cars on RMs are perfect for this track in this direction.

Here's a shot of me driving my favorite car (so far) on this track, the V12 Vantage. It's naturally aspirated, so there's no turbo lag, and it has plenty of torque to make it up the steep part at the start. I sure wish I had the photographic eye some people on this forum have, so I could really capture the feel of some of these corners.

EDIT: You have to be REALLY careful the first couple of laps of the actual race. Start braking earlier, take corners slower, etc. Cold tires and full gas tanks (more weight) make things much more dicey. Still fun, though.
And with all the aggressive contact going unpenalized
I'll preface this comment with the fact that I haven't done that many races on this track yet, so I reserve the right to change my opinion in the future. But so far, I feel like this is the first race in a while where people are actually getting penalized for their actions. Not always, of course. And like you said, sometimes you get a penalty that you probably didn't deserve. But there have been a handful of incidents where my blood boiled at someone and I was fighting the urge to retaliate, only to see them get a penalty for what they did, which made it much easier to resist the urge.

Yes, the wall penalties are harsh - I can't argue with that. But hey, we already knew Barry-R was a jerk, so that shouldn't really be a surprise. With that said, at least there aren't curbs where just looking too closely at them causes a penalty or damage!

I'm not sure if it's cheating, but it's dirty driving.
Totally agree. With that said, if it makes the jerk behind you have to slam on his brakes and have to try and save his now very unstable car, it can be quite funny. At least that's what someone told me - I would never do something like that myself...

As e3xpected the Alpine seems like a ton of fn to drive but I just cannot do it with my inputs and driving style. I am floundering about in qualy a SOLID second down on guys i normally race with, which is a ton at such a short track. I cannot control it under brakes, the rear swings around relentlessly, why we cannot control BB is beyond me, it is so annoying.

I see that some players have multi accounts. Is there a downside to that for the game in general. Won’t there be lots of really good players racing against C or low B players and taking spots from players who are actually driving at those levels?

There is and it’s just a tad irritating to those of us who inhabit the lower levels of the skill pyramid.

Its not so much the reduced ability to gain DR as the increased propensity to lose it as you will likely finish in a more lowly position.

First off, here's a totally fair 4 SECOND penalty [sarcasm] (AND engine damage):

Now for a question. Is this a reasonable pass attempt (in the video below)? I'm set up to take the corner like everyone does, although I have to slow a little for the guy in front. My line is pretty obvious. Can someone just stick their nose in there and claim they had a right to the inside? I mean, where else could I possibly go? I can't suddenly take the corner more slowly so I can make the outside and he can take the inside - I'm already committed. Am I wrong?

Thank you! Road cars have always been my bread and butter in this game, something about the way they need to be flung around just clicks with me.

Same here. I just wished they would allow gaining some DR with them, at least from time to time. I got hooked on online racing by driving two handful of races with the Renault Clio in Tsukuba, climbing up quickly in DR rankings and finding it great fun, especially having the feeling that there is some reward for the progress.

I'm in the same boat, although I'm really getting into racing cars, Group 3 and above that is, there's something oddly satisfying about learning the performance and habits of a vehicle that lies outside of a specific categorisation.

One thing that bugs me about Race A since they introduced 'un-ranked' (which in fine with, by the way), ever since the bonus payout period... Why can't they make Race A a permanently higher paying event? If you aren't playing competitively, to rank yourself up and challenge yourself against better drivers, at least give us a real incentive to go for the 'oddball race'.

Thoroughly enjoyable, nonetheless.

I think that's a reasonable pass attempt. You can't just stick to the racing line and say you were on the line and therefore no one can go up the inside. He seems to be in control of the car and slowed down enough to take a narrow line around the corner that would have left you room on the outside. By going deeper in the corner before turning in you should have enough extra distance to stay on the breaks and slow down enough to take the outside line.

If you knew he was coming up the inside and still turned in I would consider that a dirty move. If you just weren't aware I wouldn't consider you dirty, but still probably somewhat at fault through negligence, but without studying the footage too closely it could probably just be considered a racing incident too. If that barrier didn't happen to be there it probably would have been fine and you both would have made it through relatively unscathed.

At the end of the day you can't control other people's actions, and especially in a game if there's a gap people are usually going to go for it, so it's up to you to take a defensive line into the corner when you know someone is right up your bumper.
