It's been an interesting day for me, to say the least... Firstly, thanks to @Nebuc72 for some helpful tips and finally sorting out my Fanatec wheel settings, I shaved 0.4s off my Interlagos qualy time and I'm now down to a 1:38:1 :)

Feeling optimistic, I then hopped into the Time Trial and after about 10 - 12 laps, I found myself in the top 1.70% and feeling happy!

I still didn't trust the driving on Race B so I hopped into 2nd account and started P5. And wow, was it weird. This one driver in P3 just would not let anyone through, especially me! He makes a mistake and as I try to pass on the inside, he pretends I'm not there and just turns into me!

Not once or twice lol. Or he forces you into the grass. Thankfully, Karma stepped in and he KO'd himself whilst again, pretending I am not there haha. Finished in P3 and after the race, quite a few players told me he has been doing that all day, so didn't feel bad at all.

I say most, because there was this one incident.
A dude tried to take me out on the last lap. I watched the replay of the 4 previous laps, and I didn't do anything to him.

I decided to make the incident into a short film with the PS5 ShareFactory ap. It's fun, but it takes a while to figure out the editing.

In a nutshell, I got knocked off the track. My car slid for a bit, then regained grip, sending me into the path of the rammer. The second time we make contact, he goes off track and gets a penalty. He must have thought I meant to hit him, because he went ape ****.
I included an in-car view to show that I turned away from his car, not towards it.

I had some tings to say to him after the race, but he exited immediately.
I have seen him before. Surely, I'll see him again.

It seems to me that the contact penalties at Interlagos are much better than they used to be. I got tagged 3 seconds for pushing someone - and it was reasonable. I've seen others get penalties also for things I thought they deserved. I mean, it's not perfect, but I think they're on the right track (because that joke can't be used enough).

So here's hoping the trend continues. When I served my 3 second penalty, I went from 7th to 12th, which sucks, but the answer to that is the same as the old Henny Youngman joke: "Doctor! It hurts when I do this!" "Then don't do that."

EDIT: Check this out:

A Citroen near the top! And he stayed there!

Don't know how he did it. That car's more squirrelly then my first wife!

I kind of agree but it still hurts when I got pushed into a wall and got a 3 second penalty or when I tapped someone who braked earlier than I expected and I got a 1.5 second penalty for hitting them, even though they stayed on track...

I agree it looks like it improved but still not perfect.

I made the mistake of trying to have an enjoyable (or at least non-aneurysm-inducing) race in a B/A lobby, and got PIT'd exiting Mullenbach. **** Sport Mode, why did I expect it to be anything more than knockoff iRacing.

Come off it mate. No need to knock the entire service because you're having a strop about 1 bad race.

It's not like iRacing is any better. I filmed this literally last night.

Why do I keep getting a 1 minute time penalty at the end of the Gr.3 race at Nurburgring? Didn't cut corners or anything like that!
I'm not 100% sure as haven't raced it, but it may have a mandatory pit stop you're missing?
We write an article every week which fully explains all of the rules and requirements for the races. Here's this week's:

And here's Race C:

Tire strategy will be part of the deal this week, as you have two tire grades available and both are mandatory. That means you’ll need to use a full set of each tire — Racing Hard and Racing Medium — for at least one lap during the race, or you’ll earn a post-race penalty of a minute added to your race time.

Looked like Karma to me, he tried to nudge you in to a spin a couple of times down the straight, then was only ever going to push you off coming out of the chicane. Just typical idiot who expects to be able to take the corner how he wants, other cars be damned.

Had similar last night. Was constantly on the bumper of the car in front of me for 2 laps. He would make mistake after mistake and I'd get on a line to get past him and he'd swerve across to block me, costing us both a stack of time. Finally, he got a bit squirrelly coming out of the left hander on to the straight and was on the inside. I took the corner well and got alongside him on the outside before he could block me again. However I then received 3 big bumps from him for daring to get alongside him. Thankfully on the 3rd one, I'd lost a little bit of speed and he'd got a bit in front, so when he swerved across in to me, I just held the wheel and he ended up spinning himself across the front of me and slamming in to the wall.

I had a good chuckle and then braced myself for the inevitable penalty, but it never came!!

That's it for my daily races this week as I've a road trip coming up and honestly that is a good thing. Race B has been murdering me this week. I keep at it as historically I have done well there in my class and I actually quite like it. However, in many races I've been in top 5 positions only to be hit or punted out. In one case I was in third and I think there was contact from behind me as next I was heading for the wall prior to turn 4. When I recovered from that, now in 13 coming out of turn 13, P14 decides to push my rear and I spin out into the wall again putting me last. Ugh. That was the culmination of several bad races and a run the night before that put me on the brink of relegation back to the DR C league.

Resigned to the inevitable drop in DR I entered one more and QT'd in 3rd! P2 goes off on T1 and I take P2. After that I had no challenge but was unable to catch P1 so I finished in P2! See, when no one hits me I can do okay!

Came to the conclusion that when it is all B/S the racing can be good. The bad races are when I'm in lobbies of mixed SR down to B (one of which included a D). Some of those drivers really suck.

I did one more race, starting Q8 and finished in P5. Had a very competitive race with P6. It was a good one and restored my faith in other drivers out there.

Note sure why but I was completely unable to improve my QT. Currently I am at 1:39.0 something but I am beginning to see more and more players improving into the 1:38s. For whatever magic I found that gave me the 1:39 I lost, as my best for the night was .2s slower and a lot of the time I was hovering around 1:40 mark. How can I forget how to drive so easily?

Was that a screaming goat at the end? 🤣 Great editing btw, could never figure out how to use the PS5 editor 🫣🤣

Not sure I'm with you on this. If penalities are handled better they should be accross all races, and the improvement should be notices just after a montly update.
I have far less races then you, but I'd call yours a small sample set, mine a non-existent one. I guess that you just saw a shirt sequence of flipped coin ending up always with the same face.

What is becoming a familiar post race splash screen (5 wins in a row now), from Race A pole-to-flag.

They have been mostly hollow victories however, with lineups looking like this. A familiar sight for a lot of you, I'm sure.

One takeaway from this sequence is that mentioned by someone else on this thread, that aiming for a sub-9 minutes race is a solid goal.

Can we really not populate a 12 car grid with more than 5 drivers B or above?? Even at lunchtime I would expect to see a couple of A drivers.

Still, better than my 3-race run in an after-work session at 3am yesterday. I ran a couple of races with only 4 drivers, all C & D rated. Where are all the stoners and students?

Looking at their stats afterwards and mostly the average was between 20-30 Sport Mode races, something like 2% done on circuit experiences, although one guy had nearly 300 with only 2 wins. What I found quite interesting was that they all seemed to have owned the game for at least 6 months but their daily output was sporadic, maybe a few dozen kilometres every couple of weeks. I really had this game down as an 'all or nothing' affair but I guess some people do just dip in and out.

I’d wager its the upcoming movie release.

Also..personally.. Dr B seems to be a dumpster fire of jag offs who have spent time perfecting how to be as dirty as they can, without invoking the penalty system.

Ps: part of me blames the offline mode. The whole single player concept of starting from the back and banging your way quickly through the pack(to make people feel cool?) translates to some argy bargy bullspit when they get online. I actually don’t play single player because i don’t want to develop bad habits.

I think you just described me :) Been racing 6 months (since getting a PS5 for Christmas). Around 252 races with only 4 victories...

While a lot of commenters on this forum are hardcore racers that have been racing and honing their craft for many years, there are probably a lot of people like me that came back into the sport once the PS5 became generally available (last Christmas). While I have always loved GT since OG PS days, I did stop "playing games" over a decade ago and I'm only back in it now as it looks so good and feels much more realistic. My guess is that the bulk of racers are high C and low/mid Bs being part timers that like to jump in occasionally (especially in a race like A). Meanwhile the hardcore folks probably do one or two A races and then move on as they get no DR pleasure from it.

I’d wager its the upcoming movie release.

I can totally related. When I'm in single player, I become much more dirty and happily barge the AI cars out the way, as well... why not? They will barge me if given the chance. They're not exactly clean racers themselves.

When I'm online though I try my best to avoid contact but recently have been coming to the conclusion I play it too safe which is why I find it difficult to pass slower people - for fear of contact. Meanwhile those that pass me, don't seem to have any qualms about side bumping me in corner. So it tends to breed a "if they do it to me, I do it back to them approach..". I'm not proud of the fact so I will admit that depending on the company around me, my driving can devolve into a rougher nature if warranted. So the "average" driving standard of the cars on track tend to dictate the quality of the race.. Have a race full of SR S and the racing tends to be good. Get some SR A and SR B (or worse) in the mix and it tends to be a slug fest.

Hey, I resent that! Some of us DR B's don't jag off. (just a joke, not a reflection of reality...)

It's something I've wondered about, as I've done 163 races, 57 top 5's, and just 1 win. That was only because I gambled on Inters on the Nordschleife.

Presumably you'd expect 1/16 wins on average, regardless of talent as you're matched against your equals. In most races there's front runners who are clearly faster than me, so to have the same rating I guess they're a lot less consistent than I am, either deliberately to get a lower ranking, or just habitual crashers or quitters.

I think it also depends on the time of day you play. When I play when there are a lot of racers I have a much more equal lobby and so can expect a reasonable chance of a top 8 position. Top 5 will come and go as DR improves it gets harder then as I lose and DR drops it becomes easier; it bobbles around.

Race in weird hours though, like late at night/early morning and I find a very mixed lobby where I'm up against high DR B, As and even A+. In those lobbies I don't stand a chance and I am grateful when I am able to finish top 12. Those are usually about minimizing DR loss though sometimes it not as bad I would expect and here I would expect @Famine to chime in that the DR points also take into account the ratings of the drivers around you. So while placing is important, losing against A and A+ drivers is not so terrible if you were a C or low B ranked driver.

This is the case as per my subjective observation. After having done 370 Sport races and with my kudosprime graph looking like a flat line, I have come to recognize and remember names. Fastest drivers are also usually least consistent and/or dirtiest, which is why they are stuck in mid-B with me. A reason why I think that a lot of victories in the stat are a bad sign (doesn't apply to A+ drivers as I don't really know what the competition is like at A+).

For me, all wins came while climbing up the DR ranks as I got better, and from Race A where wins can sometimes come easily because of non-serious racing. I've 8 wins from 370 Sport races. My average finishing position is 8th.
someone care to summarise for those of us too lazy to click on the vid?
Race A- Alsace Test Course in BMW Z8'01 BOP. 5-8 laps. Sports hard tires. 1-10x tire/fuel (wow, even I could guess the same).
Race B- Catalunya GP no chicane Gr.3. 5 laps. Racing medium tires. 1x tire/fuel.
Race C- Suzuka Gr.2. 10 laps. Racing soft tires. No more info.
