Been a busy week for me so I've barely run a dozen or so laps for race C to try and get comfy with the combo, which is not enough for me in gr3 cars lol

Hopefully home a bit early today, and it's friday. So i can hopefully hit the track hard later this afternoon and tomorrow.
For that one consistency (and surviving lap 1) seems to be more important than outright speed. The pack usually gets very stretched out, plus the 2 opposing strategies, so just banging in solid laps leads to a decent result.

I could argue the same point for B this week, my quali time isn't amazing, putting me in the mid pack for the most part (depends on the time of day though). But I'm making good progress in ever race, generally picking up a handful of positions because I pick battles at the right time and I can manage the dirty air reasonably well. The GR2 cars are much the same as the F1 cars last week in that people get a little over confident with the kind of moves you can manage with them, leading to outbraking, running wide, etc.

There's no point in forcing a move that isn't on, making both of us lose time, regardless of the speed and downforce these cars have. Last night in one of my races, either the leader or the guy in second made a mistake, I was in 4th and they recovered in front of me while ghosted but I knew there was no point in me fighting him as they were clearly faster. So I tucked in behind, stuck with them as best I could but eventually they pulled away, finishing about 3 seconds ahead of me.

This is online racing in a nutshell though. I had a guy last night get sort of little run on me, by the entry to Eau Rouge he was alongside my rear wheels at best and still decided it was wise to try and go through two wide. Like really you muppet? We inevitably clashed and he ended up in the realm. If he lifted a touch he'd have eaten me alive along kemmel for the easiest pass ever.

Is Daily A some sort of joke? April Fools?

I like Dragon Trail Seaside Reverse... the chicken of death is much easier to take going counter-clockwise. That being said, I'm not exactly enthused we're back at D.T. regardless.
I do believe “chicken of death” is my new favorite phrase for this track!

It reminds me a bit of . . .

Had an eventful half a race c last night that took me from SR S to B. Got caught behind an NSX that was bottling it in the last sector on lap 1 and then pooped my pants at the end of the main straight lap 2. I just lost track of how far up the hill we had already gone and trying to leave room. Then I manage to find the nsx again on lap 7 and quit after that. Let me know what you guys think, guessing the wall contacts didn't help things along with collecting a few cars at the hairpin.

Raced again after and was put in the same lobby more or less (no nsx this time) and managed a P2 from 6th!

Ah, that was so nice of you to help get that guy back on the track! You even sacrificed yourself to do it! I sure hope he appreciated it.
Yeah, I know. If he'd only had the decency to have stayed on track and not need my assistance, I could have just slotted in behind and just lost the one spot.. But, you know, always willing to help others out. :D

I want to love Race C, I really do. I’ve had good lobbies with mostly high A and A+ cars, which is a nice treat. But I only go backwards!!!! I’m too far behind to learn anything g valuable!

So seriously: how does one take the hairpin without out it simply being random luck of the draw? I can’t find it! I either slow too soon and take it too much inside and hot that weird camber, or brake late and inside and spin out on the camber, or maybe I slow down enough to take a middle line but then the car (ANY car) oversteers off the other side and I get a weird track limit penalty that I can’t quite locate. I NEED HELP!!!!

For me, it just comes down to feeling. But I guess that falls a lot under luck too. I end up hitting that turn maybe perfect 40-50% spin 10-20% and the rest is just poor exit. This doesn't include when I don't turn in quick enough on the previous corner and just completely bork things 😅

That’s a good point too! I’m rather inconsistent there on the approach as well because I can’t find the right line for the hairpin.

So, this just happened. Watch full-screen, and imagine you're focusing hard on the last chicane in the race (19 seconds):

Better that ghost that this one!

I’ll never not say no to a class that can take Eau Rouge flat
Indeed. I got lured into a false sense of security. Last night I went and did the Spa circuit experience as I'd not done it yet, and in the 911RSR I kept on loosing it at Eau Rouge. What do you mean I can't take that flat out! :D I managed to adjust once I learned to lift slightly and after that it was easy to gold everything. Still Gr.2 is more fun! Gr.3 feels slow now...

I will forever call it the chicken of death.

You don't take the bus stop flat out? What are you chicken? :D 🐔

I find the most consistent way for me to take the hairpin is a wide deep entry and hard cut back, only really works when you have some space behind as most take the natural line to the corner apex where as my preferred method has you apexing deep in the braking zone and before the actual corner apex. This way when done right you have pretty much rotated the car before the actual apex and should be rolling into the power nicely by the time you actually get to it, you cover more distance this way but I feel you get a better exit on average and better speed down the tunnel, I set consistent low 32s in sector 1 with this method which is comparable with the traditional line also but you have a better run down the tunnel with the wide early apex method. The merc AMG is very compliant on acceleration and stable for this combo but I know it's front end doesn't suit everyone.

Pretty sure you were in the lobby I was in last night from my earlier post. Things happen fast in top lobbies, this combo is all about surving those first few laps without major incidents and capitalizing on the misfortunes of others, doesn't always workout that way though.

I feel this describes how I take it as well, also low 32s there. It feels like I'm in slow-motion, roooll through the apex, eeeeease on throttle. I think slow is fast here.

There's so many lines though there that will produce a similar sector time, just about finding one that works consistently for your style. Wish some cars were more confidence inspiring through there as most have said it feels like luck half the time.

Off topic but just curious.

I have noticed that when some of the embedded you tube videos end there are usually links to other videos.

Does anyone know how these apparently random links are selected?

Oh,
I just tried some time trial laps for next week's Sambabus race.
It wasn't very fun.
Hopefully, there is some good weather next week, so I can go fishing instead.

Spilled my tea. Nearly drowned.
Funniest GIF ever.

Unless the YouTuber embeds an end screen which tends to promote their preferred videos, YouTube will presents "what it thinks best" for the viewer based on their watch history/engagement. This may be links to the same YouTuber or related videos or something trending that is watched by people that also watch similar content to you.

On my Mountain Bike channel I put an end screen in to control what is presented. On my Normsk channel, where I'm not trying to drive subs and watch time (but hey 8 people decided to subscribe to me - fools! :D ) I don't bother so YT presents the generic but related content.

Thanks for the reply.

It was one of your videos that piqued my curiosity. At the end, there were several videos relating to the critiquing of poetry. Poetry appreciation is not my forte.

It made me wonder if you taught English/Literature or something similar.

No but I'm bilingual. I speak both English and American. Sometimes at the same time! :D

Poetry is a weird suggestion. What have you been browsing?

Wait, a triple-negative?! This is next level posting!!!!!! 🔥

Give me a shout out when you see me. I can never remember who I know or don’t know until we interact a few times.

Thanks to both of you. That slow feeling is what’s getting me in trouble: I keep trying to hurry through it and I guess it’s compromising my line.

The crazy thing for me on an MR car like the 911, it’ll oversteer like crazy in this track at any speed, especially at low speed, but as soon as you want it to at the hairpin it oversteers right off the track. Or else it spins out. There’s not much in between when you’re trying to work the natural rotation of those cars. It’s maddening! 😡
