Not all assists are equal though. If he turned TC off and used cars that don't need it he'd gain a serious amount of time. ASM is also REALLY awkward, the car becomes very unpredictable if it has a lot of downforce, i get it on sketchy road cars but group 3 or 4 doesn't need it. Try using just ABS and weak counter steer.

I have a confession to make. I've cheated on my Alfa. I got tired of people always catching back up to me after I out-drove them on other parts of the track (Daily Race B), so I decided to put some effort into the WRX. And on the second or third time I actually made it around the track without crashing, I beat my previous high QT, and am now in the 1:24's, albeit just by a nose at 1:24.945.

And this wasn't even close to a decent run, or at least it didn't feel that way since the WRX feels slow even if it isn't. So I could be wrong about that. So, sorry my friend Alfa, but Scooby is now this man's best friend. (I haven't raced with it yet, so I reserve the right to change my mind.)
But, the one thing I like is that for AWD or FF cars in GR4 I never need ASM or TSC. In fact I can feel the bogging down with TSC 1. I am guessing that in the 155 having any assists on (other than default ABS) is just a mental thing, as you say. As for the sliding, it is helpful in a couple of spots to kick out the ass end a little if we want to on Sardegna B.
I am going to mess around with the WRX and see what works for me and what doesn't.
One thing I need to do is try the 155 in race B QT again. It is a dream to drive but I can't get close to my WRX QT. The WRX feels like a tank and intuitively I feel my laps in the 155 are quicker, but in the end that heavy old WRX is faster..
Yes, the WRX does feel like a tank. I think it may have to do with the lackluster engine sound.
I think I have a 25:xxx currently. Started the day with a 27:8xx and then got on a hot lap where everything kinda clicked. Probs have a 24 in me, don't think I have a 23
Yeah, a 23 would be pretty sweet, but probably out of my reach too.
be prepared to see PD ban it from sport mode in the future, like they did in GTS
Eek! There's so many things they could do to improve sport mode, I'd hate to see them choose that. But hey, it's only a game.
I have seen elitist attitudes towards assists, views, and controller choices all around the internet literally for decades.
Sure enough. Fortunately I haven't really seen it on this forum.
and usually facing the wrong way of the track sooner or later. mostly sooner.
LOL! I totally get that!
Try using just ABS and weak counter steer.
I'll take that under advisement. Thanks!

I had indeed noticed just now when I saw the current times at race B that you cheated on the lovely, pure, sweet and innocent little Alfa with that WRX, and even worse, you are faster then me now!
It is now my lifegoal to punish your betrayal of the Alfa and better your fastest time. starting tomorrow that is....

(And i will probably fail:grumpy:)

Since day one I started playing GT7 I never bothered trying any of the assits because I've always played every racing game without any. I always drive with MT, TSC 0, no visual aids or assits. It's just a personal preference I've grown into and have absolutely nothing against people using assits. If it makes you faster and/or safer driver, I say go for it.

My current Sardegna QT (with zero assists) is 1:23,8xx (WRX) which put me comfortably top 100 on global leaderboards. I wanted to try how fast I could go with ASM and strong countersteer because I've never tried these assits before. Turned 1:23,8xx again w/ opt. 1:23,6xx. Was pretty surprised by the results as I always thought these assists would make me much slower.

Now I'm wondering if I could have golded that painful NSX Nordschleife TT with the help of these two assits..

Set a new q time with the Vantage last night in the daily race C. Not the prettiest lap, but absolutely nailed the COD. I'm not flat out through there yet, but this is the closest I've come. That V12 just sticks through the chicane. I'll be using this one again at some point tonight.

Man it feels like you have so much more time. Exit turn 2/3 you left a solid 3 tenths, exit just before end of sector 2 you left another couple tenths..... you have a 35 in you.

Credit to you man, you drive some absolute junk in competitive rooms.

I completely agree, I spun the tires to much out of the first set of corners and then missed every braking point I had thru the middle sector. Wasn't expecting much out of it at all.

Appreciate it, honestly we've just had some good tracks where you don't have to be in the Meta to be competitive. The next time it goes Monza with the GR.3 cars I'm screwed. lol. But I love choosing something no one else will and seeing how it stacks up. And don't get me wrong there's plenty of times where I choose something and then get 2 laps in to practice and am way off the pace. I wanted to race the skyline so bad last week and I made the mistake of using it 1 time and was obliterated.

Saw you had some terrible luck last night. You might try the Genesis, got a 3rd with it last night and a 136.7 in the race. It wants to wheel spin so bad out of the corners, but man does it have a set of brakes on it.

That doesn't surprise me, actually. I always figured the assists mostly only come into play when you drive in some sort of non-ideal way. Too quick on the throttle, to fast around a corner, that sort of thing. Since you're obviously a very good driver, I'm thinking you rarely do any of the bad things that require the assists.

That's my guess, anyway. And it's fascinating to see it played out for real. Thanks for trying it, and posting about it!

Is that the case? I have not looked at those as I thought they were invite only and only occur sporadically.
You should try the World Series events. I avoided them for the past year because I didn’t understand what they were, but I did the Manufacturers Series exhibition the last few weeks and enjoyed it. The pairing is much tighter, and there is a qualification phase before each race which presents a whole different approach.

Last month I just didn't feel I had any skill to compete at that level being a complete noob at the time with a D rating. But now I'm a B and that tomorrow I get my load-cell brake upgrade, I feel good enough to be competitive (at least at the low B level). I will check these out next time they reappear.

it doesnt matter what your rating is, you will be matched with players of similar skill/speed..

Umm...

Matchmaking is by SR, primarily. After that it's by DR. Neither "speed" nor whatever "skill" is (absent DR) comes into it. In GTWS players are even bracketed by their DR. So yeah, it matters what your rating is.

I had a touch of bad luck where two guys in front tangled but otherwise i was just awful. Tbh I am driving on the absolute ragged edge just to keep up mid pack in a top split, I've no margin for error.

i meant if he was a D rated driver, he will be matched with similar skilled D-C drivers..
he mentioned he wasnt 'competitive' until he was a B driver.. wouldnt he be just as competitive as a B driver in a lobby with other B drivers as he would being a D driver in a lobby full of other D drivers..?

Started on pole twice led six laps both times and got passed on lap 7 both times. The guy behind was consistent and passed me clean. Can't be to mad, but it stings.

I would usually pull a. 700 lead most of the lap but he would always suck back in down the main staright.

I went back and ran some more laps with the wrx but I'm 1.5secs off the alfa. I can't seem to brake and enter corners smoothly with it.

No.

If you are DR B ability but rated as DR D currently - through a rating reset, or starting a new account, or deliberately tanking your rating - you'll slap the crap out of most DR D-level lobbies. Odds are there'll be one or two other people who should be higher rated but currently aren't, but everyone else will be genuinely at that level and 5% or more off the pace of a DR B ability driver. You'll be regularly on the podium and scoring wins until your rating rises high enough to match you regularly with people of a similar ability.

so as a D rated driver, with a D rating ability.. who would he be matched against..?
B drivers? or D-C drivers..?

3 races for me at Sardenga this evening. I did not improve my time with my practice session, but I know I can improve. All 3 races were in B rank lobbies and it makes a world of difference when I can race others with my skill level and have fun doing it.

Race 1 has me in P6 to start and I am joined by @CmdrParabolus which was a nice surprise as this is the fist time I've seen them in a lobby. And the race was clean the entire way through. Some minor contact, but nothing to be angry with. Just some nice hard racing. I did go off track on the last lap as I pushed a bit too hard. I might have caused a bit of a mess after that one. I finish P4 and am pleased with my result.

Race 2 is more of the same and I start P4 this time. I do get into the back of P3 on the opening lap and I let them go. After a nice battle with an Alfa driver that I had a quick battle in the previous race, I finish P5. I apologize to the driver I hit and exchange pleasantries with the Alfa driver.

Race 3 is the same as the first 2 with me in P5 this time. Nice and clean and some great driving from everyone around me. I have another battle with a different Alfa driver and finish P5 with a clean race bonus.

Absolutely fantastic stuff tonight. Some of the best racing I've had in a while. It felt like a professional race out there with most everyone backing off when needed and giving space when needed. Why can't every week be like this? The Mustang would not have stood a chance tonight. It's not as nimble as the WRX and Alfa on the track and I think switching cars was the correct choice. I'll try and lower my qualifying time and see where the rest of the week goes.

B drivers? or D-C drivers..?
It goes by SR first, as I said, but it really rather depends.

If you have an SR of S, and you're right at the top - 99/99 - you'll be matched with other drivers in descending DR order. If you have an SR of E and you're right at the bottom - 1/99 - you'll be matched with every other D/E driver at the bottom of the barrel and anyone else unlucky enough to be online at that time if there's not enough room in the higher-SR lobbies.

And the number of people online is significant too. Bear in mind you're matched with everyone online in your region, entering that specific race at that specific time, on the console that you're using - there's no region mixing (you can get into another region's races if you have an account registered in that region) and there's no platform mixing, with PS4 and PS5 playerbases segregated.

If there's only 12 people online entering that race at that time in your region on your console, you'd be matched with all the others regardless of DR, whether they're S/A+ or D. If there's several thousand, it's more likely you'll be matched with people of similar DR, at C and D.

I don't have good numbers to give a reasonable estimate, but I'd guess there's no more than a few hundred possible players you can be matched with at any one time; more in EMEA than ASOC or NCSA.

I know I'm in the minority here but very few people talks about Race A so here I go. Great combo again this week, I had great races starting first but falling back to last voluntarily before T1. At any time but past 6PM, the skill gap is immense so to have a bit of a challenge I try to start last. My quali time is in the 1:44 and second place is 1:46-1:47... I wish I would see more A and A+ drivers in Race A but it seems to be, by far, the less popular race amongst faster drivers which is a shame as I prefer street cars to the same meta GR4 and GR3 cars every single week. Unfortunately, the skill level can sometimes be too low to have a proper race without resorting to sandbagging or starting last.

But, tonight, I had a couple of awesome races with good clean action on track with TaInz167. I think his quali time is in the top 30 (North america), I wanted to send him a friend request and a message but his privacy settings make that impossible unfortunately. I don't know if he lurks around here but I wanted to recruit him for my league (SNAIL Racing, we are actively recruiting if anyone is interested). With that said, I encounter some truely horrible racecraft in race A, but TaInz167 if you are on here, great racecraft and fast pace it was pleasure to race against you.

Ever have pole position, lead the whole race, and botch the last turn and lose by less than 1/10th of a second?

This guy did!
feel sorry for you. And yes, I have once botched a winning race in the final corner and it still hurts a bit. Till that horrible moment it was probable my best race ever, it was a race A with the Silvia in GTS at theTokyo track and I messed up the final chicane in the last lap while leading after an awesome fight with a Croatian fellow. Worse was that I bounced back on track and ruined his race too, and a fellow that was a distant third got a very lucky and unexpecting win.

Pretty sure almost everyone here has had such a horrible experience, you are not alone!

Another good night of racing for me. I fully embraced the meta in Race B,
Had 3 straight P2 finishes and should have stopped there. But oh no had to
go for one more and I get stuck in a split lobby with some A+ A drivers.
Was not too bad as I started P7 and had moved up to P6 starting the 2nd
lap but got bumped into the gravel coming out of the sharp turn going up
hill. Finished P14.

Race C started P2 and was looking good until COD and fell back to P14.
Decided to run the hards until beginning of lap 8 and finished P8.

Overall it was a good night.

I thought the chicane was scary enough on its own... 💩

Look no further than seven posts above yours. 🍻
