Yeah, that's what I'm still struggling to learn I think. Like when the best time to downshift is, things like that. Do I hammer the downshift button or do I do it more gradually that kind of stuff.
That's always a question, for sure, at least to me. When I come up to the first corner, I slam on the brakes and downshift as fast as I can, then coast around the apex in 1st (or 2nd). But other times, downshifting all the way down quickly seems to cause issues. So it's trial and error for me.
I tried the Lexus with TCR 1 and couldn't get lower than a 1:55 so I'm kinda thinking you're a savant or something :D
It's too bad you can't have someone who knows what they're doing watch over your shoulder. There've been lots of times I wished I could have that. The next best thing, though, is you could record a part of your run, or even just a few corners, post it here, and ask people here what you're doing wrong. I'm sure you'd get excellent feedback from the people on this forum. Just a thought. Hmmm. I might even give that a try with some of the corners I'm having trouble with.

Thanks! You know, we (all of us, including me) complain about so many things about this game. But the number of options, cars, etc, that are available to match our driving styles and/or abilities is actually kind of amazing. I know a lot of people here have played racing sims for a long time, but not me. This is my first foray into sim racing, and it's mind-blowing. Even with all the things left to complain about.

Come on, don't keep us in suspense - who won? Was it competitive, or did one of you pull a "Grumpy"?
Actually, I pulled a Kowalski. Yeah, as far as I remember, I embarrassed myself 😆.

BTW, I again followed your idea and tried the Lexus which you used. Well, actually I wanted to take it, but confused it with the '16 prototype:

Which turned out to be quite good. Feels a bit clunky, but very stable, especially through the long banked left hander. I improved on my previous best with the Aston and managed a 1:51:4 in the end.

To me it seems that PD is now close to having figured out the BOP in Gr3. Many different cars with different driving characteristics are fairly competitive now on different tracks. Just nerf the GT-R a bit, please... And then put the same amount of work in Gr4, or, you know: 🐶🔫

I'm a 'Green Flag haver', I've been playing the game for a few months and I still make a lot of mistakes, sometimes these mistakes screw people's race but I make sure to apologize or at least make clear it wasn't intentional, but in all I can confidently say I am not a dirty driver. I, like everyone here, strongly believe dirty driving and bad behavior should be penalized. Always.
I have no idea what the dirty driving/nationality ratio is. I'm in the american region, I know that all the lobbies I'm in are populated by around 90% of non 'Green Flag havers' . I'll get punted either way.
If all the 'Green Flag havers' you've encountered were dirty drivers, that sucks and I'm sorry for it. I'll make sure to do my part and be a good example, but personally this type of profiling is what pushes me way from the internet.
I mostly race at night in the american lobbies so very often I'm the only 'Green Flag haver'. I know for a fact that I'm not the dirty driver, maybe you can teach how to identify who can and who can't race clean?
I think that everybody thinks a certain nationality is dirtier than the others. For a time on GTS it was a certain country to the south of me beginning with 'S' that seemed dirty. Nowadays it can be pretty much from anywhere and anyone.
Kudos to you for your attitude, and hopefully you'll get the rewards for it.

I agree 100%

I've said before that the majority of dirty drivers I encounter are North Americans. That's going back to the start of GT Sport.
Previously, when they segregated the North and South American drivers in the daily races, it sucked. The races were under-populated, and we missed a lot of our South American friends.

Keep racing, buddy. I'll be glad to compete with you. 👍
I agree too. When I race in America and are racing against Brazilians I know I can count on hard but fair racing.
That's a far way from dirty.

On another topic: I just took a second of my Q time for B. In the Hyundai....

Have you ever been doing a Qualifying with your ghost turned on, look up and see it catching up in the mirror, and think "GET OFF MY [butt]!!!"? Or is it just me. :boggled:

So are you saying the '16 is what you liked? Better than the '17?

Alsace is an utterly bizarre track to me in reverse. A weird combination of corners that look like you can carry speed through but you can't, and corners you think you have to really slow for, but can fly through.

Going to take me a while to get the hang of this one. I'm well off the pace, although I think my current "setup" is hampering me, the combination of a PS4 controller and using a big ole TV instead of a monitor is wreaking havoc with my brain. My senses and muscle memory are all out of wack.

I saw you in a couple of races this week, clean racer as expected with Gtplanet stickers on the car ;)
Will make sure to say hello next time.
I remember seeing you also. I'm glad you think so. I always try to be clean but I was having a hard time my first couple races yesterday keeping the car under control. I know there was at least one guy that didn't think I was clean lol. I didn't have the car balanced when I hit the brakes for the final turn and the car hooked to the right and I took us both into the barrier. when I cought back up to him at the final corner again, I accidentally gave him a slight bump from behind as he braked even earlier than I anticipated. it was essentially no harm done and I gave a double toot to signal I was sorry. he blasted me so hard on the final turn that next lap it was insane, I don't think Ive ever been hit so hard in this game tbh. it was actually pretty funny.

I'll try to remember to say hello if I see you again. it's always nice to see gtplanet members on the track

I'm getting better at going a gear lower than "I should" to rotate and then upshift for acceleration, it's just getting better at executing it lol.

when it comes to down shifting it depends on the car, some benefit quite a bit from engine braking or down shifting early. while others will become really unsettled or even worse, I assume because of gearing or something, I don't know stuff like that. lol

in the cars where I need to use tcs I try to use it to improve my throttle control. if you can manage to keep the system to only activating minimally or just to save you when you forget to do a small lift over a bump or something mid turn, it shouldn't cost you much time. in the cars that I need to use tcs I can still hit the spot I expect on my friends list. just my 2 cents.....

No. But, I've been setting quali times feeling like I just nailed sector 1 only to unhide the ghost to see it's three car lengths ahead. Four letter words and a restart usually follow.

I hate when that happens! Of course, the opposite happens sometimes too, which is an awesome feeling. Unless you notice it too early and let the pressure get to you.

--------------------

Ended the day with 2 wins, and a P2. Up and down at first, but then it went pretty smooth. Got my eye on DR A, but I have to get my SR down too:

I love the B race but for the life of me I can not get below 1:53.3
I have tried almost every Gr3 car and I have them all.
I'll have good times going into the turns and lose every bit of it
coming out.

Must be just one of those weeks!

Oh man, I take a day off and now I have a mountain to climb again?!

By the way, did anyone notice that this week is the “slow” BoP? I’m not sure there’s much of a difference between the other two, but it adds to my belief that they’re collecting data for a major BoP update.

2 races today. In a B/S race i got punted off the track 4 times. Breakchecked 3 times. Is there a way to avoid players?
Well yes, you can play offline. The AI is even dumber though. Breakchecking, following their line even if you're there and numerous other things... unfortunately.

Yeah that ofcourse. 😂 But passning today in Daily C was a big no no. Was more of a pinballgame when you went alongside someone than it was a racinggame. I mean if someone wants to crash out others than there is games for that aswell. Back to timetrialling for me. 😂

This was in a B/S only race. It was like this every pass. Dont think this is clean racing. Im in the GTR.

Have I been unlucky here or is this normal for Daily B?

So jumped into Daily B for the first time in the R8, and first race wasn’t too bad. A few ahead fighting and taking each other out, and then a mistake by me caused my own issue, but that race was fairly cleanish.

Race 2 similar thing, ut this time I was the punter. Apologies in lobby and also waiting for them on track but I totally destroyed there race from P5. Totally missed my brake point which sent them into the barriers and they get 3 seconds worth of penalties and I get 0 seconds. Still not sure how that penalty system works. After that i was at the back and the cars around me were punting people off, one car even tried to punt me for no reason but missed.

Race 3 I got stuck in a lower SR lobby and wow it was just pure filthy. Car ahead divebombed the same car twice in consecutive corners and the final dive caused a crash which collected me. Then for the rest of the race i had one driver just trying to send it at every corner and then they finally snapped and just punted me off so and they carried on.

I do believe most of the dirty racing has come from people not knowing track and struggling with it (myself included), but I just don’t understand this whole I must win at every corner attitude from some? If I can’t pass the car ahead it either means 1. I’m not quick enough or 2. the car ahead is defending really well and I need to better/smarter at trying to overtake, not just punting someone/divebomb/push to pass because your frustrated at been stuck in P16.
Some of the best racing I’ve ever had is when I’ve been in a clean hard fight even if it for P15. Something so much more exciting and enjoyable in racing bumper to bumper with another car (fairly) then just trying to cheat your way up the field.

Don't know how to embed a Tweet, but @Nenkai posted the next weeks races. Click

🇦 - Monza / McLaren P1 GTR '16 BoP (6 Laps, 1x Tyre/Fuel, RH)
🇧 - Road Atlanta / Gr.4 (6 Laps, 1x Tyre/Fuel, RH)
🇨 - Nurburgring GP / Gr.3 (10 Laps, 7x Tyre, 3x Fuel, RH + RM & RH + RM mandatory)

Going to be an awesome week!
They sound like brilliant fun - I need practice at Road Atlanta and the other two are some of my favourite tracks.
I've not raced at all online this week, been grinding since splashing out on a Gr2 McLaren F1 😎😎😎
